Chapter 276: Appetite
Inside the Feiteng Theater, the performance continued. The audience was taken by surprise as dancers, who were supposed to be on stage, leaped down and danced among them, creating an intimate connection with the spectators.
The audience, who had felt increasingly bored due to Adele’s long absence, suddenly found their spirits lifted by this unexpected sight. They had never seen dancers leave the stage to perform in the aisles.
Dressed in white costumes, the dancers frolicked through the aisles, interacting closely with the audience, which amazed and excited many. Some spectators who were seated farther away stood up to catch a glimpse of the dancers who had entered the audience area. The atmosphere in the theater grew even more lively.
Clearly, the audience perceived this as a unique program that creatively interacted with them. Although many seated on the inner side of the auditorium may not have been able to see the dancers up close, the special guests in the box seats had an unobstructed view of the scene below.
“I must say… the women Adele trained can really dance. Some segments are quite innovative,” Byron remarked slowly from the comfort of his box seat while munching on various delicacies from the luxurious spread on the coffee table.
‘If it weren’t for the complications that would arise when I leave, and my need to ascertain Adele’s situation, I would have figured out a way to escape through the window… But thankfully, the snacks here are quite good, and a few of these performances are rather novel. Staying to watch isn’t a loss…’
Byron thought to himself. His task had already been completed when Maria was “killed” in the bathroom, and for safety, it was best to evacuate immediately.
However, due to soundproofing, the entire theater was quite sealed during the performance, with all doors and windows closed. To leave, he would either need to break the glass or exit through the heavily guarded main entrance, which would inevitably leave traces and lead people to believe he was the escaping murderer. This would not only hinder framing Adele but could also bring trouble upon himself.
Thus, Byron chose to stay and continue watching the show, keenly observing the effects of Maria’s d*ath and viewing his own results. After all, he was completely absent when Maria “died,” with ample proof of his absence, making it impossible for anyone to link the investigation back to him.
So, Byron contentedly took in the performance while awaiting the end of the show, anticipating the detonation of the public opinion bomb he had crafted.
Before that, he was happy to nibble on delicious snacks while enjoying the show.
“The snacks at this theater taste pretty good…”
After finishing a small cake, Byron sighed with a hint of sentiment. The snacks tasted excellent, far surpassing those at some high-end restaurants he frequented. He hadn’t expected to find such delicious desserts in a theater.
‘What delightful treats! The only thing that can compare to these is the bl**d food from the club.’
As he munched on the sweets at the table, Byron’s pace quickened. He started grabbing the delicacies and shoving them into his mouth, exhibiting a gluttonous demeanor.
While rapidly devouring the treats, he fixed his gaze on the dancers in the audience. Despite many dancers performing in the aisles, all dressed alike, Byron’s attention was solely on one.
She was the dancer positioned along the central aisle of the audience. Although she wore the same white costume and half-mask and had her hair styled identically to the other dancers, she moved with distinct differences.
Her movements were more powerful, precise, faster, and more difficult than the others, attracting more attention. As she danced, the other dancers inadvertently began to surround her, accompanying her performance.
Originally a group dance with no designated leader, it gradually featured a star as all the dancers circled around this one standout performer. Her superb skills not only astounded onlookers but also sparked their imaginations.
In the box, Byron’s eyes were glued to this dancer. He began to hastily grab more snacks from the coffee table and stuff them into his mouth, realizing the food tasted increasingly delicious and that his stomach felt more ravenous than ever.
Byron’s speed of grabbing food increased, going from one hand to using both. He carelessly shoved the snacks into his mouth to satiate his growing hunger. His bizarre behavior caught the attention of a nearby servant, who quickly approached to intervene.
“Master Byron, your behavior seems concerning. Please stop immediately…”
“Get lost!”
Byron roared at the interruption, then violently swatted his hand, sending the servant flying against the wall, where his bones broke upon impact.
After shoving the servant away, Byron suddenly seemed to realize something was off. He paused for a moment, conflicting thoughts rushing into his mind as he clenched his jaw and held his head, thinking,
‘Something’s not right! Why is this food suddenly so delicious? Why am I so hungry all of a sudden? It wasn’t like this before! These snacks were just normal snacks! It was only after the dancers came among the audience that they became this tasty… or rather, perhaps I suddenly became this hungry! It’s those dancers!’
Byron thought to himself, but even as he acknowledged something was amiss, his hands continued shoving food into his mouth, his eyes glued to the dancers still performing in the audience, particularly the one in the prominent position whose moves were significantly more exceptional than the others.
Among the audience, countless eyes were also fixed on the dancer, captivated by her extraordinary performance, with some shouting loudly from their seats.
“Adele! Adele! Adele!”
Soon, the cheers for Adele echoed throughout the venue, and as the audience chanted, the dancer finally removed her mask and let down her hair, allowing her golden locks to cascade down like a waterfall. Adele’s face reappeared before everyone.
As Adele reemerged, the entire venue erupted. Waves of excitement surged through the audience, and the deafening cheers completely drowned out the music.
In the box, Byron, still gorging himself, couldn’t help but feel enlightened.
‘So that’s Adele… I am influenced by her, which is why my appetite has surged uncontrollably…’
