Chapter 27: Do You Want to Be My Disciple?
Time quickly slipped into the evening.
Gaia, who had passed out on the battlefield, had successfully woken up. However, Weirafiya and Yaser were still out cold. They probably sustained more serious injuries during the fight, so their unconsciousness ran a bit deeper.
“Looks like there was more going on than I thought. Where’s that man now? Is he still in the Royal Palace? I want to meet him.”
Gaia, upon awakening, listened to Ailin recount the events of the battlefield. He couldn’t believe there were such powerful beings in the world. Gaia couldn’t help but want to meet this man and see if he might take him on as a disciple, too. He wanted to get stronger!
“We don’t know where he went either.”
Aierjisi shook her head. Earlier, she and Yake had searched for that man, but he seemed to have vanished without a trace, as if he didn’t exist at all. They even asked the guards if they had seen him leave, but the answer was no.
“Well… maybe he’ll show up when the time is right. Just like that time he appeared on the battlefield and saved us. He could be waiting for the right moment to step in.”
Ailin thought for a moment and arrived at this conclusion. In fact, it made sense; that man was nowhere to be found, and he would only come forward when the time was right.
“This is so frustrating! That guy is playing hide and seek with us and doing it so well—it’s really annoying!”
Aierjisi, being a Little Princess, had never experienced this sort of treatment before. It was her first time having to search for someone and wait for them to show themselves.
“Alright, alright, don’t get mad. That man has no ill intentions towards us. Gaia, how’s your body feeling now? Are you feeling better? Is there anywhere that’s still uncomfortable?”
“Thanks, Ailin, but I’m feeling much better now. Are Weirafiya and Yaser still not awake?”
“Not yet. Let’s just say their situation is much more serious than yours.”
Yaser’s heart had been pierced directly. Although he was revived by Phoenix’s feathers, he was still unconscious. As for Weirafiya, she was still out. After all, she had gone berserk before, and whether she would recover here remained uncertain.
“I’m so sorry, everyone. If only I could become a bit stronger, this wouldn’t have turned out like this.”
“It’s not your fault, Gaia. You’ve done your best. If anyone is to blame, it’s those annoying Adrian People. If they hadn’t attacked, we wouldn’t be in this situation!”
“But it’s all my fault. I was the one who issued the attack order. If I had recognized the disparity in our strengths and chosen to hide inside the castle instead of going on the offensive, maybe things would have turned out better.”
Gaia looked at the current situation and felt overwhelmingly guilty, stubbornly believing it was all his fault.
“Enough already! Stop bearing all that guilt. It doesn’t do you any good to take on all that responsibility.”
Aierjisi stepped forward and delivered a swift chop to Gaia.
“What’s done is done. It doesn’t matter anymore. We’re all alive, right? We can’t keep dwelling on past mistakes. What we need to do now is work hard to improve ourselves and gain greater strength, only then can we stand up to those Adrian People without being suppressed.”
“That’s right. We need to look forward now. No matter how much we regret the past, it’s pointless, isn’t it?”
“True enough. I apologize; I was thinking too negatively just now.”
“Don’t think like that again. You’re a King. The fate of a nation lies in your hands. If you keep thinking so pessimistically, how can you lead?”
“Okay. Thank you all. I won’t think like that anymore. By the way, could someone please bring me something to eat? I’m feeling a bit hungry.”
Gaia patted his stomach; since breakfast, he hadn’t eaten anything else, and now he was starving.
“Feeling hungry, huh? You should have said so earlier! When I asked if anything was wrong, you kept quiet. I’ll go grab you something to eat; just wait here for a moment. Aierjisi, I’m leaving Gaia in your care for now.”
“Got it, got it. You go quick; I’ll take good care of your hubby! Ouch!”
Aierjisi covered her head, having just received a punch from Ailin. And it seemed the other had put some serious strength behind it; if she were a pure human, that punch might have split her head open!
“Sorry about that! Ailin just gets a bit shy sometimes.”
Gaia had to apologize on behalf of his wife. But he couldn’t blame Ailin entirely; Aierjisi shared part of the responsibility too—if she hadn’t called him “your hubby,” she wouldn’t have gotten punched!
“Sorry, I’m late.”
Suddenly!
Hearing that voice, Aierjisi and Yake quickly turned to the door, where they saw that man standing at the entrance looking at them.
“And you are?”
Gaia stared at the stranger, not recognizing him. He had only heard about this man from Ailin; he hadn’t seen him in person, making this their first meeting.
“Sorry for the first meeting; you were probably unconscious then. Just call me ‘Ghost.'”
“Ghost? Are you the talented person Ailin mentioned?”
Upon hearing the introduction, Gaia immediately pieced things together; this must be the skilled individual Ailin spoke of who saved them.
“Talented? Not really. I’m just a kind-hearted passerby. Now, I want to ask you: would you like to be my disciple? Your talent is quite promising! If you’re willing to learn from me, I can make you even more powerful.”
The man wasted no time and directly asked Gaia if he wanted to join him and Ailin as a disciple.
“I’d love to, but I need to wait a bit. I have some duties to settle before I leave this place.”
If Gaia didn’t have the responsibilities of a King, he would have agreed immediately. But unfortunately, he had to make sure everything was in place before he could leave.
“Not a problem. There’s plenty of time; just let me know when you’re ready. I’ll step out now and come back later.”
