Chapter 308: I Guess Your Identity
Behind Lin Nuo stood a girl with a brilliantly sunny smile.
As the breeze blew, she gently brushed her long hair aside and walked lightly towards Lin Nuo.
In this clear blue sky, on a day filled with fresh air and scenic beauty, seeing the one she cared for felt like a long-awaited reunion, brimming with excitement.
“It’s me, Young Master Lin. Don’t you recognize me?”
Luo Xiaoxue paused in front of Lin Nuo, flipping her hair and smiling softly.
“What brings you here?” Lin Nuo asked.
“Me? I happened to pass by here and just so happened to run into you, Young Master Lin. Isn’t that fate?” Luo Xiaoxue squinted as she smiled.
“This place is thousands of kilometers away from the Lin family estate. You just happened to pass by?”
“Exactly, I just happened to pass by. The distance makes the meeting even more fateful!”
Luo Xiaoxue continued to smile with her eyes squinted.
“By the way, Young Master Lin, I heard you were injured, and Miss Qin took you for treatment. How are you doing now?”
“I’m not dead yet, just unable to move much, sitting in a wheelchair.”
“Why is that? You seemed fine before.”
“That’s something you don’t need to pry into. I’m not in any danger, just recovering slowly.”
“Oh, so you’re here enjoying the scenery? This place is so beautiful, it’s perfect for recuperation.”
Luo Xiaoxue glanced at the wheelchair Lin Nuo was in and remarked,
“Your wheelchair is quite exquisite. Where did you get it?”
“Oh, this is…”
“I bought it for him.”
In an instant, a cold voice interrupted the conversation between Luo Xiaoxue and Lin Nuo.
Qin Shili, holding a fishing rod, bait, and a bucket, was clearly prepared to fish for Lin Nuo.
She hadn’t anticipated that Luo Xiaoxue would come all the way out here.
She figured Luo Xiaoxue was not just an ordinary girl.
In fact, Qin Shili had observed Luo Xiaoxue during her time at the Lin family estate. After all, knowing your enemy is the key to victory; she kept an eye on every woman who wanted to get close to Lin Nuo.
Luo Xiaoxue was no simple noble girl. Being able to sit at the same table as high-ranking officials was not something ordinary aristocrats experienced. Though she claimed her father had connections with officials like Dai Sheng, Qin Shili sensed there was more to it.
Moreover, some officials seemed to show her favoritism, the treatment she received was far beyond that of ordinary nobles.
Then she pieced her thoughts together; being treated well by high-ranking officials, combined with her interaction with Lin Nuo, reminded her of something.
Saving the princess.
That was when the court had requested assistance from the Xuanyun Sect to find the missing princess, and Lin Nuo had been entrusted with the task.
As for what Lin Nuo experienced during the mission, he didn’t mention it. In the end, the princess had been found, and the Xuanyun Sect received generous rewards.
However, Lin Nuo consistently dismissed any credit for finding the princess, claiming he was just an insignificant person with no achievements to boast about.
Qin Shili had heard some news and knew that the princess of the Great Puhan Empire, Luo Xiaoxue, had gone out incognito before. The last time she went missing, she was also in disguise.
Naturally, with her keen perception, she could piece together the possibilities.
Luo Yi was the princess, perhaps she had encountered Lin Nuo during her last disappearance and formed a brief connection, and now she had come in disguise to get closer to Lin Nuo during the Lin family’s grand celebration.
Lin Nuo was a man of low profile, a knight who valued integrity over status, and he despised the deceit and intrigues of the officialdom.
Luo Xiaoxue, on the other hand, hoped to approach Lin Nuo by concealing her identity.
Constantly analyzing Lin Nuo’s intentions, Qin Shili’s deduction skills had made remarkable progress, as she could infer various connections from a piece of information.
Qin Shili carefully placed the fishing tools in front of Lin Nuo and said,
“I brought you the tools you needed.”
“These fishing rods are nice.”
Lin Nuo picked up a rod, inspected it, and felt pleased with it.
Qin Shili turned to Luo Xiaoxue, calmly stating:
“Miss Luo, what a coincidence. I wonder why you are here?”
“I just so happened to pass by and didn’t expect to run into Young Master Lin. Perhaps this is fate and heaven’s will.”
Luo Xiaoxue squinted and smiled. Though their conversation seemed normal, there was a heavy tension in the air.
She wasn’t just passing by; she had clearly come after them.
As for Qin Shili, she naturally knew Luo Xiaoxue was chasing after them. After all, in this remote town near the mountains, it was unheard of for someone to come here just by chance. There were countless direct routes to other towns; to arrive here would mean going out of one’s way.
Qin Shili continued,
“Well, I wish Miss Luo a safe journey. My Junior Martial Brother and I are going fishing, so I won’t keep you.”
“I’m not in a rush either. Since I’ve seen Young Master Lin, it would be nice to catch up.”
“Junior Martial Brother is focused on fishing; I fear your chatting may disturb him,” Qin Shili countered bluntly.
“Miss Qin, to be honest, your sudden departure with Young Master Lin was a bit much. The Lin family estate has many skilled doctors. Even if Young Master Lin is injured, you didn’t need to take him away so suddenly. Besides, the Lin family is waiting for him to attend the celebration.”
“I’m his Second Martial Sister; of course, I’m doing this for his own good. His injuries cannot be treated by anyone at the Lin family estate.”
“How do you know if you haven’t tried?”
“No need to try; it’s guaranteed that no one can,” Qin Shili replied firmly.
Lin Nuo interjected,
“Ladies, I’m going fishing now. Please stop squabbling, or you’ll scare off the fish.”
“Alright, I’ll push you over.”
Qin Shili placed her hands on Lin Nuo’s wheelchair, then gently pushed him toward the riverbank.
Luo Xiaoxue followed, for she had come to keep an eye on them. She wouldn’t let them have a private moment.
Lin Nuo baited the hook with the fish bait, released the line, and tossed it into the water. Fish quickly swam over, and he soon caught one.
That was impressively fast, a first for him—much better than fishing at someone else’s pond.
He enjoyed fishing alone, as it allowed for reflection, but with two beautiful girls watching him on either side, the fun of fishing vanished.
It felt like being watched by two jailers.
“How about you both grab a fishing rod too?”
“Junior Martial Brother, I’ll chat with Miss Luo over here. You keep fishing,” Qin Shili said, looking at Luo Xiaoxue.
“Miss Luo, there’s something I want to discuss with you.”
Luo Xiaoxue paused, not knowing what Qin Shili had in mind.
She nodded in response,
“Mm, alright.”
Soon, the two of them stepped aside. Once they left, Lin Nuo wondered why the fish fled as well; none would bite now.
Was it that these fish were smart enough to come over to check out the beauties?
Qin Shili and Luo Xiaoxue moved to a spot where they could see Lin Nuo but couldn’t be heard by him.
“What’s your real reason for being here, Miss Qin?”
“You weren’t passing by; you came on purpose. You must have intelligence leading you here, indicating your remarkable status. I’ll guess your identity—you are the princess of the Great Puhan Empire, aren’t you?”
Qin Shili hit the nail on the head, leaving Luo Xiaoxue momentarily stunned.
