Chapter 28

028 Dekan Announces School-wide Holiday

Dekan took another look at the current exploration progress.

[Objective 1: Academy Exploration exceeds 50%, Current Progress 26.4%]

[Remaining Time: 6 hours 22 minutes]

About 7% of the exploration progress was contributed by him and Cornelia.

If their teammates could continue working smoothly, they would likely hit the target one or two hours early.

But now, it was uncertain how much time they’d have left.

Because they had to consider if their teammates would mess up again in the coming hours.

At this rate, their pool party might be in jeopardy.

“Damn, let’s keep working; hopefully, we can gather some Boss Room intel.”

Life wasn’t easy, and Dekan sighed.

If they chose not to clear the Boss Room, they’d miss out on its significant exploration bonus.

In that case, to achieve Objective 1 (exploring the map), they’d need to explore more common rooms than usual to compensate for the Boss Room.

But once they conquer the Boss Room, Dekan and Cornelia wouldn’t have to waste time grinding through countless regular rooms.

“This exploration type Shadow World is heartwarming, but the rogue teammates’ actions are unpredictable…”

Dekan lamented.

Even a narrative or escape-based Shadow World would be better.

Other challengers’ inconsistent skill levels wouldn’t directly inflate Dekan’s workload as much.

“Making me work overtime, you might as well pair me up with an adversarial type…”

The most straightforward Shadow Worlds were adversarial ones.

No fighting against demons (PVE), just player versus player (PVP).

Eliminate all enemy challengers, and the job is done.

However, these types of Shadow Worlds were rare and had extremely high mortality rates.

There was even the possibility that incredibly powerful interdimensional magic card users could appear as enemies.

After leaving the broadcast room, Dekan and Cornelia sealed its door, getting ready to continue their work.

“Dekan, don’t you hear something?”

Cornelia suddenly focused her gaze in a certain direction and said.

“… Let’s check it out. But we should release the students first.”

Dekan trusted Cornelia’s perception.

Her hearing and sight far surpassed his.

It was class time now. If there was noise in the corridor, it was highly likely related to other challengers.

Demon Students had no tasks, unless forced out of class, they wouldn’t normally wander the hallways during lessons.

It was quite possible that other challengers were evading the Dean.

Or even being chased by the Dean, causing the noise.

If that was the case, all they needed to do was deactivate the Dean.

In a spacious corridor, a severely injured challenger was being hunted by the Dean.

His control-type magic cards and summoned creatures were desperately blocking the Dean, buying him a little time.

He staggered, swaying dangerously.

It seemed he was on the brink of death.

Originally, his challenge inside the classroom had failed, triggering the teacher’s killing mechanism, but he managed to escape by a stroke of luck.

While fleeing, he had the misfortune to encounter the Dean.

Even if he managed to retreat into a classroom now, in his current state, he wouldn’t be able to handle the teacher’s test.

He needed to get to the infirmary immediately.

Though he hadn’t completely given up hope for survival, his movements were becoming increasingly sluggish.

And the Dean had just wiped out all his summoned creatures, closing in on him in mere seconds.

He knew his fate was sealed.

Ever since encountering the Dean in the hallway, it was almost a done deal that he would die.

No matter how hard he tried to evade, it wouldn’t change the outcome.

In the end, his chest would be pierced by the Dean’s blood-soaked hand.

Everything was over.

He thought.

Just as he closed his eyes, ready to accept death…

The school bell for the end of class rang out!

The Dean: “¿”

The Dean’s hand froze mid-air, with an extremely odd expression.

This couldn’t be right, was the class period too short?

And it rang just as he was about to kill the truant?

But he had no choice.

According to the rules, it was now break time, and he couldn’t attack students anymore.

The challenger was even more bewildered.

He could see the task interface’s timer!

Break time wasn’t supposed to be now.

How did the dismissal music play?

This was way beyond mere luck; it was a miracle!

At that moment, two figures appeared from the end of the corridor.

They walked steadily, unhurried.

They didn’t look like students but more like leaders on an inspection tour.

They didn’t seem to notice the Dean at all as they calmly headed toward the challenger.

“My friend, you’re safe now!”

Dekan smiled and said.

He recognized the challenger’s face; he had seen him during the exam.

The challenger hesitated for a moment and glanced back at the Dean.

The Dean seemed to be in some kind of freeze state.

After confirming the Dean wouldn’t attack anymore, the challenger staggered toward Dekan.

“Is this Dean’s reaction… your doing?”

This challenger recognized Dekan and Cornelia.

These two had cleared the exam room.

When he saw the odd “Rescue Humans 101/3” on the mission list, he immediately thought of these two.

They were surely experienced high-tier challengers!

Anyway, he was saved!

“Who knows?”

Dekan just smiled and asked, “Are you headed to the infirmary?”

The challenger replied, “… Yes.”

“Then let’s go.”

Dekan pulled out a small vial of medicine from his pocket that he had obtained from the infirmary and handed it to him.

Then he supported the challenger’s arm.

The medicine could only ease his wounds; he still needed stitches at the infirmary.

If he could save someone easily on the way, Dekan saw no reason not to help.

After all, he was a kind-hearted youth.

“Thank you for saving me!”

The challenger expressed his gratitude and drank the medicine, instantly looking much healthier.

“Have you been to the infirmary?”

The challenger asked immediately.

Dekan: “Been there, five-star service.”

The infirmary had adequate medical supplies, but the Demon Doctor had some very dark obsessions and generally didn’t treat patients properly.

Even after Baron Bachel’s destruction, some remaining supplies could still be used.

The three walked through the corridor.

Dekan asked the challenger, “How did you get so badly injured?”

“I failed the challenge with my companion in the fourth-level classroom. In our final fight against that teacher, my companion created an opening for me to escape… but he… I think he has sacrificed himself in the music classroom… that accursed! Hellish classroom.”

The challenger’s expression slowly turned sorrowful and resentful, with tears welling up in his eyes.

Dekan nodded, understanding why “Objective 3: Perfect Disguise” had previously shown “5/6.”

Their six disguises were quite effective.

Unless they encountered demons with special abilities, it was probably only when they were killed and turned into corpses would they be discovered as humans.

But upon hearing the challenger describe the “hellish classroom,”

Dekan couldn’t help but feel curious.

Was there really a place in this school that could be called hellish?
