Chapter 258: Is That Her?!
A streak of mist lingered in the sky as a graceful and elegant young girl descended from above on her Spirit Sword.
She has arrived.
The girl gently waved her delicate hand, retracting the Spirit Sword, and in her sight ahead lay a bustling, prosperous city filled with people.
“So this is where my Junior Martial Brother grew up, huh?”
She murmured to herself. With the Xuanyun Sect’s reputation, she could have effortlessly flown in on her sword, but she chose not to. This was influenced by Lin Nuo.
Keeping a low profile, staying close to the common people.
At the Xuanyun Sect, every disciple who arrived by sword had to land at the edge of the cliff.
However, there was one exception—when he returned, he always walked up the mountain instead of descending by sword.
And that person was Lin Nuo.
At first, she didn’t understand why Lin Nuo insisted on trekking up. Tianling Mountain was perilous and high, every journey exhausting. According to the sect’s rules, disciples could easily fly to the cliff’s edge and then walk into the sect.
She had even asked him about it once, and he simply replied:
“I am a different kind of firework.”
He didn’t clarify further, leaving her with this intriguing line to ponder.
It seemed that amidst a chaotic environment, he alone could maintain his poise. While other Xuanyun Sect disciples rode their swords down the cliff and into the sect, he chose to walk his own path.
This might look foolish or inflexible, but in reality, it was wisdom disguised as simplicity.
Her Junior Martial Brother’s skills undoubtedly set him apart among his peers. How could he possess such agile abilities? It was closely tied to his choice to trek up the mountain every time.
Trekking up was just one example; many similar cases indicated that he was adept at seizing minute opportunities to better himself.
Tianling Mountain, with its steep cliffs, posed a significant challenge that deterred many disciples, yet Lin Nuo persisted, using these experiences to sharpen his skills and attain his current nimbleness.
Then there was the habit. This little detail—always walking instead of flying—meant he preferred not to rely on such ostentatious methods for his return, choosing instead a low-key approach to climb Tianling Mountain.
Little details, little habits, ultimately stemmed from his disinterest in fame and a humble, unassuming nature.
If Lin Nuo were to return home, he would undoubtedly choose to land outside the city and then walk in—as an ordinary citizen, without guards, without an entourage.
Those with great strength and insight, like him, truly deserve admiration; even respected elders within the sect, despite their power, struggle to contain their grandeur.
Lin Nuo was someone worth aspiring to and learning from.
Liu Shuqin began to emulate Lin Nuo’s ways, starting with small daily actions, striving to keep a low profile and avoid being too eager for recognition.
So, she would start by landing her sword from a distance away from the city gate, then walking in without guards or troops, just like an ordinary citizen, avoiding any display of grandeur.
However, just as she blended into the crowd, she was recognized by those entering the city.
“Is that, the Liu girl from the Xuanyun Sect?!”
“Liu girl! It really is you! Do you remember me? You saved my hometown from beasts back then!”
“Great Bodhisattva Liu is here too!”
The people surrounded her, as if they encountered a pop idol, instantly blocking her path.
Liu Shuqin: “…”
I was just thinking about sneaking into town without a fuss, and here I am, attracting attention before I even entered!
Having long ventured down the mountain to help the righteous, she had accrued quite a bit of merit. Adding her gentle and understanding nature meant she was naturally respected by the people.
Yet, surrounded by two groups of people at the city gate, one crowd around her while another gathered a distance away, it seemed two factions were splitting the crowd attempting to enter the city.
Curiosity piqued, Liu Shuqin noticed the other group and wondered who had arrived.
“Excuse me, I need to get into the city. Please, can you make way?”
Liu Shuqin smiled awkwardly. She only wanted to enter quietly, not be hailed by the crowd! That would completely contradict her Junior Martial Brother’s philosophy!
It seemed that maintaining a low profile required a process of gradual accumulation. Having previously been overly eager for praise, she found it difficult to keep a low profile now.
If we were to discuss merits, her Junior Martial Brother was undoubtedly much higher, yet he managed to blend seamlessly with the crowd, making no special fuss—truly remarkable.
After much effort, Liu Shuqin finally made some headway as the two groups began to merge together.
She noticed the growing number of people around her.
Suddenly, the people in front of Liu Shuqin stepped aside, creating a path, and soon both groups converged together.
Each crowd encircled a central figure, and just as they joined, they came face to face.
In front stood a girl with mysterious silver-white long hair, who slowly turned around, and at that moment, Liu Shuqin laid eyes on her.
Both girls had the same thought spring up simultaneously:
Is that her?!
They froze, stopping in their tracks as the surrounding chatter continued, but their silence sealed an understanding between them.
Was this a coincidence?
No, it wasn’t mere chance.
After a moment of silence, Liu Shuqin finally spoke up:
“Shi Li, what a coincidence! What brings you here?”
“On a mission,” Qin Shili replied coldly.
“And you?”
“I came to visit a friend.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. So, Shi Li, what kind of mission are you on?”
“The Refining Demon Sect, Dark Alliance, and underworld movements are nearby. The Xuanyun Sect fears they might incite chaos, so I was dispatched to investigate.”
“Oh, Shi Li, that sounds tough! If you need any help, feel free to let me know. I’d be more than happy to assist you!”
Liu Shuqin smiled lightly as the two conversed casually on the surface, but each harbored their own thoughts.
“Make way! What are you all doing clustered together!”
The soldiers quickly rushed in to disperse the crowd that had formed at the city gate.
The people instantly parted, astonished to see two stunningly beautiful girls at the center.
They recognized them—Liu Shuqin and Qin Shili of the Xuanyun Sect! Not only were they powerful, but also revered as goddesses by the people.
One was gentle and benevolent, while the other was icy and aloof, both appearing like celestial beings. To set eyes on them was indeed a stroke of luck.
Leading soldier grinned broadly:
“Oh, it’s Liu girl and Qin girl! What a pleasure to meet you! I presume you both have come for the grand celebration at the Lin family?”
“Not at all!”
They answered in unison, their gazes sharp as blades, sending a shiver down the soldier’s spine.
What just happened? Did I say something wrong?
…
As guests continued to arrive at the Lin family mansion, the place buzzed with excitement.
Lin Nuo was reluctant to go home, but considering his mother might worry since she hadn’t seen him in a while, he knew he had to return.
“Why are you following me?”
“I’m here for the feast,” Luo Xiaoxue replied with a sideways smile.
