Two Hundred Eighteen Light Spear
After the light slowly faded away, darkness gradually descended once more, until the radiance dissipated, leaving behind two pierced zombie puppets and a charred, black hole in Thistle’s chest, about the size of a bowl. The edges of the hole emitted wisps of white smoke, and the scent of roasted meat permeated the air.
The light spear had pierced three people at once, burning through their ribs, flesh, and spine in one go. Thistle stared in shock at everything before him, then fell slowly to the ground along with the other pierced zombie puppets.
Meanwhile, Vania looked at the scene before her, then at her hands, uttering in disbelief:
“The light spear… the lamp spear… the sunlight spear. Is this the new grace that Akasha has bestowed upon me?”
Dorothy, in the secret room, smiled lightly as she watched the three corpses lying on the ground from the remaining two surviving zombie puppets.
“Sunlight spear… Even with fewer buffs, its power remains so strong. It’s no wonder it’s considered one of Gwyn’s miracles.”
As Vania was on her way to King Campus by carriage, Dorothy worried about encountering a powerful enemy. To prepare for any unfavorable situation, she thought of utilizing Vania’s remaining soul book fragments. So, she tried to have Vania perform an exchange, using the secret transmission given by Audric to obtain some otherworldly knowledge.
Dorothy used the Navigation of the Literary Sea to teach Vania how to pray, offering the newly read secret transmission through the information channel. Then, she passed the secret transmission to the system to exchange for something. The result was the ability of the sunlight spear.
The sunlight spear—or sun spear—is a skill from the action-horror series “Dark Souls.” More accurately, it is a miracle, a divine power from the gods. In the game, players can use various miracles derived from legends of different god races. Among them, the sunlight spear is a miracle belonging to the highest-ranking god race in the Dark Souls world, the “Sun King,” Gwyn. Legend has it that he once struck down an ancient dragon with his light spear, initiating the Age of Fire alongside other fire-keeper souls.
In the hands of Dark Souls players, the sunlight spear is a miracle whose power increases with higher faith. When equipped with miracle-boosting gear and buffs, it deals extremely high damage.
After the exchange, the sunlight spear retained its characteristic of increasing power with higher faith. This faith did not necessarily need to be directed towards Gwyn. Although it lost the bonuses from equipment and buffs, its power could be enhanced by investing more “lamps.”
The minimum activation value for the sunlight spear is 3 “lamps.” Additional “lamps” invested increase its power further, with adjustments based on faith. The sunlight spear Vania used earlier, which cost around 4 “lamps,” was particularly suitable for her as both a “lamp” extraordinary being and a nun.
‘Amazing… Such a difficult enemy, at least Black Tier… And they were taken out so quickly? Is this the power of the new miracle granted by Akasha?’
Looking at the corpses, Vania thought incredulously. For the Akasha who had bestowed this power upon her, Vania now had new thoughts.
‘Such a sacred light spear, such pure “lamp” power. Could Akasha also be a deity of the “lamp” domain? Or does He have some connection with the Three Saints?
‘Akasha claims He is not one of the Three Saints, yet He has granted me such a holy miracle… Could He actually be one of the Three Saints, testing me with His denial? Or is there another reason?’
After witnessing the power of her sunlight spear, Vania was lost in thought. Dorothy, seeing Vania’s expression through the remaining zombie puppets, directly reminded her:
“Hey, Sister Vania, now is not the time to daydream.”
“Oh… Ah! Miss Dorothyia, sorry, I was just spacing out. Thank you for your assistance earlier. Are you nearby?” Vania apologized, recalling the capabilities of Dorothy’s zombie puppets from their encounter at the Phil Manor.
“I’m not here right now. Due to some matters, I can’t move freely at the moment. I just used some means to manipulate the corpses here a little to help.”
“Incapable of moving freely… Is everything okay over there? Is it dangerous, Miss Dorothyia?” Vania asked with concern. Dorothy responded with a smile through the zombie puppet:
“My situation is a bit complicated, but there’s no immediate danger. Don’t worry too much.
“Now that the trouble is resolved, the person I asked you to pick up is on the other side of the bridge. By the way, did you bring a carriage?”
Dorothy asked Vania, who nodded in response:
“Yeah, I came by taxi. Since the driver’s route doesn’t connect here, I gave him some money to wait on the other road for a while. It’s a few hundred meters away… Hopefully, he won’t run off when he hears the gunfire.”
“Alright, go ahead and bring the person to a safe place in the city, near the church. I still have some tasks for you after that. Once my affairs are settled, I’ll pay you the corresponding reward.”
Dorothy promised through the zombie puppet, knowing that every time she asked Vania to act, it came with a fee.
“Well… Actually, whether or not you pay me is fine, but I want to ask Miss Dorothyia, is this also the will of Akasha? Is our enemy this time, like in Igewent, an evil cult like the Holy Communion?”
Vania asked worriedly, concerned that Dorothy might be using her as a private force to eliminate opponents, rather than fighting evil. As a nun raised under the teachings of the Holy Mother, Vania wanted her actions to align with divine justice, not serve someone’s personal interests.
In short, Vania feared that Dorothy might misrepresent Akasha’s will to get her to do private work, some of which might be questionable. She wanted clarity on the meaning of her actions. Essentially, Vania wanted to act according to divine will, not human intent.
Each time Vania was pulled into doing something by Dorothy, she felt like she was working for Dorothy rather than for Akasha. If she were truly executing Akasha’s will, she wouldn’t need payment.
Hearing Vania’s words, Dorothy understood her intentions and smiled:
“Haha, don’t worry. If tonight’s matter wasn’t the will of Akasha, why would He grant you more power again?”
“Ah… That’s true…” Vania scratched her head, realizing that if Akasha had bestowed her with power again, it must be His will, directing her to use this power against formidable enemies.
‘This seems to indicate that Miss Dorothyia holds a high position within Akasha’s earthly organization… Many actions derived from Akasha’s will are managed by her. It’s quite enviable…’
Vania thought, beginning to envy Dorothy’s status under Akasha. At that moment, Dorothy continued speaking through the zombie puppet:
“If you want to understand the significance of what you did tonight and know what kind of enemy you face, you can ask Miss Nephnis when you pick her up. She will tell you. After you reach a safe place, contact me with the book.”
“Okay, I understand. May Akasha protect you and ensure all goes well…”
Making a gesture of the Radiant Church, Vania said to Dorothy, then ran toward the other end of the bridge. In the secret room, Dorothy listened to Vania’s words and paused slightly, then frowned and muttered:
“May Akasha protect me?”
“Mm… It feels strange…”
Shaking her head and disregarding other matters, Dorothy began remotely controlling the zombie puppets to clean up the battlefield.
