Chapter 23

——————————————————–

[-Kwooooorrrr!!!!]

[“Eek! What is this?! Why is a monster suddenly in the sky…..That, that’s…a gate?!”]

[One student raised a finger high, revealing a massive gate emitting a sinister hue, rotating ominously.]

[-Kirelelelere…Rex!!]

[From the center of the spinning gate, armed Lizardmen began to burst forth, and the screams of fleeing students intertwined with the Grade 2 Student Council members attempting to restore order.]

[-Chaeng!]

[“This is a real situation! Everyone maintain your positions and prepare to fight the monsters! It’s a gate break!”]

[The voice of a student council member wearing a band looked very urgent. You turned your head to survey the situation around you.]

[As swords clashed, the monster’s body began to split in half. Although no blood was visible, the presence of the monster’s corpse confirmed that this was indeed a real situation.]

[-Wajangchang!]

[“Kuhhhhh…!!”]

[A student right next to you couldn’t handle the shock and slammed into the wall.]

[“Kaha! This is how it should be! It’s time for the tank to shine!”]

[Despite crashing into the wall, the boy wielding a massive shield quickly started to shove the monsters aside and charged forward.]

(CLASS: Defender)

[“Haaah…I’m so sleepy, but it’s so noisy! Everyone, can you be quiet….!”]

[-Pazijijijik!!]

[The girl sleeping on the carpet waved her hand in annoyance, and multi-colored lightning struck, turning the group of monsters into ashes.]

(CLASS: Magician [Attack])

[-Seogeok!]

[“This way, it’s dangerous, so move back!”]

[The girl who held your hand pushed you back before diving into the heart of the enemy’s territory, dual swords in hand.]

(CLASS: Striker)

[-Pa-aeng!]

[“Everyone! Cover me!”]

[A girl with sky-blue hair, wearing a name tag that read Hanae Sakura, aimed a gigantic bow even larger than her body at the sky and began to unleash powerful arrows.]

(CLASS: Ranger)

[“Everyone, come this way! Evacuate to one place!”]

(CLASS: Magician [Support])

[-Paaa!]

[Bright light enveloped your body. Your condition rapidly returned to its best state, and you even began to feel a surge of confidence, as if you could do anything.]

[The blonde girl smiled and waved her staff, causing other students to seem to receive similar effects, making you think she had cast a buff on you. You looked around.]

[“W-What is this…I’m scared…!!”]

[“For now, if we gather here, we won’t be swept away all at once…”]

[“………………”]

[Among the frightened students, those calmly assessing the situation, and students fainting from sheer panic, what choice will you make?]

[1. Fight back]

[2. Observe the situation and look for the cause behind this crisis]

——————————————————–

‘This is how the Entrance Ceremony Incident began.’

The method to clear the ‘Entrance Ceremony Incident’ episode, where players must decide what position to take in the academy, was simple.

First, an unknown male student wielding a shield charges in, while Seong Ah-rin unleashes area-of-effect magic, sweeping away the enemies. Then, Yoo Eun-ha appears to save the protagonist in danger, charging in with her sword. Lastly, Hanae Sakura starts to wipe out the monsters from the back with arc shots.

Receiving supportive magic from Ecclesia at the end is a brief intro for the Entrance Ceremony Incident.

Upon seeing all four positions prominently displayed in that short intro, players select the position they desire.

‘Technically, the Magician is divided into two categories, but they are classified as the same position, so it’s four instead of five… If that’s the case, they could have just categorized the attacking Magicians separately from support Magicians or healers; that would have sufficed.’

Well, it could be a limitation of the game developers. If they chose Support, that would only strengthen the image of being a position that rides on others’ coattails.

Anyway, the protagonist confirms the roles of the four classified positions in the intro.

‘And then, they’ll step towards clearing the Entrance Ceremony Incident.’

Choosing [1. Fight back], they can band together with other students and deal with the hordes of monsters for the duration of the time limit.

Choosing [2. Observe the situation and look for the cause behind this crisis], they could end the test by destroying the augmented reality monster generator single-handedly.

‘Most people went for the second option.’

Option 1 is easy but takes quite a long time, around 4 to 8 minutes? In comparison, option 2 can be a 30-second finish if you step correctly.

In fact, routes to directly approach the generator have even been established from the start.

By the way, what position did the protagonist choose…? It suddenly intrigued me.

Defense is such a trash role, and many students aspiring to that position within the academy mostly choose Striker or ranged positions instead.

Positions like dealing-type Magicians or Rangers.

‘Ah, surprisingly, support-type Magicians are seldom chosen.’

As for the story’s midsection, it could progress smoothly as long as you choose the right party members and cast buffs correctly… but, of course, the main issue was that everyone struggled against Yoon Se-ah.

Unless you equip each party member with a mental attack immunity item or learn a mental attack immunity skill, most of them end up brainwashed and killed before they have a chance to do anything—this is the main reason.

It’s remarkable how Yoon Se-ah maintains the Wall of Lamentation so effectively.

‘A Striker is a really good position.’

Using quick speed, they navigate through enemy lines and wipe out foes, truly the best choice for Koreans addicted to mad movies.

Looking at the cooperation-focused Japanese, all positions are evenly distributed, while American players seem to pour enormous amounts of money into creating Thomas Andrea mk.2, leading to a large number of Defender positions.

Maybe they already decided on their positions beforehand, or maybe they could change their position here.

‘Whatever position the protagonist ends up with, it’s none of my concern.’

After all, the protagonist hadn’t even shown their face at the entrance ceremony.

They could have been late due to being held up by some unforeseen accident; as the Student Council President, it would be right for Yoon Se-ah to focus on resolving this Entrance Ceremony Incident without the protagonist.

‘By the way, surprisingly no one is running away?’

Except for a few students who were struck by a Lizardman’s club after shouting, “That’s all just virtual reality. I heard it from my dad beforehand, so don’t worry, and let’s defeat the monsters and earn points!” most seem to be fighting well.

Perhaps because there are some who have fallen like that, the others are grasping the seriousness of the situation and fighting together…

“Uwaaaah!! I don’t want to die here! No way!”

“………Disqualified. In the preliminary test, you were in Class A. You may have high output, but being this frightened means…I’ll demote you to Class C. I hope you can gain the resolve to fight the monsters and come back.”

After subduing the student trying to flee, I casually placed them into a black bag I had pulled out.

“Ayul, you said you could handle everything on your own, didn’t you?”

[“Just catch them already! Do you think being the Student Council President gives you leeway to slack off?!”]

“I’ve already caught about five, so I think I can afford to relax a bit.”

Quickly moving over to Kang Ayul’s side, I dropped down five bags, and saw her face show surprise at me.

“Hi, hiiiick….!”

Looking behind me, there seemed to be about 30 tied-up students, haphazardly bound with ropes.

‘I thought there would only be a few, but there are quite a lot.’

Half of the special admissions students were present in that group…it’s not unexpected, but still disheartening.

“Well, considering that no one could escape after receiving Ayul’s blade head-on… I’ll take care of these people for now.”

-Smack!

I flicked my finger lightly toward the frightened students, causing them to wobble and faint.

“Now, let’s write this on a piece of paper: ‘Determined to lack the mindset of a hero, this student’s class has been demoted by two stages,’ and…”

I placed one note written by hand into the pockets of each of the fallen students.

Those who are meant to grow will see this note and strive to come back up, while those without potential will settle into the demoted class or just vent their anger and naturally fall out of that class too. What a clean academy devoid of entrance exam corruption.

After demoting them by two stages based on their name tags, I leisurely turned my head to see the struggling students.

“Yawn, I’m sleepy. How much longer will this go on~?”

The sight of Seong Ah-rin napping on her carpet while automatically casting attack magic, Hanae Sakura mercilessly launching attacks surrounded by several Defenders, and Ecclesia granting attack power buffs to Sakura.

And Yoo Eun-ha and Ryu Shin-woo slicing through monsters alone in the enemy territory.

“Don’t get too close.”

“Haha, you! I like you?! Want to join the Spiral Guild?!”

‘Ryu Shin-woo, I told him to lure the cadets but why’s he helping them out over there?’

If I send a call now, my message would reach Yoo Eun-ha, who is fighting right next to me.

‘Well, for now, no one’s attempted to tamper with the augmented reality devices, so I might just keep watching…’

At that moment.

Something suddenly popped out from among the monsters.

“Haaaaah-!”

‘…………..’

A dazzling golden-eyed figure.

Short hair fluttering in the wind, with white hair that catches the breeze.

The one-handed sword she wielded radiated a shimmering magical power.

“With this, it’s over—!”

As the girl swung her sword wide, an enormous blade of energy surged toward the gate.

-Kwaaaang!!

At last, as the energy slice split the gate in half, the machine ceased to supply energy, unable to maintain the summoning of monsters anymore.

-Paaaah!

The now insubstantial monsters began to slowly disappear as streams of light.

Seeing the monsters fade into light, the students who were engaged in battle rapidly noticed the change.

“…….Oh? Suddenly, the monsters…?”

“This light is……the augmented reality battle device?”

“Alright! With this, the surprise test by the Director before the entrance ceremony is over!”

Only then did the students seem to understand the truth of the entrance ceremony event, and just then Eve appeared, swiftly calming the confused cadets.

“President, we need to start moving soon…President?”

“Yoon Se-ah, why are you suddenly zoning out again…….”

“………..No way. The protagonist was a girl?”

Except for a few students.
