Chapter 260: Writing
“From this point on, I realized that someone might have tampered with the instruments, and there are schemers within the church. However, I wasn’t too sure, so I kept quiet about it. Instead, I intensified my prayers and feigned studying the secret transmissions. When checking on the instruments, I would always close my eyes… It was only after seeing Kock’s unusual behavior this morning regarding the joint letter that I began to suspect him…”
After Vania finished speaking, she fell silent, feeling anxious. After listening to her words, Anrefus pondered in silence for a moment before speaking.
“Sister Vania, I have sent someone to investigate your background and recent happenings, and found no issues. Since the situation you reported is factual, and no problems were discovered in the scrutiny of you, your words hold sufficient credibility.
“Careful observation, calmness in changing circumstances, piety, and determination… I am glad that the Lord has an excellent servant like you, and I am glad you are one of us.”
Anrefus said earnestly, and Vania immediately responded humbly.
“Not at all, as a servant of the Lord, I am far from being excellent. There is still much I need to do…”
“You need not be modest in this matter. As I mentioned earlier, Sister Vania, your report has eliminated hidden dangers for the church, and the church will not be stingy with rewards for pious believers who have made contributions… Sister Anre, I have finished my questions; it is now your turn.”
Saying this, Anrefus looked over at the old nun, who had been silently standing by. She smiled at Vania and said.
“Sister Vania, the archbishop is already aware of your matter. As a reward, the archbishop has granted you a promotion to a mid-level deacon.”
‘Promotion…’
Hearing the old nun’s words, Vania blinked in disbelief. She had initially thought that she could get through this unscathed without being discovered, and that would be all that mattered. Unexpectedly, she now had a chance for a promotion due to her merits.
“Th-thank you very much for the archbishop’s grace. I will continue to dedicate myself to the Lord in the future.”
Vania placed her hand on her chest in thanks, and the old nun nodded and continued.
“Hmm… I hope you can continue to work hard. By the way, since your clerical level is to be promoted to mid-level deacon, in alignment with that, your extraordinary level will also be promoted to Black Earth Tier. You now need to choose a path from the Three Saints’ Paths as your promotion route. After you make your selection, we will prepare the corresponding ceremony to help you accumulate the remaining spirituality.”
“The Three Saints’ Paths?” Vania said in confusion, while Anrefus interjected.
“Ha, don’t get dazed at the Historical Records Office. Upon reaching the Black Earth Tier, extraordinary beings need to choose an auxiliary spirituality to confirm their paths moving forward. The Three Saints’ Paths are the three routes available for our church’s extraordinary beings to choose for their promotion.”
Anrefus explained, knowing full well that most of the extraordinary beings at the Historical Records Office are merely tools for operating instruments and studying secret transmissions, making it challenging for them to encounter opportunities for promotion. Many end up spending a lifetime as apprentices there, so they are not well-informed about the church’s internal progression structure.
“Sister Vania, by promoting to Black Earth Tier, you will need to choose an auxiliary spirituality from among the three paths as your route for future promotions, and these three paths correspond to the three saints.
“If you choose ‘Silence’ as your auxiliary spirituality, then you would be choosing the path of the Holy Father. If you choose ‘Stone’ as your auxiliary spirituality, then you would be choosing the path of the Holy Son. If you choose ‘Cup’ as your auxiliary spirituality, then you would be choosing the path of the Holy Mother.
“Unless under special circumstances, we generally choose paths based on our main faith. So, Sister Vania, can you tell me which of the Three Saints you primarily believe in?”
The old nun spoke in a calm tone, and after a brief pause, Vania replied.
“I have followed the teachings of the Holy Mother since I was young.”
……
Tivyán North Church, Green Shade Town No. 17.
In the quiet of night, Dorothy sat before her desk in her study, seriously flipping through the secret transmission obtained from Kock, a document that was originally stored in the church library, which Kock had gone to great lengths to steal.
Dorothy frowned at the text on the pages. She found it quite difficult to read this secret transmission because it was not entirely written in Prit Language… at least not all of it.
The language used in this secret transmission was similar to Prit Language but had differences. Many of the vocabularies were quite archaic, and Dorothy only recognized these terms when she was studying ancient Prit texts at Crown University. However, this was not a purely ancient Prit text because it also mixed in another language. Dorothy had some impression of this language—Imperial Language.
In the poetry of the King of Light and in the messages near the Mirror Moon Statue, Dorothy had seen Imperial Language, and now, the ancient secret transmission in her hand also contained many characters from Imperial Language, resembling a blend of ancient Prit Language and Imperial Language.
No, it can’t be called a mix because these two languages in the secret transmission are not written separately; a segment is written in ancient Prit, and another segment in Imperial Language, with the two fully intertwined and coexisting as if the writer considered them a singular language.
Faced with this situation, Dorothy was puzzled but also filled with faint guesses.
“Perhaps… this is a single language.”
Looking at the series of phonetic letters on the secret transmission, Dorothy murmured, noticing the similarities between ancient Prit and Imperial Language, suggesting they might be a singular language.
Or more accurately, Prit Language may have evolved from Imperial Language, and this secret transmission was written during a certain period in that evolutionary process, explaining why both the ancient Prit letters and the Imperial Language letters appeared mixed together.
“Prit Writing… is it derived from the Imperial Writing? So, does that mean… Prit was once the Empire referred to by Imperial Language? The empire created by the King of Light?”
Suddenly, such a thought flashed in Dorothy’s mind, but she didn’t rush to conclusions. Instead, she took out another book from her desk and opened it.
This book also contained a series of phonetic letters. Although not Prit Language, there were many similarities between the letters used.
This book was a foreign dictionary, belonging to Farano, a neighboring country across the sea from Prit, located on the Main Continent. Dorothy had borrowed it from the library, hoping to learn a bit of a foreign language for a new Dragon Roar.
Upon careful observation, both Farano Language and Prit Language used phonetic scripts with differences in letters but also many similarities. Even the vocabulary had many close ties, clearly indicating a linguistic relationship.
When comparing Farano Language with the Imperial Language in the secret transmission, similarities could also be found… even the differing letters in Prit Language and Farano Language seemed to have their origins in Imperial Language.
This means that if Prit Language is derived from Imperial Language, then Farano Language may also be derived from Imperial Language, suggesting that Imperial Language is the common ancestor of both modern major languages, Prit and Farano.
“So that means… ancient Prit is not the Empire, but rather a part of the Empire… and the Farano of the Main Continent also once belonged to the Empire…”
Murmuring this to herself, Dorothy then shifted her gaze to the world map hanging on the wall in her study, which depicted three continents, and she focused her attention on the Main Continent.
Based on the knowledge gained recently in the library and the news from newspapers, it seemed like all the languages of various countries on the Main Continent have some degree of similarity in phonetic scripts. Could it be that all these languages were derived from Imperial Language?
Could it be that the entire continent once lay under the reign of the King of Light, the land of the empire he created?
