Chapter 200: The Visit of the Night Owls
“This…”
Wit and Robert both wore expressions of shock. They had many speculations, but they never imagined that Dark’s Christmas gift would be two notebooks!
Robert was surprised. “Why would he give us notebooks?”
Wit’s expression darkened. “Perhaps in his eyes, this is exactly what we need.”
Robert shrugged. “He definitely doesn’t know how hard we studied when we were grounded. These notebooks won’t be much use to us.”
Wit opened the arithmetic notebook and said, “This is a photocopy. The original must have been his notes from class, covering everything from the first lesson to the last. It seems like all the arithmetic notes for the entire semester are here.”
But as he flipped through it, he suddenly went silent!
Robert asked in confusion, “What’s wrong, Wit?”
Wit replied, “I can’t understand it.”
Robert: “What?”
Wit: “I can’t understand it! This is supposed to be first-semester content, yet I can’t comprehend it??”
“That can’t be…”
Robert quickly flipped through his potions notebook.
At first, it was normal, just copied lecture notes.
But later, there were many advanced concepts mixed in!
From these notes, one could clearly sense Dark’s rapid improvement in potion-making skills.
If they could thoroughly study this notebook, they would surely benefit greatly!
“Wit,” Robert hesitated as he looked at him. “Although it’s impressive, aren’t these things we’ll learn in the second semester?”
Wit thought for a moment and nodded. “Probably.”
If it exceeded a year’s worth of content, that would be too much.
Robert let out a sigh of relief. “Then we just need to focus on our classes next semester. Asking me to learn from a single notebook is beyond me.”
Wit: “Same here. Plus, I have something to do tomorrow.”
Robert: “What is it?”
Wit: “Re-entering the secret passage!”
…
Noble Academy Tower.
Dark was somewhat interested in reading “Alibaba’s Dragon-Slaying Fourteen Techniques.”
After receiving this gift, he thought about it and went to Traveler’s Street to photocopy two notebooks to give to Wit and Robert.
Gift-giving should always be tailored to the recipient’s needs.
As for how Wit and Robert would handle their gifts, that was none of his concern.
By now, with the first-year students from the Noble Academy returning from Traveler’s Street one by one, he had received a large number of Christmas gifts.
Though they were mostly chocolates, candies, and cookies, the sheer volume of gifts from an entire class was staggering.
So much so that he was already considering calling Diana to help manage them.
Reflecting on it carefully:
The most useful gifts this Christmas were four in total, in order:
① Dragon’s Inverted Scale;
② Magic Conducting Ring;
③ Blessing of Wind;
④ Ancient Gold Coin;
Judging by quality, it could only be described as “a bountiful harvest.”
Yet, Dark felt like he had missed something.
He tapped the book, slightly distracted.
This book, “Alibaba’s Dragon-Slaying Fourteen Techniques,” told the story of a poor woodcutter named Alibaba from a civilization of the previous century who accidentally entered a goblin king’s maze while chopping wood.
He endured great hardships, escaped the maze, and obtained the goblin king’s treasure.
Fourteen evil dragons, coveting the goblin king’s treasure, came upon hearing the news. Alibaba, to protect the city threatened by the dragons, used the goblin king’s treasure to kill the dragons in fourteen different ways!
The story was straightforward and simple in structure, yet vividly narrated, providing detailed descriptions of the cultural background and social environment of the time.
Not only was it a popular heroic tale, but it also allowed readers to immerse themselves in the world of the book, experiencing the rise and fall of the ancient kingdom.
Through its entertaining surface, one could learn much from its inner essence.
Dark finished the first chapter, closed his eyes to savor it.
Two minutes later, he opened his eyes, ready to continue with the second chapter.
But just as he turned to the table of contents for the second chapter, a faint light flew in through the half-open window for ventilation.
Dark lowered his guard after a glance.
It was a small elemental resembling a griffin, one of Principal Altair’s main elementals.
During the sorting ceremony, this elemental had delivered the selection card to him, leaving a deep impression.
“What’s the matter?”
Dark’s tone was gentle.
The griffin elemental circled the room briefly, seemingly checking for any inappropriate items.
Once satisfied, it flew back to Dark and began to glow and transform.
As the glowing body extended, a breathtaking figure emerged.
Principal Altair appeared before Dark.
Even without makeup, she was still beautiful.
“Happy Christmas, Demon.” Principal Altair spoke through her temporary form.
Dark finally realized what he had overlooked.
He shrugged and said, “A belated greeting, Principal. Well, happy Christmas.”
Principal Altair pushed her silver hair behind her ear, revealing a hint of fatigue. “Sorry, I’ve been very busy lately.”
So you weren’t really yourself last night?
Cynthia Saint Altair, you really know how to play!
Dark suddenly noticed something, feeling like he had a bone stuck in his throat that needed to be voiced.
Ignoring his reaction, Principal Altair asked, “Have you found the treasure left by Alvaraite?”
Dark shook his head. “I plan to look for it tomorrow. It will pass the time.”
Altair: “That makes sense.”
Dark: “How about you just tell me what the treasure is, satisfying my longing for my mother?”
—Knowing it would mean not having to go.
But Altair shook her head. “I don’t have a penchant for prying into secrets. Whether it’s Alvaraite or Bret, their treasures are meant for students who are destined to find them.
Giving you the treasure map is already presumptuous. As for the treasure’s secret, you’ll have to find and solve it yourself.”
Solve?
Dark caught another key word.
Since Principal Altair couldn’t provide any information about the treasure, he hoped she would send whatever she needed to send quickly and then say goodbye!
But Principal Altair seemed to want to treat tonight as a rare leisure time amidst her busy schedule, chatting with him about various topics.
Like an elderly person living alone, suddenly finding a child who wandered into the backyard and wouldn’t stop talking.
With a heart of respecting the elderly and cherishing the young, Dark accompanied her until ten o’clock at night.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Just as Dark wondered who would visit so late, he saw Principal Altair transform back into the griffin elemental and fly to the top of the cabinet to hide.
“Caught in the act?”
Dark’s lips twitched, but he went to open the door anyway.
Standing outside were the gifts.
