Chapter 258: Dark Demon Gradually Advances
Equations refer to equalities containing the unknown variable X.
It’s not some profound knowledge but rather a simple computational tool.
By solving equations, one can bypass the difficulty of reverse thinking and directly list equalities containing the desired quantities.
For basic equation applications, the most widespread example is the problem-solving of the “chicken-and-rabbit-in-the-same-cage” scenario.
Dark only quickly went over the knowledge he knew, and Professor Lily instantly understood!
She soon said, “A similar method is mentioned in the ‘Gniro Doctrine,’ though it hasn’t been systematized. Using this method indeed simplifies calculations. Although I won’t need it… emmm, could you go into more detail? Can you explain?”
Dark, however, asked curiously, “What is the ‘Gniro Doctrine?'”
Professor Lily: “An ancient sect that worships geometry. It’s likely turned to ashes now.”
Dark’s mouth twitched, “Mathematics doctrine?”
Subsequently, he followed Professor Lily’s request and delved deeper.
“Equations come in various forms; what I just covered was a linear equation with one variable. There are also linear equations with two variables, quadratic equations, and so on, which can be used to solve multiple unknowns…”
When discussing quadratic equations, one inevitably has to talk about powers, or “exponents.”
With the concept of “exponents,” one must mention “bases,” “indices,” “roots,” and so forth…
Dark spoke fluently, while Professor Lily listened attentively, gradually forming a foundational model of mathematical operations through their exchange.
The more he talked, the more amazed Professor Lily became.
From the introduction of the concept of “exponents,” she realized that some extremely complex calculations suddenly became much simpler when using “exponents.” The paths seemed to fold up, making the starting point and endpoint closer!
Clearly, this was a concept far beyond addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division!
Professor Lily originally just wanted to extract an algorithm like “columnar calculation,” but unexpectedly, she gained something even more significant.
She pondered carefully, suddenly taking out paper and pen from her drawer, writing down various complex problems out of thin air, then introducing the concept of “exponents,” and solving them with equations. The entire thought process was as smooth as silk, incredibly smooth.
“Superficial!”
She raised her face, blushing, only to find no one on the sofa.
…
To avoid going to the afternoon History of Magic class on an empty stomach, Dark chose to stop in time and leave early.
Seeing that Professor Lily could understand definitions and apply them broadly, Dark felt somewhat envious. Perhaps that was true genius!
Arriving at the cafeteria, he ordered a steak and meat pie, quickly finishing it in the nearly empty cafeteria before hurrying to the History of Magic classroom.
When he entered through the back door, the classroom was already full.
As usual, Wit and Robert sitting near the back door looked over curiously, surprised by his tardiness.
But Wit already harbored some hostility towards Dark and had given up on improving their relationship, so he didn’t say anything.
Robert, however, wasn’t as reserved. He immediately said, “Hey, where have you been? You’re late.”
Dark turned his head and smiled, “I was discussing some questions with Professor Lily.”
Robert: “Oh.”
Wit couldn’t help but ask, “Is it related to today’s lesson?”
“Yes.” Dark nodded and continued walking, quickly returning to his seat.
Not long after, the class bell rang.
Professor Ryan Hux, using a cane, walked in; he still wore the broken prosthetic limb, limping slightly, but his expression and overall aura were different from when he arrived.
Just a week of life at the Mana Academy had stripped him of his elderly demeanor, and his brows regained some firmness.
But what truly caught the students’ attention was his almost-bald head—his hair had grown back!
“Professor!”
A student from the Knight Academy in the front row couldn’t help raising his hand, “Your hair?!”
Professor Ryan Hux lifted his intact hand, swept his dark brown bangs back, and said proudly, “Theodore, you need to relearn what courtesy means.”
“Okay, Professor.” Theodore grumbled and sat down.
Professor Hux then said, “I just cooperated with Sister Carrian for an experiment. Oh, she calls that stuff ‘hair growth potion!'”
“Ah, a guinea pig…”
Dark in the last row blinked, thinking it might be better for Professor Hux not to get too excited yet.
If hair growth potions were that easy to research, there wouldn’t be so many bald heads among the nobles.
However, with thick brown hair and no beard, Professor Hux did look quite handsome.
After stepping onto the podium, Professor Hux continued from where he left off in the previous class, telling more war stories.
Unfortunately, since he retired due to injury during the peak activity of the Hero generation, he lacked firsthand experience. Although he was well-informed about these battles, they lacked the detailed nuances.
So he mostly talked about early campaigns, where humans had no advantage, and every victory came at a heavy cost, but each victory was extraordinarily significant.
In the previous two classes, he had focused on the victorious campaigns.
This class, however, seemed to take a different approach.
Fifteen minutes into the class.
Professor Hux said, “Victory and defeat are both part of war. We learn from victories and draw lessons from defeats. War history is also a history of sacrifice. I will always remember my fallen comrades and never forgive those who betrayed during the war!”
He seemed to recall something, quickly covering his mouth with a clenched fist, then calming himself and continuing, “The Battle of the Ghost Ox Tribe! A tragic battle in modern war history, almost causing the collapse of the alliance of races!”
The students in the classroom couldn’t help but focus their attention.
Professor Hux always delivered his lectures with strong personal emotion, which paradoxically made him more captivating.
Even Dark couldn’t help but listen intently.
The Battle of the Ghost Ox Tribe was a campaign that took place at the beginning of the signing of the ‘Treaty of the Hundred Races Alliance.’
The demon race of the Ghost Ox tribe sought aid from the alliance at that time.
After urgent discussions, the alliance immediately regarded it as a key battle symbolizing solidarity, dispatching a coalition army composed of four major races—beasts, elementals, dwarves, and humans—to rescue the Ghost Ox tribe.
And Professor Hux was right in the middle of it!
