Chapter 21

I got matched with some crazy person in the Arena and got wrecked the entire match.

I would advance and get pushed back, advance and get pushed back, over and over again…

Whenever I tried to deal with the dead characters, I’d get attacked from behind and they’d run away.

I felt like I was about to get a mental breakdown, so I just swore and left.

But it seems like my insult didn’t translate properly.

I’m getting burned out playing this game.

seriously, you guys need to buff Guardians. I don’t want to keep dying like this.

– What is this, 10+ minutes of just getting destroyed lol.

– That back kick is so frustrating to watch.

– How did you not land a single hit? What’s your tier?

What do you mean?

The crazy person tied me with a chain and kept dunking me in the sea until I died.

I thought about just surrendering at first but got curious about how far she would go so I stayed.

Eventually, I died from asphyxiation due to the chain.

The opponent was an Assassin and she’s probably American.

Only Americans make tea by dunking it into hot water, right?

But how do you even pronounce her username?

It doesn’t look like English.

[Comments]

– It looks like some Asian characters to me.

– Their face looks so world-weary; it’s hilarious lol.

– It’s Korean, it says “Gawol”

└What does that mean?

└ I don’t know; only the creator would know.

– Isn’t that the same person who humiliated the Guardian?

[Title: Looking for recommendations to switch class]

I met an Assassin in Shadow Arena while I was playing as a Warrior.

I lost without landing a single hit.

I was so humiliated when I died.

Isn’t this matchup supposed to favor me?

Today I felt the limits of my talent.

I need to consider switching to another class.

Is Inquisitor good?

Recommend me only melee damage dealers; I don’t do cowards or assassin type characters.

[Comments]

– You’re just bad, try practicing more.

└ Wanna fight? Bitch.

└ Boardka123/Boardka

└ Alright, let’s go.

– I’ve been seeing your videos a lot recently.

– What type of execution did you get?

– I lost, sir.

└ I was too harsh.

└ I recognize you as a warrior now.

[Timer 3 will alarm in 04:32:11.]

I kept playing the Arena as much as time allowed.

It seems like the preliminary rounds are wrapping up as the skill levels have definitely increased.

I guess all the casual players have dropped out by now?

Unless you’re serious about the game, it’s impossible to survive at this point.

This phase has only about a day left, and the next one will be the last of the preliminaries.

It seems they’re determined to only keep the very best as the number of eliminations has been overwhelming. They’re going to unlock the spectator feature next… but I guess that doesn’t concern me.

The final phase is going to be some high-level gaming.

Still, I feel like I’m lacking a bit right now.

The opponents I faced today weren’t exactly bad.

They all had their fundamentals down, and they each had some strengths.

However, they were definitely far from professional level.

Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy the matches.

[Would you like to craft 100 Blessed Recovery Potions? Y/N]

[Production ongoing… 16 minutes 39 seconds remaining]

A skill level where I wouldn’t feel guilty stomping on.

A gap where I could get away with all sorts of antics.

These conditions coincided with my unstable mood… and my behavior got a bit too extreme.

“Kehehe…”

Honestly, it was hilarious.

Personally, the moment I hung the Archer from my waist was the most entertaining.

I thought they’d just surrender and leave, but it seems my opponent was curious about my antics as well.

I dunked them in the sea dozens of times, but they didn’t quit until they died.

Fortunately, most of them were foreigners.

Their nationalities didn’t overlap much, so they’ll probably just think they encountered some weird person and move on.

After all, skill is something that grows while you’re getting hit, right?

It was a good experience for them.

Anyway, my physical condition is too poor to play PVP right now.

I feel a bit feverish, with a hot and dizzy head.

I couldn’t have survived against a pro if I met one just now.

Still, my score is safely within a stable range.

Since I’m in this state, I decided to catch up on some lifestyle content.

When you’re sick, you need to take breaks like this.

[Sigma eSports’s Luche has started a broadcast!]

Fortunately, some good news came my way.

As soon as I brought up the broadcast on my screen, I couldn’t help but smirk.

Luche’s broadcasts are always diligent, and that’s good.

While I often aim to become a streamer myself, it doesn’t mean I don’t watch broadcasts.

In fact, I watch quite a lot.

It’s because playing alone can get surprisingly boring.

Since Infinity Black is an RPG, you constantly need to level up or acquire basic resources.

I usually prefer hunting alone, but repetitive hunting isn’t always enjoyable.

When I start craving human contact, I end up tuning in to broadcasts like this.

– How do you think the Arena will go? Hmm, well…

– Winning… it’s obviously my goal. My target is to win, so please look forward to it.

– What about possibility? Hmm, it’s a tough goal, so achieving it will be all the more rewarding, right?

– With the Paladin buffs coming in, I’m quite optimistic.

Luche was smoothly defeating her opponents more than ever since she started broadcasting.

In the early days of the Arena, her match-ups weren’t great, and at the time Paladins were quite weak.

With the recent buffs, she’s been on a winning streak like a bird with wings.

There’s a clear skill gap with every opponent she faces.

Previously, she had to reverse unfavorable match-ups, but now the matches are one-sided.

Luche seemed quite surprised by this level of dominance.

– The guard gauge has definitely become more robust. At this point, maybe I can remove a few defense traits?

– Nerf? Until yesterday, it was like the dark ages.

– Who would you want to face in the group stages of the Main Tournament? Hmm, preferably not my own teammates.

– Ah… rematches. Right. Definitely, I’d want to seize that opportunity.

Luche’s voice dropped slightly.

Last year, Luche and Sigma eSports suffered a bitter defeat against a European pro team in international competition.

It was a complete loss. Without putting up much resistance, they ended the season at the Round of 16.

What made it even more disheartening for domestic league fans was that this was her peak career achievement in last year’s Korean league.

The Korean league of Infinity Black doesn’t perform well on the international stage.

There have been many attempts to analyze the reasons.

The direction the pro teams are taking is wrong, the excessive castle battles are problematic, the assassin line is weak, and the absolute population size itself is insufficient, among others.

I don’t know the real cause, but it’s certain that it hasn’t been resolved.

– Someone said the survivor list for the Arena just came out? Anyway, the top rankings are pretty much set at this point.

– Should we take a quick look? I’m curious about who I’ll face too.

– The organized link is… ah, here it is.

Luche cut off her match.

Since the game’s outcome wouldn’t change no matter how she played and her score wasn’t low enough to worry about elimination,

Continuing the game would only feel like a giant stomping on a bug.

Eventually, the broadcast screen changed.

The familiar site banner belongs to the most famous guide site in Korea.

The post contains a list of well-known professional gamers or streamers who are safe in the Arena and other Korean players.

Luche began reviewing the players from the top of the list.

– There are quite a few familiar usernames.

– The Arena will likely end up being won by a professional player… Hmm, I think similarly.

– After all, the amount of practice differs from the start. The quality of internal coaching and analysis will also vary.

– Still, I don’t think professionals will surely win. You never know what dark horse might appear.

– Isn’t the unpredictable nature of esports part of its charm?

Most of the comments will likely be positive.

Luche’s attitude towards others is quite cautious.

Since she’s not trash-talking before the match, there’s no point in bashing other players behind their backs that would just stir up controversy.

That’s why I wasn’t particularly interested in Luche’s assessment of professional players.

After all, professional gamers are just enjoyable opponents for me right now. Nothing more, nothing less.

Still, the reason I continued listening to the broadcast was… my username would soon appear as the scroll went on.

The moment of having my favorite username mentioned!

This thrilling anticipation!

And when the scroll reached the word ‘Gawol’…

I turned up the broadcast’s volume.

– Look, there’s Gawol. You’re even in the top rankings.

– That’s impressive. There are very few of you left among domestic amateurs.

– I can understand what Traveler says. You’re really strong in one-on-one combat.

– Speaking of which, you haven’t accepted Traveler’s friend request yet, have you?

– Do you personally dislike it?

My head tilted in confusion while listening to the broadcast.

Traveler sent me a friend request?

What’s this all about?
