Chapter 28: The Precious Feathers of the Phoenix
“Yaser… Yaser… Yaser!”
Calling out Yaser’s name, Weirafiya awakened from her unconscious state.
“Yaser! Where are you?”
Weirafiya looked around the room she was in. Yaser was not by her side; she was all alone.
“Ah… Yaser…”
Once she calmed down, Weirafiya remembered that Yaser had been pierced by Titan’s sword, and his heart was gone. In a fit of rage, she had transformed back into her true form, determined to take down Titan, but somehow, she lost consciousness.
Did I manage to take down Titan in the end…?
“Oh? You’re awake?”
Just at that moment, Aierjisi and the others entered the room where Weirafiya was. They had come to check if she had woken up, only to find her already conscious.
“Aierjisi, can I ask what happened after I lost consciousness? Did I defeat Titan?”
“No.”
“What? I didn’t defeat him?!”
Upon hearing that Titan was still alive and she hadn’t killed him, Weirafiya felt utterly defeated, her determination to confront Titan flaring up.
“What do you plan to do? How about calming down a bit? Charging in like this won’t help, and besides, you don’t have a way to get there.”
Titan and his crew had returned to their base. To reach them, they’d either have to wait for the doors to open or find another way. Even if she did get there, Weirafiya would be alone against them.
“I can’t calm down! That scoundrel killed Yaser; how can you expect me to calm down? If Yake were killed, would you be so calm?”
Weirafiya erupted in anger at Aierjisi. How could one stay calm when their servant had been slain by Titan?!
“If Yake were killed, I certainly wouldn’t be calm. But Yaser isn’t dead; he’s alive and well.”
“Ah?”
Hearing Aierjisi’s words, Weirafiya froze.
What did she just say? She said Yaser isn’t dead? Really?
“Are you sure Yaser isn’t dead? You’re not tricking me, are you?”
Weirafiya looked at Aierjisi with suspicion. Yaser had been stabbed in front of her; how could he possibly still be alive?
“If you don’t believe me, why not see for yourself? But first, change back to your human form; in this condition, you can’t even walk in the Royal Palace.”
“Ah… that seems true. Please wait a moment; I’ll change back right away.”
Weirafiya spread her wings around her body, transforming from her phoenix form into her usual human appearance.
“Is this alright now? If he’s really alive? He’s really alive, right?”
Weirafiya fluttered in front of Aierjisi, gripping her shoulders and repeatedly questioning her.
“Rather than asking me, why not see for yourself? Come along with us. Yake, why don’t you find somewhere to rest for a bit? You must be tired from following me around the Royal Palace.”
“I’m fine; I’m your servant after all. This much isn’t tiring.”
Yake declined Aierjisi’s kind offer. Just running errands like this wouldn’t wear him out. If he felt tired now, how could he fight alongside her in battle later?
“Very well, that’s your choice. Anyway, come along with us.”
Aierjisi turned and led Weirafiya to another room, opening the door to find Yaser sitting on the bed, still recovering.
“Yaser! You’re alive! I’m not dreaming, right?”
Seeing her servant sitting on the bed, reading a book while he healed, Weirafiya pinched her cheek to confirm she wasn’t dreaming.
“I’m certainly alive, My Lady. Strangely enough, I felt like I had died back then, yet here I am now.”
Yaser was surprised himself. He was sure he had died, but somehow he was still alive.
“Because that man saved you. By the way, didn’t he approach you? He sought Gaia when she awakened.”
“That man? Who is he?”
Yaser tilted his head, confused about who Aierjisi was referring to.
“Of course, I’m talking about myself. Sorry for the wait; I just got here.”
As if summoned by name, the man walked in just as they were discussing him.
“Did you save my life? Thank you.”
“No need to thank me; if you want to thank anyone, thank your mistress—the blazing phoenix. It was her feathers that saved your life.”
The man explained how he had used Weirafiya’s feathers to save Yaser’s life.
“So my feathers have that kind of effect? I didn’t even know!”
“I also didn’t expect the young lady’s feathers to have such abilities.”
After hearing the man’s account, both of them were taken aback. So they had this kind of power?
“It’s understandable that you didn’t know. A purebred blazing phoenix like her is extremely rare. This method only works with the feathers of a purebred. So make sure to protect yourself, as each feather is worth quite a bit. There will likely be many unsavory characters looking to get their hands on them.”
People die for riches; birds die for food. Luckily, no one knew that Weirafiya was an exceptionally rare purebred blazing phoenix. If someone dangerous found out, they would surely try to obtain her feathers.
“Alright. Thank you! I will definitely protect my feathers and won’t let anyone have them unless I want to give them away.”
“By the way, why did it take you so long to arrive? Where have you been?”
Aierjisi folded her arms, questioning the man. Yaser had already woken up, but the man only now decided to come.
“Of course, I waited until both of you were gathered here before coming. It would’ve been quite bothersome to run back and forth.”
The man’s reasoning was unexpectedly simple.
