Chapter 307: A Unique Town
Lin Nuo had been recuperating under the care of Qin Shili for a few days, and his condition had improved slightly—his limbs could move a bit.
Walking was still exhausting; he was better off lying still.
Qin Shili didn’t require any financial compensation or material rewards from Lin Nuo. Just sharing meals, sleeping, and bathing together every day was enough for her.
After spending some time indoors, Lin Nuo requested to get some fresh air, and Qin Shili readily obliged.
Her family had a finely crafted wheelchair, made by a skilled carpenter—smooth and comfortable. She helped Lin Nuo sit down and then pushed him outside.
The town was quiet, with simple folk. Each townsperson seemed ordinary, yet some had peculiar backgrounds before moving here.
A farming couple returning from the fields spotted Qin Shili and greeted her warmly:
“Miss Qin, Young Master Lin! These are the fresh vegetables we just harvested. We’ll bring them by your residence later, so please have a taste!”
“No need; growing them isn’t easy for you,” Qin Shili replied.
“No, we had a bountiful harvest this year. Please don’t refuse, Miss Qin and Young Master Lin!”
“Do you think we should accept them?”
Qin Shili looked at Lin Nuo and asked.
“If they bring them, why not? What’s the point of passing them around?”
“Alright.”
Qin Shili nodded and addressed the couple,
“My family defers to him; just deliver them later.”
“Understood! Miss Qin, you truly are a virtuous wife!”
The farmer couple chuckled as they left with their cart full of vegetables.
Lin Nuo felt the atmosphere was strange.
What did they mean by a virtuous wife?
It made her sound like a good wife, caring for her fragile husband.
“They just called us a couple,” Lin Nuo commented.
“Do you mind?”
“I don’t, as long as you don’t.”
“Well, that’s good! Given that we share a residence, sleep in the same bed, and enjoy baths together, being seen as a couple is quite normal,” Qin Shili said nonchalantly.
“Is there a fish pond around? I want to fish.”
“You want to fish in a pond? If you want fish, I can have someone buy some, and I’ll cook them for you. Just be ready to eat!”
“No, I prefer to fish in a pond.”
“There isn’t a pond, but there’s a river nearby where there are plenty of fish. I’ll take you there and prepare fishing equipment for you.”
Qin Shili turned the wheelchair towards the river she mentioned.
Along the way, Lin Nuo encountered many townsfolk who appeared to be simple, greeting Qin Shili with friendly hellos.
Yet, he felt some faces seemed familiar, akin to when he met Ling Huang Xian, feeling that it was Yu Sha the Blood Mage. He had instinctively dismissed those thoughts back in the Zifeng Valley.
Now in this little town, the same feeling arose; some townfolk looked like those he had crossed paths with in a past life. However, having so many quarrels in that past life made it hard to remember everyone.
“What’s the name of this town again? I forgot.”
“Li Chu Town.”
“Li Chu Town…”
Lin Nuo paused, some information flickering in his mind.
Qin Shili had mentioned this town’s name before, but he hadn’t remembered it upon arriving, muddled as he was.
Now hearing the name confirmed his initial instinct.
These townsfolk he had indeed met in a previous life.
Of course, it wasn’t like he had visited for leisure and fishing, but rather some residents had hidden identities, and others moved on to extraordinary paths after leaving Li Chu Town.
For instance, he just met a pig farmer who was actually a berserker whose axe could fell mountains.
But he had been slain.
Then there was a florist who was a renowned puppeteer, capable of controlling puppets.
But he had been slain too.
And the cart pusher? An infamous shadow assassin with countless bounties on his head.
But he too had been slain.
Realizing this, the town felt like a nest of enemies.
Now everyone looked like they were hiding daggers behind their smiles; who knew what schemes they were plotting underneath?
If he were the great demon in his past life, sitting in a wheelchair, it was a given that a mob would have come at him with knives!
How terrifying!
But now there was no need to panic; according to the timeline, these people were still living peacefully in the town.
As for why they ventured out?
Lin Nuo thought there must have been some event that led to the town’s peace being shattered.
What could it be?
He couldn’t recall; memories were fuzzy, intertwined, and chaotic—he simply could not pin them down.
As for the timeline? Even more vague; he didn’t know when the event had triggered.
But it didn’t affect him much; after all, he was just taking a breather here for a few days and wouldn’t be unlucky enough to coincidentally run into the incident.
Qin Shili cautiously pushed Lin Nuo’s wheelchair along the path to the riverside, where the grass was lush, and the wheelchair was moving at a slow pace.
She was careful, keenly watching for pits or bumps, not wanting to make Lin Nuo uncomfortable.
“Does Li Chu Town have any particular significance?” Lin Nuo asked.
“It’s just an ordinary town; there’s nothing special about it.”
“Is that so?” Lin Nuo replied, half skeptical.
“Yep! My father thought this place was beautiful, with clear mountains and rivers, so he bought the management rights and even built a residence here for the Qin family to vacation and rest. I heard it was originally a village that gradually developed into a town as more outsiders came.”
“Do the townsfolk have any unusual pasts?”
“I’m not sure; the Qin family manages many areas, so we can’t delve into everyone’s backgrounds. Besides, Li Chu Town has been stable for years without any major incidents. The townsfolk follow the rules and pay taxes. Do you have any thoughts?”
Qin Shili countered Lin Nuo’s question.
Lin Nuo shook his head:
“No, just curious. I see the river now.”
“Yep, we’re almost there.”
Soon, they reached the river’s edge, and Qin Shili stopped pushing the wheelchair.
She said,
“Just wait here for a moment. There are fishermen nearby; I’ll go borrow some fishing equipment and be back soon.”
“Okay.”
Lin Nuo nodded. There indeed were fishermen’s houses around. Qin Shili walked over lightly to borrow bait, fishing rods, and all the necessities.
Under a tree nearby, Lin Nuo enjoyed the cool breeze. It felt refreshing to get some fresh air after being cooped up inside.
The river was not far away, crystal clear, and he could faintly see the colorful fish swimming about—countless in number.
The fish here certainly outnumbered those in a pond; it looked like today would be a fruitful day.
The breeze was pleasant, and Lin Nuo leaned back in his wheelchair, closing his eyes to rest.
“Ah! Young Master Lin, what a coincidence!”
Suddenly, Lin Nuo heard a familiar voice and opened his eyes.
To his surprise…
Was that Great 威天龙?
