Chapter 22: Let’s Make a Bet

Chapter 22: Let’s Make a Bet

“Hey, you two are ganging up on me! Isn’t that a bit too shameless? Where’s the honor in that?”

If it were just Diablo or Titan one-on-one, I could manage, but facing both of them alone? My chances are practically nil! Weirafiya could only yell, furious at their lack of decency in resorting to a group attack.

“Honor? Don’t make me laugh! We’re not here for a duel or a tournament; we came to capture you! Why should we bother with honor? And if I recall, it’s you guys who ditched it first!”

Titan fired back without hesitation, directly scolding Weirafiya. How could these honorless goons have the gall to accuse anyone else?

“We’re just swapping opponents! But you lot went straight for a group beatdown. Who’s really being shameless here?”

Weirafiya didn’t think they did anything wrong; they merely changed up their opponents! It was they who decided to gang up without shame. If anyone was being shameless, it was the others!

“I don’t care about your whining! We’re not in a martial arts competition! In battle, any means necessary can be employed, even a group attack. Right? Besides, I didn’t see you fight Diablo fairly when it was just the two of you!”

Titan had no intention of dragging out the conversation with Weirafiya. He ramped up the speed of his sword strikes, eager to take down this little phoenix quickly and then jump to Freya’s side.

Diablo, of course, wasn’t just going to sit back and watch; he joined Titan in launching an assault, giving Weirafiya quite a beating.

“Since that’s the case, don’t blame me for using my real abilities!”

“Stop your whining! If you really have some skills, then show us, or you might just miss your chance!”

“Well, you did say that, so now I’ll pull out my true talent.”

As Diablo swung a fist at her, Weirafiya deliberately didn’t dodge, letting the punch connect and knock her out.

“Huh? What just happened? Diablo, did you really hit her so hard that she’s dead?”

Seeing Weirafiya drop lifelessly at Diablo’s punch, Titan was at a loss. How were they supposed to explain this? They were here to capture her alive!

“Uh…”

“You two don’t need to worry about that because she’s a Phoenix!”

Just as Diablo fretted over this, Gilbaris warned them not to let their guard down—the fight wasn’t over yet.

Suddenly, Weirafiya’s body caught fire, and amidst the flames, she resurrected, fully healed, glaring at both of them.

“Well, what do you think? I’m the Phoenix, the immortal bird! You can’t defeat me!”

Now revived, Weirafiya was back to peak condition, and the energy she had lost in battle was restored. Unlike her, Titan and Diablo weren’t at full capacity anymore. With this, she felt she could take them on.

“So she has a resurrection ability? No wonder she’s a Phoenix. But do you think that little trick can trouble us? I’m curious to see whether you can revive faster than I can kill you!”

Titan decided it was time to stop hiding his strength and show his trump card.

“Diablo, you don’t need to bother with her anymore; go help Freya instead.”

“Are you sure you can handle her alone? If it comes to dealing damage, I’m much better at it!”

“Don’t worry about it! Just leave it to me. I’m not holding back anymore; I want to see how many times this little phoenix can come back!”

“Alright, if that’s how you want it, I won’t stop you. I’m off now.”

“Hey, may the odds be in your favor!”

After sending Diablo away, Titan gripped his sword, flashing a cruel smile at Weirafiya, making her skin crawl. She could feel an unprecedented killing intent radiating from Titan. He was seriously out for blood!

“Wait! What’s the point of fighting like this? Isn’t it all just pointless violence? Why don’t we sit down and talk it out peacefully?”

“Sorry, but now that you want to chat, I’m not going to oblige. Perfect timing too, as I want to test just how sharp my swordsmanship really is! Besides, you can always revive. You’re the perfect training dummy!”

Before Weirafiya could respond, Titan’s sword slashed against her, leaving a horrendous gash.

“Ah!”

Weirafiya couldn’t help but let out a scream, collapsing to the ground. But Titan wasn’t done; he continued to unleash his sword arts on her, making her scream in agony again and again.

“Lady… Lady Weirafiya?”

Her cries jolted the still-unconscious Yake awake. Hearing his lady’s distress, he barely managed to sit up. If she was screaming like that, she definitely needed his help! He had to get to her side!

“Oh? You still have the strength to get up? I see you’re eager to reach Weirafiya, huh? Unfortunately, I can’t let you through. You just stay put and keep sleeping! By the time you wake up, everything will be settled.”

Gilbaris noticed Yake making his way toward Weirafiya and shot out a bolt of lightning at him.

【Yake, do you still believe in me? I’ve thought of a possible way to break this move. But I’m not sure if it’ll work as I expect. In the worst-case scenario, both of us might just end up dead. Do you want to take that bet with me?】

【Given the situation, I guess I don’t really have a choice. Let’s just go for it.】

【Great! I love your straightforwardness! Here I go!】

Aierjisi silently recited the fusion release in her heart, canceling the fused state with Yake.

“Trying to run? Not a chance!”

Gilbaris, noticing the pair’s separation, unleashed previously charged energy projectiles at them, engulfing their figures in a cloud of smoke from the ensuing explosion.
