Chapter 221 – Purchase
In East Tivyán, within the Golden Contract Bank.
Nephnis, who was sitting in the waiting hall, was momentarily stunned when a young man suddenly sat next to her. She had not expected that someone would approach her on her first solo visit here, and the man asked her if she was an Extraordinary Being right away.
Facing the smiling young man, Nephnis was unsure how to respond at first. After a moment’s thought, she spoke.
“I’m sorry, sir. I don’t know you. Whether or not I am an Extraordinary Being is none of your concern.”
Nephnis declined politely. The young man laughed in response.
“Haha, my apologies. I was out of line. Let me introduce myself. My name is Moisans. I am a small figure pursuing the path of the Extraordinary, with a passion for making friends who share similar interests to explore this path together…”
He glanced around before lowering his voice slightly.
“Miss, our organization actually has a small gathering of Extraordinary Beings. We exchange secrets and materials among ourselves regularly. I suggest you join us to take a look. Don’t buy anything here first; if you find what you want at the gathering, it will be cheaper than buying it here.
“Also, we offer Maplin Black Tea. As you know, it’s beneficial for anyone studying the Extraordinary.”
Moisans said to Nephnis. She was slightly taken aback by his words but responded quickly.
“Thank you for your kind offer, Mr. Moisans, but I think I’ll pass for now.”
“Do you really not want to see? Our gatherings occasionally have Black Iron Tier figures present. You might gain valuable experience there,” Moisans continued persuasively. Nephnis replied.
“Hmm… I have urgent matters. If I have the chance later, I’ll go.”
“What a pity. Then please keep my card. Contact me if you have time in the future,” Moisans said, handing her a card as he spoke. Nephnis hesitated but eventually took it.
“Then, may we meet again, Miss.”
After waving, Moisans walked away. Watching him leave, Nephnis frowned, thinking:
‘What a strange guy. He was so enthusiastic right from the start. I feel like he might have ill intentions, so it’s better to reject all invitations. It’s best not to meet him again…’
As she thought this, Nephnis threw the postcard she had just received into the nearby trash bin and continued pondering.
“Maplin Black Tea… Is it a popular drink in the Secret World? And Black Iron Tier… is one of the ranks among Extraordinary Beings?”
Nephnis waited, watching more people being called into the Stone Door. As time passed, the number called got closer to hers.
Finally, the Stone Door called Moisans’ number. Smiling at Nephnis, he entered the door. After a while, a voice came from inside.
“Number 027.”
Seeing her number called, Nephnis immediately stood up, carrying her small bag and walking to the Stone Door. She pushed open the door and went inside.
Inside the Stone Door, Nephnis found herself in a small, enclosed stone room. Opposite her was a wall intricately carved with patterns, with a square hole in the center. A chair was placed in front of the hole, and beside it was another door.
“Please sit down.”
A steady voice came from behind the wall. Nephnis nervously sat down in the chair.
“Miss, what service do you require?”
“I want to purchase a secret transmission related to ‘Silence,'” Nephnis said directly. The voice from behind the wall quickly responded.
“A secret transmission about ‘Silence’? Apart from the requirement of spiritual type, do you have any other requirements? For example, the author’s era?”
“No, just a secret transmission about ‘Silence,’ any of the cheapest ones you have.”
“Alright, please wait a moment.”
Nephnis said, and after a brief pause, the voice continued.
“We have the secret transmission ‘Furon’s Elegy,’ priced at 420 pounds. Would you like to pay in cash?”
‘Four hundred pounds… quite expensive. Are all items related to the Extraordinary this costly?’
Thinking to herself, Nephnis immediately replied.
“Can I use another secret transmission for the exchange?”
“Sure… but we need to check its value. Please place the secret transmission you wish to exchange inside.”
The wall replied, and Nephnis opened her bag, taking out a green-covered book—the ‘Adventures in the Voodoo Forest,’ given to her by Vania to use as payment for the secret transmission.
Nephnis placed the secret transmission into the hole in the wall and waited patiently. After a while, a voice came from inside.
“One secret transmission of ‘Cup,’ based on the degree of poison recognition, we estimate this transmission to be worth 280 pounds. You still need to pay 140 pounds to complete the transaction.”
Hearing this, Nephnis quickly took out a thick stack of bills from her bag, counted out 140 pounds, and placed them inside the wall.
Of the 140 pounds, 40 pounds were her own money, and 100 pounds were provided by Vania. After the battle at the Phil estate, she had received about four hundred pounds in cash, which she had saved as a nun. Now, it finally came in handy.
“Thank you for your patronage. If there are no further transactions, please exit through the door on your right.”
The voice continued, and a long wrapped item was passed through the hole, landing in front of Nephnis.
“Thank you.”
Relieved, Nephnis thanked him and placed the wrapped item in her bag. She then turned and exited through the right-hand stone door.
Thus, Nephnis completed the transaction.
…
Outside the Golden Contract Bank, people bustled along the sidewalks, and carriages streamed down the streets. The lively scene remained unchanged.
On the side of the road, a carriage was parked. In front of it, several figures stood, gazing into the distance, their eyes fixed on a side entrance of the Golden Contract Bank.
Leading them was Moisans.
“Boss, the target hasn’t come out yet?”
A man next to Moisans said. Moisans, smoking a cigarette, replied directly.
“Don’t rush. Her number is close to mine. Since I’ve come out, she should be coming soon.”
As he smoked, Moisans added.
“Boss, can we confirm the level of this target?”
“Not much to confirm. Based on my probing, she didn’t even notice the common sense error in my words. She’s probably just a novice. Maybe she’s some noble girl who stumbled upon the Extraordinary by chance. Heh… such targets are the easiest.
“Though she’s still cautious and didn’t accept my invitation directly, it doesn’t matter. It’s just another step.”
Looking at the bank’s side door, Moisans responded. Finally, after a long wait, they saw the side door open, and Nephnis emerged.
