Chapter 296: The Great Elder Hall, the Elders’ Hall.
“Hurry up and take on the commission to hunt the Thousand Blade Dragon. Those weaklings might as well become our strength instead of turning into bones by natural selection.”
Though the Thousand Blade Dragons that were eliminated were just the weaker ones in society, for hunters, their whole body armor was very valuable for crafting equipment.
They could use the materials from the weaker ones to defeat stronger foes.
The young hunter in the team, a human, had eyes shining with excitement, yearning for fame, wealth, and power. And this yearning came from courage.
The Thousand Blade Dragon was a monster not yet announced to the public by the guild, meaning there were no records of its slaying. Being the first team to slay a Thousand Blade Dragon would certainly make them famous.
Since the Thousand Blade Dragon is a powerful flying dragon species, even the weaker individuals are still strong flying dragons.
People always have a single impression of monsters and find it hard to distinguish between the powerful and the weaker parts.
The other hunters in the team did not stop the young hunter’s outburst; they shared the same thoughts.
“No way, the Thousand Blade Dragon has always been an unannounced monster. Every monster-hunting commission must be based on complete intelligence.”
“We need to understand the ecological niche of the Thousand Blade Dragon, judge the impact of their activities on nature, and summarize the distribution of organisms in a region…”
The female dragon person receptionist looked younger than the hunters but showed maturity when explaining her work, making it hard to guess how many times older she might be than the hunters.
“Young man, physical prowess is commendable because it protects our present, but don’t let it cross the line.”
The Great Elder’s kindness carried a hint of mockery, warning, and tolerance for rashness.
The hunters quieted down, showing respect to the Great Elder, accepted some special commissions assigned to their team, and left.
“Another reckless youth, but didn’t we all go through this?”
The elders in the Elders’ Hall laughed, remembering their own reckless pasts. The balance between humans and dragon people was constantly being harmonized here every day.
Jié Jié quietly listened to these conversations, carefully observing each commission passing between the receptionists and hunters. Even if he couldn’t understand all the terms, he could identify them from the monster totems on the commission forms.
Some hunters glanced at him, dragon people occasionally smiled at him, and the Great Elder even extended his hand, wanting to treat this eagle that mistakenly entered the Great Elder Hall as a distinguished guest.
Jié Jié didn’t go over, but he noticed the Great Elder kept staring at him, unblinking, making him think he had been caught out somehow.
Until he heard the dragon ministers betting on who would blink first between him and the Great Elder, realizing the latter was trying to outlast him in a staring contest.
Too stupid, he wasn’t going to do that, so he continued listening and observing the dynamics in the Great Elder Hall. The Great Elder, finding it uninteresting, moved his eyebrows and shifted his gaze.
Monsters in the commissions were either repelled, killed, captured, or rendered harmless.
Monsters battle with strength, and the balance implemented by the Guild isn’t shouting at monsters. Just like a thousand years ago, the Black Dragon destroyed the Suildred Kingdom with pure force, and the Guild also balances things with martial power.
Intelligent beings can be arrogant and greedy, but their desire for order leads them to self-restraint.
Letting these strong hunters enter the administrative institutions of the dragon people is not only about promoting martial prowess but also about restraining the human desire for power.
Most dragon people cannot become hunters, but among humans, many powerful hunters are born.
Balance is not political correctness; it’s mutual elimination and acceptance. There needs to be something disagreeable to require balance.
A familiar set of footsteps echoed up the stairs and reached Jié Jié’s ears.
He saw a large group entering the Great Elder Hall, causing the busy people inside to look around curiously.
“Long time no see, Great Elder, long time no see, Great Elder Hall.”
The Compiler looked at the familiar surroundings, unable to contain his emotions.
“Welcome back, news from Loke Clark said you had quite a few interesting stories on your way back. Their president even suggested I shouldn’t read the contents of the letter.”
The giant dragon person stood up, supporting himself with an old sword and laughing.
With a slight wave of his hand, the hunters respectfully retreated, transforming the open Great Elder Hall into a strict confidential administrative institution.
Things worth discussing about the New Continent, and matters encountered along the way, were discussed from the afternoon until dinner time.
Tables were set up, dishes and wine placed before everyone.
The Great Elder glanced again at the eagle who refused to engage in a staring contest, thought for a moment, and then had some food favored by eagles brought in.
The Great Elder Hall was located high up, and occasionally birds would mistakenly enter. Even affectionate forest rabbits would come to beg for food. As a race close to nature, the dragon people enjoyed playing with animals during their administrative breaks.
In other words, dragon people strongly support keeping pets in the office.
“Gugugu.”
Jié Jié hesitated for a moment, then flew down from the beam, drawing gasps of admiration from everyone. What a proud eagle.
Everyone ate and talked at the same time. Dragon people usually eat little. The Compiler ate while speaking, and the dragon ministers had already finished eating and started working.
A map was laid out in the center, allowing them to mark various encounters along the way.
“The pioneering efforts of the Ancient Dragon Investigation Team need the fire of passion. The second phase team needs technically skilled talents with ambition. I trust the recommendation of the President of Loke Clark.”
The Great Elder nodded to the bald young man, and the designated leader of the second phase team nodded in response.
“Then Dongduoluma can provide technical talent aside from monster hunters and managerial talents.”
The giant dragon person’s gaze fell on one of the relatively young senior dragon ministers.
The dragon youth was tall, wearing standard scholar robes, with glasses that exuded intellect, smiling politely at the Compiler.
Jié Jié raised his head, narrowing his eagle eyes. Compared to the human leader of the second phase team, the dragon youth leading the survey class seemed not much different from the future, except he had fewer white hairs.
The dragon youth raised his head and greeted the Great Elder, approached the map, flipped through his books, and drew a direction marker that Jié Jié found somewhat familiar.
It was seen on the map in the Ancient Dragon Observation Station.
“In the observation of many ancient dragons, the most likely candidate for migration is a Flame King Dragon residing in the Naguli Volcano Cluster.”
“He migrated away from his territory several months ago, and the Ancient Dragon Observation Ship is continuously tracking him.”

When you see a mighty male fire dragon soaring through the sky, you can't confidently say it’s truly a fire dragon—because it might have been a rare silver fire dragon before you noticed it.
If you suspect it was a silver fire dragon, it could have been a spinosaurus even earlier.
When someone tells you it was once a spinosaurus, you still can’t be sure—because before others saw it, it might have been an elder extinction dragon.
You may feel certain it’s a flying dragon by now, yet you can't assert that either—because underground where you can't see, it might actually be an ancient mountain dragon.
So, what is it really?
In the beginning,
It was just a hairy spider.
