Chapter 235 Looting
Royal Sacred Crown University, King Campus.
During the night, in the corridors of the underground ruins, the walls burned by fierce flames showed dark marks. On the ground of the corridor, there was a charred corpse lying here, emitting green smoke continuously.
This was the White Chalk Tier Extraordinary Being, the vampire Claudius, from the mysterious society Eight Pinnacle Nest. After losing too many bats, unable to sustain his life, he was consumed by the injuries inflicted by the final bats. Flames erupted from within his body, burning him into smoking charcoal.
“This is the true leader of the Eight Pinnacle Nest, the boss above Thistle?” Standing beside the charred corpse, Nephnis muttered, covering her nose and mouth as she looked at the horrifying scene before her.
“It’s not certain if he’s the true leader, but based on the current information, it’s more likely that he isn’t. He might just be a high-ranking official, after all, he is only White Tier.” On the other side, Dorothy responded to Nephnis, while Vania sighed next to her.
“White Tier… This, this is a White Chalk Tier Extraordinary Being? Lord… I actually fought against a White Chalk Tier Extraordinary Being…”
Vania muttered in disbelief. Not long ago, she had never received any combat training. As a clerical nun in the Historical Records Office, she had no connection to extraordinary battles. She became an Extraordinary Being simply to improve her work.
Now, Vania had accumulated rich combat experience, fighting from commoners to apprentices to Black Tier and even White Chalk Tier. She could handle frontline combat, tanking and dealing damage, though she was still at the apprentice tier and remained a clerical staff member in the church.
Extraordinary Beings of the White Chalk Tier could already serve as senior deacons or ordinary bishops under the church system. Vania’s position in the church was barely equivalent to a junior deacon, as she mainly handled research with little actual power.
Usually, Vania would show respect to a senior deacon, and she wouldn’t dare to disrespect the priests conducting rituals in the church, let alone higher-ranking officials or bishops. Her position made it difficult to meet them.
‘Previously, bishops and senior deacons were almost impossible to see. I actually fought against a White Chalk Tier being like them… This is truly…’
Looking at the charred corpse, Vania felt a mix of emotions. She felt that since accepting Akka’s revelation, she seemed to have embarked on a path she never imagined.
“Um, Miss Dorothyia, now that the person is dead, how are my classmates?” At this moment, Nephnis asked Dorothy with concern, and Dorothy quickly replied.
“Don’t worry, they’re all asleep down there. Sister Vania, please take Miss Nephnis down to check on them, and make sure they’re fine. I’ll handle the scene here.”
Dorothy said to Vania, who immediately responded.
“Alright, but please hurry, Miss Dorothyia. We shouldn’t stay here too long.”
With that, Vania led Nephnis down to the lower level ritual hall, while Dorothy examined the charred corpse and began her looting plan.
“He burned so badly… Don’t burn anything else…”
Looking at the charred body of Claudius, Dorothy said anxiously, controlling two zombie puppets to search the corpse.
Fortunately, after checking, Dorothy found that the fire on Claudius’ body started from inside, and his clothes and outer skin hadn’t caught fire extensively. The blackened skin was cracked, with sparks and green smoke coming out. If the clothes had been fully ignited, it would have happened soon enough.
Thanks to the timely “rescue” by Dorothy’s zombie puppets, most of Claudius’ loot was recovered, including four sigils, three of which were “Shadow,” one of which was “Cup” and “Shadow.” None of these sigils were recognizable to Dorothy.
“These are all unfamiliar. Looks like I’ll have to pay for their identification.”
In addition to the sigils, there was also what appeared to be an Extraordinary Item pendant that Claudius used when hypnotizing Vania. There were also two test tubes containing dark red liquid, presumably used by Claudius to produce smoke to cover his escape.
Apart from these, Dorothy also found some Spirituality Storage Items, including “Cup” and “Shadow.” The “Shadow” Spirituality Storage Item was a silver coin, while the “Cup” Spirituality Storage Item was the syringe Claudius often used to heal himself. Dorothy found one, and according to her Spirituality Vision, the bl**d inside contained a high concentration of “Cup” energy, about 3 points. Such high-concentration “Cup” bl**d, combined with Claudius’ ability to draw bl**d, could allow him to recover quickly from injuries.
“Judging by how well he used it, it seems effective, but it relies on the vampire’s unique ‘bl**d-drinking recovery’ ability. Without such a similar ability, I can’t use it either. So for me, its usefulness is limited, just like any ordinary ‘Cup’ storage item.”
Looking at the syringe in her hand, Dorothy thought, then continued searching, eventually finding a Secret Transmission and 200 pounds in cash on Claudius.
“Why so little money… Is White Chalk so poor?”
Seeing the cash on Claudius, Dorothy complained, but thinking carefully, it wasn’t unusual for people not to carry much cash. Perhaps Claudius’ main assets were elsewhere.
“Come to think of it, I remember this guy had an office in the school. He used someone else’s identity to work there. If we search that place, we might find something useful.”
Dorothy thought, planning to visit the administrative building later to search his office.
After looting Claudius, Dorothy breathed a sigh of relief and took out her Magic Box to collect the corpses. After gathering the relatively intact ones, she scanned the area and saw several Radiance Lamps hanging on the web-like corridor and some small items glowing faintly at the end of the corridor under her Spirituality Vision.
“These guys seem to have raised the defensive measures to ensure the ritual goes smoothly. Collecting these should yield some good loot.”
Looking at the reinforced web corridor, which was now useless, Dorothy thought, then, with a spirit akin to Li San Guang, controlled the zombie puppets to dismantle the lamps, collecting three in total, one of which was particularly large. Additionally, Dorothy found a divination-blocking magical array with a silver coin-shaped “Shadow” Spirituality Storage Item and a stone fragment-shaped “Enlightenment” Spirituality Storage Item.
“Wow, the loot is quite rich. It looks like this venture won’t be a loss.”
After dismantling Claudius’ anti-investigation setup, Dorothy thought happily.
Then, she came to the second floor of the ruins, where she saw Nephnis carefully checking the sleeping students and Vania observing the desecrated Mirror Moon Statue on the altar.
“How are they? Are they okay?”
Arriving at the second floor, Dorothy asked Nephnis, who thanked her.
“They’re all still breathing, just deeply asleep. Thank you both for saving them.”
“Heh, you should thank yourself too. Without your persistence, we wouldn’t know what’s happening here.”
Dorothy laughed lightly, then walked over to Vania, who was carefully examining the desecrated statue on the altar, her brow furrowed.
“Sister Vania, have you ever seen such a statue before?” Walking slowly to Vania’s side, Dorothy asked.
