Chapter 202: Medicine
……
In the midst of the scene, the surrounding crowd buzzed with discussions, and Kapak, after witnessing what unfolded before him, was momentarily stunned. Then, amidst the commotion, joy surged within him.
“It’s real! That medicine is actually effective! Those medicines can cure the red stripe disease!”
Kapak thought to himself, feeling immensely grateful at that moment that he could understand the invasive script and comprehend the use of the medicine.
“Praise Akka, for the knowledge you have bestowed upon me, enabling me to help others in the tribe; this is truly wonderful.”
Kapak smiled to himself, realizing then how crucial knowledge was as a treasure. He had more than one vial of the invaders’ medicine in his possession. If the others were also effective, he would be able to assist the tribe even further and rid them of more ailments.
Not just medicine! If he could proficiently use other items from the invaders or even manufacture their goods, it would lift the tribe out of backwardness, relieving hunger and sickness.
“The reason the invaders can slaughter our people is that they possess more advanced weapons, medicines, and tools. If we could also have these, utilize them, then we could withstand them to some extent.”
However, all of this required knowledge! More knowledge! At this moment, Kapak realized that merely learning the language was not enough; if he wanted to better assist the tribe, he needed more knowledge regarding the advanced technologies of the invaders.
And this knowledge could be provided by a spirit named Akasha, as long as he could offer equally precious knowledge in return!
At this thought, Kapak paused briefly. He could not think of how he could find sufficiently precious knowledge to offer Akasha.
After celebrating the safety of Shangya with the joyous crowd, Kapak returned home. On the way, he remained deep in thought.
“It seems I need to find an opportunity to inquire with the Shaman Lord whether our tribe has any hidden precious knowledge.”
……
In the library of King Campus, in a secluded corner, Dorothy, who had just exchanged for new knowledge, wore a deep look of confusion on her face.
“Time-Slowing Dragon Roar? Within a ten-meter radius, thirty percent time slow, self-time unchanged, lasting for five seconds, seems okay, but… why did I only get one segment? Previously, I exchanged three segments of ‘Unyielding Strength’ using Prit Language, yet this time I only got one segment of Time-Slowing in complete Spiritual Seal Language?”
Dorothy thought in bewilderment. She used an entire language, only to exchange for one segment of Dragon Roar. This was completely different from before, and this Time-Slowing indeed had a range limitation; outside the range, it couldn’t have an effect, which was unlike what she had expected in the game.
With various questions in mind, Dorothy decided to ask the system, as it generally answered questions regarding its own functions.
“Hey, system, why did I only get one segment of the Time-Slowing Dragon Roar this time using Spiritual Seal Language, while I got three segments of Unyielding Strength using Prit Language before? And this Time-Slowing has a range?”
Soon, the system responded to Dorothy’s queries.
“Response: Time-Slowing involves the time axis and is considered a superior Dragon Roar, requiring more linguistic knowledge to exchange fully. The reason Time-Slowing has a range limitation is due to the different structure of the time axis in this world compared to the Nain world; this Dragon Roar cannot command the entire time axis.
“If you are dissatisfied with the power of the Dragon Roar, after mastering enough Dragon Language characters and largely grasping Nain Dragon Language, you can additionally consume ‘Enlightenment’ spirituality to enhance the power of the Dragon Roar. If you choose to enhance Time-Slowing, it can expand the range of the time slow, but it is recommended not to exceed a radius of five kilometers, as abnormal fluctuations in the time axis may attract the attention of divine existences.”
After the system finished its response, Dorothy sat in her seat deep in thought.
“Time-Slowing Dragon Roar is a superior Dragon Roar… So it’s costly? If each segment had thirty percent, then three segments would total ninety percent, which is almost like stopping time; indeed a bit overpowered… Since the worlds are different, the structure of the time axis is not the same, so it can only slow time within a range and cannot affect the whole world; that makes sense…
“However, an interesting point is that after mastering enough characters, consuming ‘Enlightenment’ can enhance the power of the Dragon Roar. If after advancing enough ‘Enlightenment’ is abundant, then I can use the surplus ‘Enlightenment’ for enhancement—wonder how efficient that would be? But must be cautious not to overextend the range of the Time-Slowing Dragon Roar; otherwise, it might attract the attention of deities…”
Shaking her head, Dorothy stopped thinking about the Dragon Roar and instead pondered the “new pen friend” she had just contacted through the Navigation of the Literary Sea. She was very interested in his information.
“From his voice, he seems to be a young male, mastering a language called Spiritual Seal Language, not a Prit person. This Spiritual Seal Language is clustered like stamps, unlike the alphabetical writing prevalent on the Main Continent; it should be some form of pictographic script.
“That young man knows a few words in Prit Language, and since his language is not the general lettering on the Main Continent, he must be from a Prit overseas colony; he is likely a native of those areas.
“Ha… this script can really travel far, going all the way overseas. I just gave a bit of ‘Enlightenment’; can it travel that far? It feels more likely that my ‘Enlightenment’ landed in some book in Prit and was then taken to the overseas colony by a fleet, where it was acquired by that native.”
“It seems I should check the information later to see which colony the Spiritual Seal Language belongs to; Crown University should have anthropology studies…”
Dorothy thought, the large library of Crown University had all sorts of ordinary books aside from secret transmissions, plentiful enough.
“Perfect! I can read books in the library for a few days. Neve should almost be finished with her Thistle secret transmission as well, then we can start the next step.”
With this thought, Dorothy stood up from her seat, deciding to look for any content about the folklore of colonies in the library.
……
Two days later, at King Campus, in the assembly place of the Secret Knowledge Society.
“Phew…”
Sitting at her spot, Nephnis finished reading the last page of her book and suddenly closed it. After a long breath, she glanced at the book’s cover.
“The Queue of the Insect Queen, Volume Four.”
“Finally finished it all…”
Thinking this in her heart, Nephnis gently closed her eyes and began to silently pray, asking the hidden deity to cleanse the contamination in her mind.
After a while, Nephnis opened her eyes again, and the strange sensation in her spirit had vanished. She had completely read all four volumes of the Thistle writings, and her heart had not been tainted in any way; she was still the same her as before.
“Now, it’s time to notify Miss Dorothy; we can begin the next step…”
Standing up from her spot, Nephnis thought with determination.
