Chapter 211

Chapter 211: The Dawn of the Magical Beast and the Sand Dune

“Right! That’s the answer! Hurry up and take down that Ojimann so I can unleash my power, brother!”

With Ra’s shout, the mummy lying in the coffin reached out to me.

Snap, crackle.

The long-still mummy’s bones and joints squeaked disturbingly as they moved after so long.

“How dare you disturb my rest! For this crime, you shall surrender your life force…!”

The dreadful voice of the Mummy King echoed.

— The final boss of this dungeon!

I raised my front paw and swung down hard at the mummy, thinking that its skinny body could be smashed with a simple attack.

Wham!

However, my paw made a sharp metallic sound when it hit its bony arm.

“What the heck is with these bones? They’re harder than they look… No way this is just bone; it’s like a steel frame!”

Contrary to my expectation that it would shatter instantly, the Mummy King’s body was as solid as dense steel.

Numb tingle.

My paw throbbed painfully from the hard hit.

Hmph.

I clicked my tongue and pulled back, creating some distance from the coffin.

— This guy is surprisingly sturdy! Be careful not to get killed!

— Looks like the legend is true! The great Ojimann covered his bones with indestructible orichalcum!

Hearing Sand’s remark from behind, I suddenly understood why this thing was so tough.

— What is it, some Wolverine wannabe? Does he have some kind of regeneration ability?

Ra, who was floating in the air, replied to my muttering.

“This creature has this steel-like body because it took my power. It has stolen both my powers of destruction and regeneration.”

— Destruction and regeneration, huh!

I rapidly approached the mummy, which was trying to crawl out of the coffin, and pulled out my claws, aiming for its neck.

Scrape!

My claws made a sound like a saw scraping metal. As the wrappings tore away, its red, glowing skin was revealed beneath.

Unlike a mummy that had been trapped for thousands of years, its skin appeared smooth and shiny, indicating that not only the bones but even the skin was coated in steel.

Woosh.

The scratch on its neck healed almost instantly.

Finally, the Mummy King fully emerged from the coffin and stomped its foot onto the ground, piercing it with the nail of Ra that it held.

“Arise, and bring me the heads of the traitors!”

Crash. Fizz.

Dry bones stretched out from the solid ground, creating an army of immortal undead crawling up to block my way like a wall.

— Grrr…

— Ahhh!

Beasts, stone dwarves, and various other bone shapes screamed, their hollow eyes glaring red.

— The dead are rising from the ground! Get away!

“Unbelievable. I can’t believe my eyes. They rise again even after being broken.”

— We need to take down that mummy! Only then will this madness end!

Wham, crash. Crack!

My companions swung down and smashed the bones surrounding us. But the bones merely reattached and transformed into even more grotesque skeletons.

‘Truly unkillable these guys.’

— Urgh…

The revived bones blocked both me and the great Ojimann, their teeth flashing menacingly.

I swung my paw and tail, knocking the skeletons down like dry leaves, but it was nothing but a waste of energy against the relentless onslaught of regenerating foes.

Crack.

I tightened my jaw and my right front paw, sharpening my claws.

Swish!

With a powerful swing, my claws created a blade-like wind that sliced through the skeletal barrier, giving me a chance to approach the Mummy King.

Like the Red Sea parting, I rushed through the gap with all my might.

— I’m gonna smash it till it crumbles!

“How dare you!”

With a graceful flick of its wrist, the Mummy King directed the broken bones on the ground to launch at me like a wave.

Swoosh!

The jagged, spiky bones became a sharp shockwave all on their own.

— This wave is hard to dodge.

I danced up close to the incoming skeleton wave, rolling to evade it just in time.

“What…?”

The Mummy King’s voice sounded confused.

— It’s not over yet!

I kept my momentum from the roll and spun rapidly, combining my Roll skill with my Destruction Procedure into an ultimate attack.

— Time to d*e!

With sharpened spines, I became a steel ball, charging at the Mummy with incredible speed.

BAM!

A sound like metal grinding filled the air, and a metallic smell filled my nose.

“Ugh!”

I continued to pound into the Mummy’s body until my spinning slowed. Finally, I finished my rotation with a mighty swing of my tail, aiming for its right arm.

Crash!

Clank.

My high-speed grinder-like tail made the weakened Mummy’s arm fall off with a single swipe. The creature growled angrily, clutching the ankhs in its left hand.

“You…! You are allied with the arrogant gods. Well, I shall end their reign and open the world of the dead with my own hands!”

Whoosh.

Crash!

The Mummy stabbed the ankh it held into its own left chest. Was it self-harm? Suddenly, the bones scattered on the ground started to cling to its body.

Snap, crunch, sizzle.

— Wh-what’s happening?! The bones are being sucked in!

“I thought I was a goner.”

My companions paused, taking a breath as they looked at me. They bore some wounds and were bleeding, but they seemed to be alive and well.

“All of you shall suffer!”

The Mummy King’s voice rang out ominously. Its body twisted and reorganized, transforming into a massive golem-like monstrosity, towering over us.

“I am the god of destruction and d*ath. Suffer my wrath!”

Its giant fist came crashing down toward me. For such a massive being, I naively thought I could just relax and evade. Just for a moment.

Creak, squeak.

The bony grip sprouted from the ground, capturing my hind legs and making it impossible to move.

GROWL!

The heavy bony fist came crashing down on me. I could almost imagine the look on the dinosaurs’ faces as they watched a meteor approaching.

‘If I can’t dodge, then I must block!’

I gathered all my strength in my right front paw and leaped up to meet the fist head-on.

THWACK!

Crash, crack!

The two fists collided with a strong explosion of wind.

— Noooo! I’m flying!

“I need to grab onto something!”

The destructive gust tossed everything around as it flailed violently.

CLANG!

My paw struggled against the giant bony fist matching its power, but soon the ground supporting my hind legs crumbled under the sheer weight of the Mummy’s fist.

‘Oh no.’

Disoriented by the force, I lost my balance just as the colossal bony god aimed to crush me.

“d*e! I’ll use your bones for my staff and your skin for my cloak!”

Its fists suddenly accelerated at an incredible speed, raining blows down on me like a hail of massive cannonballs.

‘Is this for real…?’

I was briefly taken aback by the terrifying display, but I clenched my teeth and countered, bouncing off each punch while sending my own strikes back.

WHAM!

I won’t let even one attack slip through!

— This is insane! It feels like the space is about to collapse! I’ve never fought like this before!

— That ancient god Ojimann Dias was terrifying, but this relentless barrage really is something else. What on earth am I witnessing…?

“From the outside, it looks like you’re matching blows, but the balance of the White One is off. A quadrupedal beast trying to walk on two legs can’t help but feel the weight difference…”

Azi Dahaka’s calm assessment reached my ears, and I felt the imbalance slowly tip me forward.

“Worrrr! Crumple up!”

The colossal bony fist lunged at me, twisting with a lightning-fast right-hand straight. I gathered all my strength and launched my right front paw like a bowstring.

— Get back in the coffin!

To be honest, my paw, injured from scratches, stood little chance against its massive fist.

Even if our fists collided, it would hurt me immensely, while it felt nothing thanks to its bone armor. In other words, this fight was inherently very unfair.

But as my fists collided, I managed to send shockwaves into the skeletal mass.

THWACK!

Crack!

When my charged attack finally struck, Ojimann Dias was sent flying!

“Gyaaah!”

Even in its undead form, it must feel some pain, as it screamed and was sent crashing back to the coffin.

I forced my loose and dislocated right paw back into shape and bared my fangs.

— I’ve won! And I’m just getting warmed up!

The bubbling magma in my chest from the furious battle surged with flames, and I unleashed it all onto the Mummy’s coffin.

Woosh!

“Grahhh…”

Didn’t Ojimann Dias take Ra’s power of regeneration? Even as it burned, the sight of it regenerating was horrid.

However, despite its divine power, the original being was an ancient stone dwarf. Now it had spent all its energy and collapsed into a heap of sand on the ground.

Roll.

The ankh embedded in its chest rolled on the ground. Before the flames could incinerate it, I walked over to the pile of sand and picked up the sacred artifact, the ankh of Ra.

— Finally got it!

“Good, well done. Power is… returning to me!”

Ra, who had witnessed the entire scene beside me, shouted gleefully. An orange haze began to seep from the disintegrated Ojimann Dias’s body towards Ra.

As that happened, Ra’s previously holographic body became more distinct and solid.

Glimmer!

With an explosive flash, Ra’s body shone brightly.

“Great, my power has returned completely. I am Ra, the radiant one, the guardian of joy and demise. Brother, you’ve done me a great service.”

I squinted at Ra’s radiant form, which looked as blinding as hundreds of light bulbs being turned on at once. His tone somehow sounded smoother and more relaxed.

— Can you tone it down a bit? It’s too bright; I can’t see anything!

“Oh, I see. It’s only natural that a living being would have their eyes burn from looking too closely at me. I don’t know why you’re stuck in such an uncomfortable form, but fine. To celebrate the return of my full power, I shall separate your body and spirit.”

The dazzling Ra approached and clutched my head. A strange sensation made all the bl**d in my body rush to my head, causing me to shiver.

— Ugh!

“How bizarre. It’s been entirely mixed with the beast’s body. And the soul resembles that of the dwarves. If I attempt to separate them, you might just vanish.”

— Alright, if you got it, can you take your hand away? And how about dimming that brightness?

After my repeated requests, Ra hummed thoughtfully and gradually dimmed his light. Although some afterglow still lingered on my neck, it was bearable.

— It’s finally over! We did it!

“Fantastic! It’s shining so bright, but what exactly is happening?”

— Finally…

Sand the Cat, Stone Dwarf Totuga, and Jack approached me and Ra slowly. Ra wore a smile so gentle it was unrecognizable from our first encounter.

“Children, your courage and devotion deserve praise for generations. As a reward for defeating the cursed Ojimann Dias and freeing my power, I will grant each of you one wish.”

I had heard that when a person gains wealth and fame, they can become relaxed and their heart softens. Perhaps this colossal god Ra was no different.

— A wish? I’m so excited! I want… I want a long tail! My tail is too short! Make it twice as long as the other sand cats! It’s been pathetic being mocked for my short tail.

“I understand, creature of sand. Your tail will be twice as long as the others.”

Swish!

And just like that, the sand cat’s tail that had been wobbling at its backside grew to nearly a meter long.
