Chapter 29: The Beginning of Revenge

Chapter 29: The Beginning of Revenge

“How strange. Where on earth did those two run off to? Huh?”

Yin was still searching the streets for Aierjisi and Yake. However, trying to find them in the bustling Bield City was no easier than finding a needle in a haystack. Just as she contemplated how to locate them, the sound of an explosion nearby caught her attention.

From her years of battle experience, she could tell that the explosion was no mere accident; it had to be the result of someone fighting.

How dare anyone cause destruction in the esteemed City of Lord? Such actions were absolutely unforgivable. With a determined stride, Yin dashed towards the explosion’s origin.

“You two are… Number 114 A Wei and Number 117 Bin Bin? What happened? Why are you both so injured?”

When Yin arrived, pushing through the gathering crowd, she found her two subordinates, the guards responsible for maintaining the city’s order, lying on the ground. They were badly injured, and just the sight of them made her stomach churn. To confirm who was responsible for this outrageous act, Yin knelt beside the only conscious guard, Bin Bin.

“Lady Yin… it was that guy, the thief named A Jie, who did this to us…”

Before he could finish, Bin Bin lost consciousness and fell silent. Thankfully, he had managed to share the criminal’s lead with Yin before fainting.

“A Jie…”

Hearing the name, Yin frowned. She only recognized names of notorious thieves, but A Jie was someone she had never heard of. It seemed vital that she investigated this thief who dared to act with such impunity in Bield. He must have a death wish to attack the guards! If she didn’t put a stop to this, she might as well reverse her name!

Meanwhile, on the other side, the explosion had caused Aierjisi, who had initially planned to climb to the rooftop, to abandon that idea and head in the direction of the blast with Yake. As a result, they unexpectedly returned to the city.

“Wow, we made it back to the city just like that. Seems like the explosion pointed us in the right direction.”

“Indeed. But an explosion in the city, one so powerful that we felt it beyond the city limits… this doesn’t seem straightforward.”

Yake furrowed his brow. According to his adventurer instincts, the power of this explosion was no joke, and since it happened within the city, this incident surely had twists and turns.

“You’re right. Look.”

Aierjisi pointed at two groups of people passing by. Among them, two battered guards were being carried on stretchers to see the doctor. The wounds they bore were definitely not from knives or cold weapons; they were injuries that could only come from extreme heat.

“Wow. They actually went that far against the guards. It seems those two have some deep-seated grudge against someone else to be attacked so ruthlessly.”

Looking at the injured guards, Yake noticed smoke wafting from their wounds. What kind of vendetta could cause such brutality?

“No, I suspect it’s not a personal vendetta. I can smell it—the two guards have a lingering stench on them.”

Aierjisi frowned; she recognized that smell. It was similar to what Harker had when he was around, only much stronger.

“A stench? Where? I can’t smell anything!”

Yake sniffed the air upon hearing the Little Princess mention a foul odor. Yet, there was nothing that resembled a stench around.

“You won’t be able to smell it. This kind of scent can only be detected by someone with perception far beyond yours, like me. The stench, without a doubt, belongs to those Adrian People.”

“Adrian People? They’ve chased us all the way here? Are you kidding?! Should we run to Panimir and ally with the Ice Dragon Princess?”

Hearing about the Adrian People, Yake panicked. He still remembered the overwhelming power displayed by that guy, Gilbaris. If it weren’t for Aierjisi’s inexplicable defense against his attack back then, he would have surely been a goner.

“No. For now, it’s not necessary. The target of those Adrian People probably isn’t me. Don’t forget, they typically don’t attack civilians.”

The Little Princess shook her head. The Adrian People only acted based on mission objectives, and common folks were generally safe from their attacks.

“But those two guards were attacked by the Adrian People, right? Doesn’t that contradict your statement?”

Yake was thoroughly confused. First, they say the two guards had the remnants of the Adrian People’s stench on them, and now they say the Adrian People won’t attack civilians. What was going on?

“It’s likely that the one who attacked is someone who was granted power by the Adrian People. Harker was the same; he received their chaotic might. Is this what the City Lord sensed—a visitor to Bield City?”

Watching the injured guards being carried away, Aierjisi grasped the crisis the City Lord had mentioned.

“So, what do we do? Does this even concern us?”

Yake was at a loss. He had no idea if the enemy was targeting them, so naturally, he didn’t know what to do next.

“It seems it doesn’t concern us. That guy attacked the two guards, who have no relation to us. Thus, he isn’t likely to attack us, who are utterly unrelated.”

“Not our concern? Well, that’s good. If it were, I’d have to keep an eye out while sleeping, worried he might suddenly attack from under the bed.”

“Right now it’s not a concern. But it will be very soon.”

“Huh? Why’s that?”

Yake looked dumbfounded at the Little Princess. Why will it soon concern them?

“Because I’m going to intervene in this matter.”

“You’re going to intervene? But isn’t this event unrelated to you? Why would you step in?”

“I have two reasons for stepping in. First, this incident is inextricably linked to the Adrian People. Second, we’ve received the City Lord’s goodwill, and as repayment, I’ll help him resolve this issue.”

“Pfft.”

Upon hearing the Little Princess’s rationale, Yake couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

“You’re actually going to repay someone? I thought you were the type of queen who is cold and indifferent to everyone except me.”

Recalling Aierjisi’s attitude toward thieves, he had thought she was the kind of person who was ice-cold to everyone else.

“Do I seem like that kind of person? Even I have moments when I repay others’ kindness, you know? Do you see me as a cruel ice queen?”

Aierjisi looked at Yake, puzzled. Had she ever shown such a personality?

“I think so. Your attitude towards thieves clearly shows you don’t view them as humans.”

“Of course! I despise those petty thieves the most. They have hands and feet but still opt for theft. What? Are you sympathizing with them?”

“Not at all! I hate thieves too. One moment of inattention, and my rewards get snatched away.”

When it came to thieves, Yake shared Aierjisi’s disdain. But honestly, her behavior toward them was something he couldn’t accept.
