Chapter 21: Encounters Always Come Suddenly
“Boss, another round here!”
After downing the beer in her cup, Weirafiya slammed it onto the table and shouted at the Boss for another drink.
“Sure thing. By the way, Miss, don’t you think you’ve had a bit too much today? It seems like you’ve been at it since morning. Drinking this much beer isn’t good for your health; you should take better care of yourself.”
Despite his words, the Boss’s actions were honest as he filled her cup to the brim once again.
This little girl is truly terrifying. She may look so small, but she’s already thrown back enough beer to take down several grown men. Is this what they mean by judging a book by its cover?
“Hey, Boss, just give it up. My lady here is quite stubborn; whether something cheers her up or brings her down, she drowns it all in booze.”
Yaser watched his lady downing the drinks. Although he worried about what would happen if she kept drinking so much, he realized that as a purebred Phoenix, a few beers were nothing to her. Over time, he just let her indulge in her drinking.
“Speaking of which, Lady, I wanted to ask you something.”
“Ah, what is it? Just say it.”
Weirafiya winked at Yaser.
“Why did you suddenly decide to get rid of those Magical Beasts around us? You didn’t seem to care about them before.”
Yaser’s curiosity was piqued by her sudden interest in those beasts she previously ignored, especially after she had wiped them all out the night before.
“Oh, that? It’s nothing. I was just bored last night and thought those Magical Beasts were still lurking around, so I ran over and dealt with them all. What’s the issue?”
Weirafiya’s answer was quite carefree; she simply decided to slay the beasts because she was bored.
“None, no issue at all. I just thought perhaps you had a sudden attack of conscience and went to save those Magical Beasts. Turns out I worried for nothing.”
Yaser honestly expressed his thoughts, which only displeased Weirafiya.
“Hey, what do you mean by that? When did I ever lose my conscience?!”
Weirafiya swung her tiny fists at Yaser’s chest, venting her frustration.
“Ah, okay, I’m sorry! That was a mistake. My lady is the most kind-hearted person in the world. She absolutely cannot stand the residents being harassed by Magical Beasts!”
Yaser quickly changed his tone to avoid truly upsetting her. If she really did get angry and came after him full force, he would probably end up as nothing more than a pile of bones.
“Hmph, at least you know how to behave. You understand that I’m the most kind-hearted person in the world.”
As Yaser predicted, upon hearing his backtrack, Weirafiya stopped her playful attack.
【Phew, I’m glad I backtracked quickly; otherwise, I might have died here today.】
Yaser mentally sighed, thankful for his quick wit.
“Welcome! What can I get you two?”
“Let me have a big beer. Yake, what do you want? Want to join me in a beer?”
“Hmm, I think I’ll go with a glass of milk for now.”
“Okay, one beer and one milk. Do you want ice with your beer?”
“Of course! Give me an ice-cold beer.”
Just then, new customers walked into the Tavern, but why did their voices sound so familiar?
“Lady, I feel like I’ve heard those two voices somewhere before.”
Yaser whispered to Weirafiya beside him.
“Duh, don’t ask me! Just turn around and look; they probably haven’t seen you before.”
Weirafiya didn’t want to reveal her identity just yet, so she pushed Yaser to look for himself.
“Fine, I’ll check. Wow, so it really is them! Lady, those two are the same ones we saw fighting last time.”
Yaser turned around to see the two figures. Sure enough, it was Yake and Aierjisi.
“I can’t believe we ran into them here by chance. I hope they don’t notice us.”
“Why not? Aren’t they our companions?”
“How many times must I say it? Those slackers can’t possibly be my companions. If they want to join me, they’d better get stronger.”
Disdain was clear on Weirafiya’s face as she glanced at Yaser. After all, he was her contracted partner. Couldn’t he have a bit more vision? If they wanted to be companions, they at least needed some real strength. If they didn’t have that, then sorry, they wouldn’t be companions; they’d just be a burden.
“So what are we going to do next?”
“What else? Just keep eating and drinking! Let’s see how far that Little Princess can go; if she impresses me, then I might consider lending her a hand. Boss, another round!”
Weirafiya downed her beer in one go, immediately calling for more from the Boss.
“Alright, coming right up! Just wait a moment while I serve this ice-cold beer to the customer.”
The Boss carried the freshly poured ice-cold beer over to Aierjisi.
“Here you go, this is your ice-cold beer, and here’s your hot milk. Please enjoy! By the way, are you sure you can drink, little lady?”
The Boss looked at Aierjisi, considering her merely an 11-year-old girl. Although he ran a bar, he had his principles and wouldn’t serve alcohol to children.
“Are you doubting me? How can I prove that I’m old enough to drink beer?”
Aierjisi was well aware that her appearance made it quite troublesome to order a drink.
“Well, if you can show me your Adventurer Qualification Certificate or any other ID, I can serve you the beer.”
“Adventurer Qualification Certificate, huh? I have one right here. Here you go.”
Aierjisi pulled out her Adventurer Qualification Certificate, which she had prepared earlier. Who would have thought it would come in handy now?
“Hmm… this is genuine! Looks like you really are an adult. I’m sorry for doubting you; we have strict checks here. To avoid getting shut down, I must verify that all our customers meet the age requirement for drinking. Really sorry for the trouble.”
“No problem at all! As long as I can enjoy my beer, that’s all that matters.”
“Speaking of which, ma’am, it really is a coincidence. There’s another girl over there who looks just about your age, also drinking beer.”
The Boss pointed to Weirafiya, who was chugging more beer at the bar.
【Huh? Why does that silhouette look so familiar? Have I met that girl somewhere before?】
Aierjisi squinted at the figure the Boss pointed to, suddenly feeling as though she had seen that girl before.
