Chapter 213: Because, You Are My Young Master
The demon lord was momentarily stunned, not expecting the fox spirit to say such a thing.
Thinking back, the last time she referred to him this way was years ago.
Given that immortals and demons were traditionally at odds, it was somewhat ironic for a stunning fox spirit to still call the great demon lord “Young Master.”
In the past, it was an obligation when addressing him; now, he wondered what her intentions were.
The demon lord coldly replied, “I am no longer the Lin family’s young master, and you are not their maid. Why still call me ‘Young Master’? Don’t you find that ridiculous?”
“Not ridiculous at all. A young master is still a young master, always accompanying me, and that won’t change,” the fox spirit said softly.
“You want to kill me; that, too, won’t change.”
The demon lord replied indifferently, not relaxing his guard due to her few words.
After all, he was the scourge of the world, the great demon lord who had unknowingly slaughtered countless people, stained by the blood of many. There was nothing in this world he cherished; he only desired its destruction.
Countless people wanted him dead; any righteous figure who could kill him would become a great hero, renowned across the land.
Besides, he was currently heavily injured, cornered at the exit. Engaging in a direct confrontation would put him at an extreme disadvantage, raising the likelihood of his defeat.
This was a rare opportunity for someone to kill him and make a name.
No righteous person would let such an opportunity slip away.
Yet, in front of the great demon lord, the fox spirit asserted, “I never thought of killing my young master; that hasn’t changed.”
“Never thought of it?” The demon lord couldn’t help but chuckle coldly.
“I wreak havoc across the world; the immortals of Zifeng Valley despise me. Isn’t it true that as an immortal from Zifeng Valley, you’d want me dead? Haha, I understand now. You’re planning to capture me alive and display my defeat to the world, right?”
“No, never.”
The fox spirit calmly responded to the demon lord’s words, “I came to Zifeng Valley just to see you again and ensure your well-being; that’s enough for me.”
“You’ve seen me now. If I die, then you definitely ensure my well-being.”
“I know you don’t believe me, but that’s fine. Whether you believe or not, I won’t kill you.”
The fox spirit deliberately moved aside, “They know I will guard this pass, so they won’t send anyone else to intercept you. Young master, you should hurry, or the pursuers will catch up.”
The demon lord found her words strange. What was the fox spirit doing? She was letting go of a chance to gain merit in front of him?
That seemed unlikely. Zifeng Valley continuously preached the ideology of eliminating demons and stabilizing the world; it was a consensus among the immortals that the great demon lord should meet a terrible end.
Perhaps she was cautious, saying this intentionally to lower his guard?
Once a naive young girl, the years had transformed her. She had matured and ascended to become a fox spirit, constantly battling demons and monsters, developing a remarkable mindset to understand the darkness of evil beings.
So, there was nothing wrong with intentionally saying this to ease his vigilance.
The demon lord tightened his grip on the demon sword, stepping forward while ready for any sudden action from the fox spirit.
But the fox spirit still didn’t mobilize her spirit nor set up a formation; she only gazed at him with eyes filled with tenderness.
She felt pity for him and lamented the state of this world.
The young master had always yearned for ascension. In desperate attempts, he climbed up, yet she, his maid, became the immortal while he went down the path of darkness, becoming a scourge to the world.
The young master was truly pitiful, constantly treated with indifference, met with doubt, and ultimately forced out of the Xuanyun Sect.
Now, the state of the world was a consequence of various actions; this great demon lord was borne of everyone’s pressures.
She originally had no lofty ambitions of saving the world; she merely wished for a peaceful life, and aligning with Zifeng Valley was just to find the young master she once served.
What did the suffering masses have to do with her? When she was at her lowest, no one else stepped in; it was only the young master who offered his help.
The fox spirit never made a move, while the demon lord kept his vigilance. He gripped his demon sword but did not attack her.
As he walked past the fox spirit, moving farther away from her, he finally turned back and asked, “Why?”
“Because you are my young master,” the fox spirit replied, beaming a lovely smile.
However, suddenly, the entire valley collapsed, and the fox spirit disappeared among the falling rocks.
In the next moment, everything shifted to a spirit mountain, where the fox spirit was trapped by an array set by the immortals.
“Do you know what you’ve done? You let the great demon lord Lin Nuo go; the world is doomed to suffer again.”
“This was our best chance to kill him; who would have thought you’d act like this?”
“What a pity we nurtured you, only for you to betray us.”
“You will lose your freedom forever!”
Finally, the fox spirit would be trapped in the deep mountains, all alone.
……
He woke up.
Lin Nuo awakened, beads of sweat on his forehead, recognizing the familiar ceiling.
It felt like the initial sensation of rebirth, but his mindset had changed.
Back then, it was all about killing; now he was merely startled awake.
“So it was a dream.”
Lin Nuo wiped the sweat from his forehead. The dream felt so vivid, as if it had just happened.
That deep valley, that exit, that fox spirit, that encounter—everything was crystal clear in his mind.
“What’s wrong? I didn’t want to remember it, yet I still dreamt about it.”
Lin Nuo held his forehead, and closing his eyes reminded him of that enchanting fox spirit, her smile at their parting now the last he would ever see.
He looked out at the bright sky; he hadn’t actually slept long.
Initially planning to sleep all day, this dream had completely erased his drowsiness.
His gaze fell on the IOU on his desk.
“Forget it.”
Lin Nuo quickly threw off the blanket, got dressed in the white Daoist robes of Xuanyun Sect, strapped on his sword, and slipped the IOU into his pocket.
He pushed open the door and stepped out of the room.
Li Ruo’er had just informed the immortals of Zifeng Valley about Lin Nuo’s thoughts and was now sweeping leaves in front of the dormitory.
She noticed Lin Nuo approaching.
“Young Master, you’re up so quickly! I’ve already relayed your message to the immortals of Zifeng Valley! They’re willing to wait for you,” Li Ruo’er smiled.
“Where are they?”
“In Hunyung Hall! They’re chatting with the sect leader.”
“Alright, let’s go over now.”
“Oh, then hurry up, Young Master!”
“I meant ‘we.’ You’re coming with me.”
Lin Nuo took Li Ruo’er’s hand, heading towards Hunyung Hall.
