Chapter 295: The Situation Got Out of Hand for a Moment~ (Please Subscribe!)
At Finn’s signal, Bers began to order a full lockdown of Rivira Town.
The mighty dwarves pushed the large boulders placed before the archways to both the North and South gates, blocking the two exits so no one could enter or leave.
The town adorned with blue-white crystals had now turned into a cold prison, spreading unprecedented unrest and动摇 within the small town.
“Finn, I still can’t quite understand. It’s been an entire night already; what’s the point of locking down the place now and gathering everyone? If it were me, I would’ve long fled by now…”
After Finn and Izay came out from the crime scene, Bers received the signal.
Though he had his subordinates follow through on the orders, he hadn’t been informed of the details, leaving him somewhat confused about the current situation.
Hasana had died last night, and they only discovered it after half a day had passed.
Locking down the area now was clearly too late, right?
Understanding Bers’ confusion, Finn took the moment when the people of Rivira Town were gathered to explain:
“Did you see the secret document on Hasana’s body?”
“That paper mostly stained with blood? Yeah, I know, a secret guild quest, right?”
From the few legible words on the quest sheet, they inferred that Hasana had accepted a secret mission to collect something unknown from the thirtieth floor. This item might be what the murderer sought.
Bers had also considered this point. However, he didn’t know the exact content since the quest sheet was almost entirely soaked in blood.
“Did you notice the state of the backpack?”
“Ah, torn up as if it was deliberately destroyed.”
“What are they talking about?”
While Finn explained to Bers, Tiona couldn’t help but interject her doubts, occasionally glancing at Izay.
After all, it was he who had entered the crime scene and investigated with Finn just now.
Noticing the little angel sneaking peeks, along with Ais and Refia looking over curiously, Izay thought for a moment before saying,
“It’s a mission. Hasana obtained something the murderer wanted, wasn’t that already mentioned?”
“Hmm.” Tiona nodded obediently.
“But the murderer seems not to have succeeded.”
“Not succeeded…? That does make sense—thinking back to the situation at the crime scene, the destruction left behind by the murderer seemed less like haste and more like sheer anger.”
“Yes, in the end, the murderer couldn’t find what they wanted, got angry, and proceeded to destroy the body and the bag. That’s how it went.”
Upon hearing Izay’s words, Riviria’s emerald green eyes flashed with understanding.
“This kind of temper… feels kinda like Tione, huh~”
“I am NOT that exaggerated, okay!? Don’t compare me to the murderer!”
Ais watched from the side as the two sisters bickered and shouted as usual, while Refia looked completely bewildered.
She hadn’t even seen the crime scene, so it was difficult for her to understand.
“Wait! So the thing the murderer killed for hasn’t been obtained yet, meaning she is probably still…!?”
After arguing with her sister for a bit, Tione suddenly realized.
“Ah, she should still be lurking somewhere in the town.” Izay said.
“I think that person is definitely still in the town… though it’s just my intuition.” Having finished explaining to Bers, Finn licked his right thumb.
That was why he had ordered Bers to seal off the small town and gather the adventurers earlier.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Bers’ expression became solemn.
Under this solemnity, Bers’ legs unconsciously moved closer to Finn.
There’s no way around it. With an assassin of Level 5 possibly lurking nearby, his subconscious action to seek safety was simply a sign of valuing his life.
It was instinct!
Coincidentally, Izay noticed Bers trying to hide his inner panic with seriousness and couldn’t help but admire silently.
‘Your awkward attempt to seek safety near Finn may look clumsy, but your serious act of pretending not to be scared is truly cool!’
Give props to the town boss!
Subsequently, everyone began moving toward the center of Rivira Town, the Crystal Plaza.
That was where all adventurers were supposed to gather.
In the widest location of this small town, all adventurers gathered in the square surrounded by crystal stands and beach vendors.
In the center of the plaza stood a pair of massive blue-white crystal pillars like twins, and among them, Hasana’s personal belongings, including the bloodstained full-body armor, had been brought here.
“As long as we can find a first-class adventurer other than you guys from this pile, then that must be the murderer!”
“The person is likely not a fool. To reach that level of skill, their ability to conceal themselves must be pretty high.”
Standing under the twin crystals together, Bers expressed a rather optimistic view, whereas Finn gave a more realistic response.
And with so many people, it would surely take a lot of effort to check them all.
Rivira Town was a base for upper-level adventurers inside the labyrinth, always bustling with people. Right now, the number of people in the Crystal Plaza easily reached five hundred or more.
However, thanks to reliable eyewitnesses and Bers himself having seen the “murderer,” it was confirmed that the culprit was a woman.
Thus, the primary inspection target was female adventurers.
Still, there was a possibility that the culprit might disguise herself as a man, so Bers and his team would also search among the male adventurers.
Soon, the adventurers were divided into male and female groups, each led to one side. Among the approximately two hundred female adventurers, many were Amazons.
These female warriors all proudly held their heads high, declaring their innocence. On the other hand, some beastgirl teenagers blushed shyly upon hearing they would be checked, shrinking their shoulders and twitching their tails nervously.
Finally, when the elven girls learned that the princess of the royal family (Riviria) would personally inspect them, they all let out “yaah!” screams and turned mysteriously red-faced.
As one of the top-ranking heroes in Orario, Finn was naturally surrounded by a group of ladies, all young-adult enthusiasts.
Many women also glanced at Izay, but upon seeing the blonde girl standing beside him, they quickly suppressed any bold thoughts in their minds.
Can’t compete, can’t compete,溜了溜了~
“Something feels off about those elves’ enthusiasm… They seem to have fallen into some kind of misunderstanding…”
“Hmm… I don’t know…”
Unaware that he had missed a potential福利环节, Izay was enthusiastically chatting with Ais.
The two of them gloated at the embarrassed shop owner surrounded by the elven girls, causing Refia nearby to nearly cry in frustration.
With such antics, the atmosphere on the scene lost its tension.
The situation got out of hand for a moment~
Yet they did not relax because of it.
While gloating, Izay kept his attention on the entrance of the plaza.
Among the slightly noisy crowd, he successfully spotted a familiar suspicious figure as expected.
