Chapter 265: Understanding the Fox
“Are you on a mission here?”
“Oh yes, but please rest assured, Sir Giant Dragon. Our task is merely to hunt those dream realm beings that your authority has driven away at the edge of your territory. Normally, no one dares to set foot in your domain. This time was an exception.”
Gregor immediately explained, answering Dorothy’s long-held confusion.
‘No wonder I can’t see anything when I enter the dream realm; they must be scared off by the dragon’s aura.’
Dorothy thought to herself. Under these circumstances, she would need more disguises if she wanted to explore the woodland. The giant dragon’s disguise scared all the monsters away, making it impossible for her to find them.
Just as Dorothy was about to say more, she suddenly felt that her disguise was nearing its limit and had to leave. She then said,
“Hunting? Then continue hunting with peace of mind. Next time, be more vigilant. You won’t always have such opportunities, little dog from the An Yin Bureau.”
With that, Dorothy spread her wings, taking flight. The fierce wind made Gregor and Little Fox unable to open their eyes, and Little Fox clung tightly to a tree root to avoid being blown away.
“Farewell.”
Murmuring, the black dragon that Dorothy had disguised flew high into the sky. As the wind subsided, Gregor and Little Fox could only see the vast figure rapidly disappearing in the distance.
“He… just left. What kind of existence is this dream realm dragon…” Gregor muttered, now extremely curious about the giant dragon’s origins. On the other side, Little Fox, who was fixing her messy fur, proudly chimed in,
“Hehe… You don’t know, do you, Sir Giant Dragon? He isn’t a dream realm being but a powerful ancient disguise within dreams.”
“What? That pose is a disguise? A dragon’s disguise… Is it real or fake…”
Hearing Little Fox, Gregor was stunned. If all the disguises in dreams were dragons, how powerful would such beings be in reality? They would at least be leaders of large societies…
“Of course it’s real! He told me himself! Don’t you believe me?” Little Fox puffed up her chest and continued wagging her tail before Gregor, exuding pride. After experiencing previous events, Gregor naturally believed her and thought to himself,
“This little fox isn’t simple. She witnessed the giant dragon’s arrival, and the dragon personally told her about it. This shows she has a close relationship with the dragon, so we shouldn’t offend her easily…”
“Believe, believe, believe. Since Miss Fox said so, I believe.” Gregor replied. Little Fox nodded after giving him a glance.
“Mm, that’s better. I think you’re quite responsible as a dog, just a bit slow. You know less about the dream realm than even a white dog. I wonder what the leaders of your Black Dog Bureau were thinking, sending someone with no basic knowledge to the dream realm.”
Little Fox said disdainfully. Hearing this, Gregor was somewhat angry, but remembering that she had a closer relationship with the giant dragon, he held his tongue. Seeing Gregor didn’t speak, Little Fox became even more excited.
“Though you’re a bit slow and lack experience in the dream realm, your luck isn’t bad. You met Sir Giant Dragon and me. I’ll reluctantly help you out. From today on, let’s cooperate. I’ll teach you about the dream realm, and you can run errands for me. We’ll work together around Sir Giant Dragon’s territory. Follow my lead, and I guarantee we’ll catch whatever—spirits or others—without having to compete with your colleagues.”
Little Fox continued explaining to Gregor, who was surprised by her offer. He found it hard to believe.
“Follow you? Work together in this area? And catch spirits and other things?”
“Of course! Although my disguise is slightly weaker now, I know the dream realm much better than you. I’m definitely stronger than any of your dream experts in the Black Dog Bureau. Think about it, if I hadn’t guided you to find Sir Giant Dragon, your dog colleague would have killed you long ago.”
“You and your dog colleagues hunt together, splitting a small amount of spirit energy among ten people. If you work with me, we split the results between two. We might give a small portion to Sir Giant Dragon as a gesture of respect. Who would benefit more?”
Little Fox argued convincingly. Gregor found her logic reasonable, and since Little Fox seemed very familiar with the dream realm and knew the giant dragon, her abilities were indeed trustworthy. Working alone in the dream realm wouldn’t violate bureau rules.
“Hmm… Miss Fox, what you said does make sense. But if we act freely on Sir Giant Dragon’s territory, won’t he…”
“Don’t worry about that. Think about what Sir Giant Dragon said before leaving: ‘Farewell, farewell!’ That means he doesn’t mind seeing us again. This is Sir Giant Dragon’s recognition of us. With his recognition, we can act freely in his territory.”
Little Fox explained, leaving Gregor bewildered.
“Yes, that’s how it should be understood. It felt like a normal farewell to me.”
“It is. Would Sir Giant Dragon say farewell if he didn’t recognize us?”
“But I feel…”
“Stop butting in. Are you closer to Sir Giant Dragon or am I? Do you understand Sir Giant Dragon better or do I?”
Little Fox directly pointed out, leaving Gregor speechless. Indeed, she seemed closer to the dream realm dragon.
“Mm… Since Miss Fox says so, then fine.”
After some consideration, Gregor agreed. Hearing this, Little Fox jumped happily.
‘Yes! Successfully recruited a follower! Finally, I have backup in the forest~’
Thought Little Fox joyfully. She was essentially leveraging the dragon’s authority to intimidate the Black Dream Hunter Group and dream realm beings. Having mastered this trick, she used it on Gregor. In fact, she had only met Dorothy’s dragon disguise once.
“Alright, let’s divide the spirit energy left by your black-hearted colleague. It looks like quite a lot,” Little Fox pointed to the floating spirit energy, while Gregor hesitated.
“This is Sir Giant Dragon’s spoils. Isn’t it inappropriate to divide it like this?”
“Oh, Sir Giant Dragon wouldn’t care about such a small amount of spirit energy. He must have left it specifically for us. Come on, let’s divide it!”
“Okay…”
Thinking it made sense, Gregor joined Little Fox in absorbing the spirit energy left by Jed and Thomas. The more he absorbed, the more he believed Little Fox. For a dream realm dragon, this amount of spirit energy might be insignificant. Not valuing it was normal.
With this thought, Gregor felt more at ease about absorbing the spirit energy. However, he didn’t know that Dorothy ignored the black dots because she didn’t understand dream hunting techniques and didn’t know what they were for.
