Chapter 23: Killing Again – The Gate of Apocalypse Rebirth – Full Novel Website
Killing Again!
Gu Ning was assigned to rooms 308 and 309 on the third floor of the girls’ dormitory.
It was clear that Third Brother still held some status in the gathering place.
Gu Ning didn’t notice that Xiao Yunyun and the others weren’t assigned here.
The bedding, sheets, and even the bamboo mats in the dormitory had been “looted clean.” Huang Mengyao had already taken out the clothes Gu Ning had stuffed in her backpack and used them as padding on the bed. Gu’s father and mother were still lying unconscious on the bed, their faces sallow and sickly. Gu Ning’s heart ached, and she quickly called in Dr. Gao to check on her father’s injuries.
“There are mild signs of dehydration. The wound is severely infected and must be debrided as soon as possible, or the infection could worsen and potentially lead to cancer,” Dr. Gao said with a frown after examining Gu’s father’s wound. She stepped outside to speak with Gu Ning: “I can perform the surgery, but I don’t have the tools or medicine right now.”
Hearing that Dr. Gao could perform the surgery, Gu Ning felt slightly reassured. She then said, “Alright, tell me what tools and medicine you need. Make a list, and I’ll figure it out.”
Dr. Gao pulled out a pen and a small notebook from her medical kit and started listing the items while speaking to Gu Ning: “The nearest place is Lishui People’s Hospital. They should have everything needed for the surgery. If possible, try to bring as much as you can, and don’t forget the medicine from the pharmacy.”
Gu Ning quickly glanced at the list, folded it carefully, and placed it in her pocket. She then said to Dr. Gao, “Got it.”
Dr. Gao, having heard that Gu Ning was Third Brother’s niece, didn’t bother asking how she planned to get to Lishui People’s Hospital. She simply said, “Once you’ve gathered everything, send someone to notify me. I’ll head out now.”
“Alright, thank you, Dr. Gao,” Gu Ning said.
“Just call me Gao Yue,” Dr. Gao nodded at her and then left with her medical kit.
“Maybe we should head to Lishui Hospital now,” Cheng Ming suggested to Gu Ning after watching Gao Yue leave.
Zhang Yang volunteered, “I know the way; I can guide you!”
Gu Ning replied, “No rush. I need to go out first. Don’t wander off; the food is in the backpack, so help yourselves. If my parents wake up, tell them not to worry and to take care of themselves.”
“Don’t worry about that. But it’s so chaotic outside; where are you going alone? Maybe Cheng Ming should go with you,” suggested Jia Daozhang.
“No need. I’m just walking around the school to gather some information. I’ll be back in about two hours.”
Since Gu Ning had already made up her mind, Cheng Ming reluctantly agreed.
Without wasting any more time, Gu Ning left her gun behind and headed out with her knife.
Jia Daozhang stood on the balcony of the hallway, watching Gu Ning’s figure grow smaller in the distance. His narrow eyes squinted slightly as he suddenly remembered the last divination he had performed for himself before the apocalypse. The omen had shown great calamity descending, with the world in chaos, yet within that calamity, there was a faint, intermittent thread of hope.
His divination skills had always been unreliable, so he hadn’t taken it seriously. But soon after, the apocalypse broke out.
Only then did he realize that his divination had actually come true, against all odds!
But if the great calamity and the world’s chaos had come true, where was that thread of hope?
As Jia Daozhang watched Gu Ning’s retreating figure, a flash of insight seemed to strike him.
Gu Ning, holding her knife, quickly made her way through the dormitory building, looking for a secluded spot where she could enter her space unnoticed.
The bright sun hung directly overhead, but it didn’t provide much warmth. She glanced at the time—it was already noon.
Gu Ning quickly calculated the time in the other world, but before she could finish, her steps suddenly halted. She cautiously eyed a group of people approaching her with menacing intent. Sensing the hostility, the pedestrians on either side of the road quickly scurried away, leaving the area deserted.
Meanwhile, curious heads popped out from the windows and balconies of the classroom buildings on either side, eager to witness some excitement.
After the apocalypse, all electronic entertainment had become useless, and people were desperate for some stimulation. Naturally, they were eager to see some conflict.
The leader of the group, a young man in a black T-shirt, shouted at Gu Ning as they approached, “Are you the girl who killed Wang Ye?!”
Gu Ning immediately felt uneasy when she saw the various “weapons” they were carrying. Before she could respond, the young man snarled, “Kill her!”
At his command, the dozen or so young men behind him brandished their weapons and charged at Gu Ning!
The road was less than five meters wide, with a teacher’s building on one side and a boys’ dormitory on the other.
Hearing the command to kill her, Gu Ning knew these people were after her life. Without even thinking, she knew who had sent them.
Gu Ning wasn’t a hot-headed teenager. On the contrary, in such situations, she remained calm and rational. Her first instinct was to turn and run!
However, after only a few steps, she stopped. From the cafeteria entrance she had just passed, five or six more young men emerged, blocking her retreat. Each of them was armed, clearly targeting her.
With no way to retreat, Gu Ning didn’t bother trying. The wound on her palm still throbbed, but she couldn’t afford to worry about it now. She switched the knife to her right hand and charged forward without hesitation!
For a brief moment, the overwhelming aura emanating from Gu Ning made the approaching group feel an indescribable pressure. However, they quickly dismissed it, thinking that with over a dozen of them, they could easily handle one girl.
But soon, they paid the price for underestimating her.
When the first person to engage Gu Ning had his arm severed and fell to the ground, screaming like a pig being slaughtered, even the onlookers on the balconies were stunned. Some gasped in shock.
Gu Ning, however, remained unfazed. Her expression was as calm as if she had just killed a zombie.
It was indeed a one-sided slaughter, but the roles were reversed.
Gu Ning raised her knife to block an axe aimed at her face, then kicked back at someone trying to attack her from behind. To onlookers, the kick didn’t seem powerful, and even the attacker didn’t take it seriously. But when the kick landed on his abdomen, he was sent flying, crashing into the wall of the classroom building. He was too stunned to comprehend what had just happened.
Gu Ning grabbed the axe’s handle and twisted it with force. The young man holding the other end felt a tremendous force wrenching his hand, causing him to scream in pain as the axe slipped from his grip. Before he could react, a sharp pain shot through his shoulder. Warm liquid splashed onto his face as he turned to see the axe embedded in his shoulder, revealing a glimpse of bone. He screamed, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted from the shock.
In the blink of an eye, four men were down—three severely injured, missing limbs, and one impaled by his own spear.
The leader in the black T-shirt was now drenched in cold sweat, half from fear and half from pain. He had been kicked to the ground by Gu Ning, and only now did he realize how terrifying the seemingly frail girl’s strength was. When she kicked him, he felt as if a charging rhinoceros had rammed him with its horn. Now, leaning against the wall, he couldn’t even stand, his abdomen throbbing with pain—likely from broken ribs.
He had brought so many people to take out Gu Ning and her companions, but luck had it that they encountered Gu Ning alone. The boss had promised him enough supplies to feed his group for half a month if he killed Gu Ning. In the apocalypse, killing someone was no big deal—man, woman, or child.
But he never expected to run into such a female killing machine. As he watched the blonde girl wielding her long knife amidst the crowd, a deep fear welled up inside him.
However, Gu Ning wasn’t as composed as the onlookers thought. The bandage on her palm greatly affected her grip on the knife, and several times she felt it slipping from her hand. At the same time, her strength was rapidly depleting. So, she didn’t hold back—these people were truly trying to kill her, aiming for her vital points with every strike.
Her knife plunged into the chest of a young man who looked no older than eighteen or nineteen. His eyes widened in disbelief, pain rendering him speechless. His gaze was filled with fear, despair, and hatred as his right hand clutched her arm. But Gu Ning only gave him a cold glance before pushing him toward the blade of his companion.
For those who sought her life, she had no mercy.
As another man’s knife stabbed into the young man’s body, his face momentarily blank with shock, Gu Ning grabbed the attacker’s wrist and twisted it violently, forcing him to the ground. Without hesitation, she brought her knife down on his neck.
Warm blood splattered onto Gu Ning’s face, but she didn’t wipe it off. She slowly straightened up, her cold gaze sweeping over the men standing three meters away, who were now too terrified to approach.
Then, she looked up, her icy eyes scanning the faces of the onlookers at the windows and balconies, their expressions a mix of awe and fear. Finally, Gu Ning calmly wiped the blood off her knife on the man who had lost an arm at her feet and stepped over the blood-soaked ground, heading toward her intended destination.
Throughout the entire ordeal, aside from the groans of the injured men on the ground, not a single sound was made by anyone else.
“Boss White Wolf!”
The door to the conference room suddenly burst open, and a man rushed in.
The room, occupied by six or seven people, all turned to look at him.
White Wolf, who had been bored during the meeting, now perked up and asked, “What’s going on?”
The man who had rushed in cautiously glanced at Wang Jizhong, seated second to White Wolf’s right, before replying, “A group of over ten people just went after that girl with knives.”
“That girl,” of course, referred to Gu Ning, who had caused trouble at the school gate earlier.
The man in the white shirt sitting to White Wolf’s right glanced at Wang Jizhong, who looked somewhat smug, a hint of displeasure flashing in his eyes behind his gold-rimmed glasses.
Third Brother, however, abruptly stood up: “What?!”
“Oh?” White Wolf’s slanted eyes glanced at Wang Jizhong and the now-standing Third Brother before asking, “And then? Did they kill her?”
“N-no,” the man stammered.
“No?” White Wolf raised an eyebrow in mockery. “Did she escape?”
“N-no,” the man shook his head, a trace of fear in his eyes. “Thirteen people—three are dead, five are severely injured, and the other five ran away.”
“What?!” This time, it was Wang Jizhong who stood up in agitation, leaning on the table and staring in disbelief at the messenger.
Third Brother, however, remained calm and sneered at Wang Jizhong, “Why so worked up, Boss Wang? It’s not like they were your men.”
Wang Jizhong, realizing his outburst, quickly sat back down.
The man in the white shirt looked at Third Brother and said, “Third Brother, it seems you really value your niece, going so far as to send people to protect her.”
Third Brother was about to respond when the messenger interrupted with a trembling voice, “N-no.” He recalled the scene, still shaken. “It was the girl… she did it all by herself.”
“What?!”
