Chapter 24

Yuika, who was standing near the entrance of the training ground, came over to us.

“Frank, Cedric, what are you doing?”

Yuika asked with a blank expression.

“We’re just practicing… but more importantly, how’s your cold?”

“I was worried about you since you were out for a week.”

“I let it worsen a bit… but Noel took care of me, so I’m okay.”

Noel seems really kind.

“Huh? You were at the dorm?”

“You should go back home. I mean, what about the hospital?”

“Hospital…”

Yuika tilted her head, still expressionless.

“You didn’t go?”

“I’m just lethargic and I hate waiting…”

No, you should go.

“Well, if you’re better, that’s good.”

“Yeah, I’m better. And it’s been proven that I’m not an idiot for catching a cold.”

“That’s just a superstition. Anyway, how did you catch a cold?”

Frank asked.

“I was holed up in the mountains during Golden Week doing waterfall training. It was cold.”

“That’s dumb.”

I wouldn’t say it’s entirely dumb, but having gone to my grandfather’s mountain to try something similar, I kept silent.

“It’s not dumb… hey, who is this person?”

Yuika looked at me.

“Oh, he’s a new student who came after Golden Week. He’s Japanese like you.”

“This is Nagase Tsukasa.”

As the two of them introduced me, Yuika silently approached and stared at me intently.

I stared back at her.

Yuika is petite, roughly a bit shorter than Toko. Probably around 150 centimeters.

Her face is cute, but she maintains a blank expression.

Her hair is a short black cut.

And she has considerable magic power, almost equal to Toko’s.

“…Why are these two staring at each other?”

“Maybe their wavelengths match?”

Frank and Cedric tilted their heads.

“I feel like I’ve heard of Nagase before.”

“I think I heard about Akaba from my father.”

They claimed they had no connections to the Nagase family.

“Huh… have we met somewhere before?”

“I don’t think so. At least, I don’t remember.”

“Hmm… I’ve seen that face somewhere… where was it?”

It’s probably Toko…

If I look closely, there’s a resemblance.

“We might have passed by each other somewhere. It’s Japan, after all.”

“That makes sense… Frank, you have a sword, but is the practice with you and Tsukasa?”

“That’s right.”

“I’m not going to fight, for sure.”

Cedric doesn’t seem to be the type who likes fighting.

“Hmm… this is perfect. I came to get some exercise after getting over being sick.”

Yuika pulled out two short swords from somewhere.

The swords were paired, each with a blade about 50 centimeters long.

“Which one?”

Cedric casually excluded himself and pointed alternately at Frank and me.

“Frank is all about defense, so it’s boring. I’ll go with Tsukasa.”

“Hey, you boring guy—”

I felt a bit happy to be chosen.

“It’s okay to be boring. If you die, that’s the end, so prioritizing defense is the right option.”

Well, that’s a valid point.

“See? Frank is boring. Let’s go!”

Yuika looked at me.

“I don’t hit girls.”

Except for Toko.

“It’s fine, I won’t hit you.”

Saying that, I put my hand in front of Yuika’s face.

Then, I grabbed her arm with my right hand and swept her legs.

Yuika was knocked down, but her figure vanished from in front of me.

“Whoa.”

Looking up, I found Yuika had escaped from my right arm and was flying in the air.

Then, she turned in mid-air and landed behind me, pressing her sword against my neck.

That was quite a different move compared to some beautiful women I know.

“I saw your underwear.”

“It’s a leotard.”

Same difference.

“Hmm, why don’t you try pulling back?”

As I said this, I grabbed Yuika’s arm.

“Uh? When did you… not moving…”

The moment Yuika said that, I felt a presence from my left, so I let go of her arm and crouched down.

Then, another sword passed over my head.

“That was dangerous.”

I hurriedly took some distance.

“Frank, what was that? It felt like every move was seen through.”

Yuika asked Frank with a dissatisfied expression.

“She’s your typical brain muscle. She says she practices martial arts.”

“I see…”

That Frank.

He’s gotten close with a girl.

“Cedric, what’s that about her?”

“Just as it looks. She’s a user of the same enhancement magic as you. She once tore apart an automaton with those twin swords and made Jenny cry.”

What a bad student to make a teacher cry.

“Hmph. She needs to be punished.”

“Huh? That line feels like déjà vu… like someone said that before.”

Was it Toko?

“It’s just your imagination.”

“Hmm? By the way, the scent is the same… huh? Wait a minute?”

Is this guy a dog…?

“I won’t hit you, but I’ll be your opponent.”

Saying that, Yuika, who had been crossing her arms and pondering, lowered them.

And then, still expressionless, she stared at me vacantly.

“Take it easy.”

“She’s already in combat mode… such a Berserker. I always thought Japanese people were calm and gentle.”

Just as Cedric finished saying that, Yuika vanished.

“Is this going to be below now?”

As Yuika made a significantly low stance and slashed upwards, I moved to the side to dodge.

“If she jumps, she’ll look at my pants.”

As Yuika swung her other sword horizontally, I stepped back to avoid the strike.

“It’s a leotard.”

“You looked like you were the same. Pervert.”

I thought but…

When applying for high school he aimed low and took the entrance exam for a backup school, but he slacked off and played around too much, resulting in him failing the exam and becoming a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). As Tsukasa awkwardly navigated his way through the new school year, he accidentally ended up wearing a cursed bracelet that would kill him if left alone. The curse was so powerful that even his mother, a skilled curse breaker, couldn’t lift it. To remove the bracelet he had two options; cut off his arm, or use his immense magic power to break the curse. Thus Tsukasa enrolled in a modern magic academy in a parallel world to learn the curse-breaking magic he needed. And so began Tsukasa’s carefree school life, where his only talents were his magic power and martial arts skills.
