Chapter 318: All Are Villains
The Dongwei People gathered the white ash powder, and with Lin Nuo’s method, it exploded—quite explosively, I might add. Some Dongwei People were injured from the blast.
But, being the Dongwei People, they had their skills; with spirit power protecting them, they weren’t blown to bits.
Of course, Lin Nuo didn’t expect to blow them up; he aimed to retreat while the explosion covered his escape.
After all, there were too many opponents; a direct confrontation was bound to backfire. Instead, he relied on the high-end tactics of the Lin family to make a run for it.
However, the Dongwei People weren’t going to let Lin Nuo escape that easily; they quickly pursued him.
Lin Nuo once again conjured the Wind Spirit Technique, transforming into a carefree wind guy, zipping through the town.
The Dongwei were no ordinary folks; they had hidden spiritual senses all over the town, ready to track Lin Nuo’s escape route.
They split up, surrounding him with flanking maneuvers. Every time Lin Nuo was intercepted, he’d toss a powder ball, which would burst into a cloud of dust, using his Shadow Clone Technique to make an escape.
But one of Lin Nuo’s clones was quickly swept away by a Dongwei’s sharp gaze, vanishing without a trace.
“Not bad at all.”
Lin Nuo clapped for him before continuing his escape.
Repeatedly attacked by the Dongwei, the scene around Chuzhen grew chaotic, with townsfolk scattering in fear.
“What’s happening?!”
The meat shop owner asked the panicking townsfolk.
“It’s bad! A group of people is chasing after Knight Lin!”
“Who are they? Why are they after Knight Lin?”
The meat shop owner was stunned; this situation was too sudden.
But he seemed to have an idea of who it could be.
Could it be the Dongwei?
The meat shop owner thought it was quite possible. He wasn’t foolish; while he appeared oblivious to the Dongwei, he understood more than he let on.
Dongwei’s way of handling matters wasn’t great; they could be seen as quite greedy.
On the surface, they looked like they were concerned for the common people, but in reality, it was all for personal gain.
It should be said that most powerful people are like this.
He wasn’t someone who had never been involved; he just felt disheartened and chose to retreat.
The Qin family was doing well, or more accurately, Qin Shili was doing well, as she had initially set the policies here. After all, it was a small town, and the Qin family originally just treated it as a tourist destination, leaving policy decisions to their daughter.
Qin Shili didn’t meddle too much; she let things develop on their own, stepping in only when there was real difficulty to provide help.
With stability in the town, the officials were clean, and there was no exploitation of the townsfolk. They all got along quite harmoniously, thanks to Qin Shili’s natural approach of helping when in need.
Qin Shili is a good person, and the Lin Nuo she admires is certainly not someone ordinary. Plus, she often speaks highly of him, claiming that his low-key knightly demeanor is something all capable people in the world should learn from.
Indeed, stories about Lin Nuo circulated in the town; he was seen as a beacon of righteousness.
Lin Nuo had also proven to be a good character; he would share his catch with the townsfolk and came to the meat shop without airs, down-to-earth and approachable.
Seeing Lin Nuo being hunted by the Dongwei, the meat shop owner couldn’t hold back any longer.
If it was because Lin Nuo refused to submit to the Dongwei and they were being ruthless, leading to this pursuit—he felt uneasy about it.
He closed the shop, rummaged through the storage room, and pulled out an axe.
It hadn’t been used in ages.
No way! He absolutely couldn’t sit idly by, letting the Dongwei wreak havoc and kill. Even the best home could be lost forever.
The meat shop owner walked the path to find Lin Nuo, encountering many townsfolk along the way.
Instead of panicking and fleeing amidst the chaos, they stood up bravely in this crisis.
Among these townsfolk were flower planters, cart-pullers, and vegetable growers—seemingly very ordinary people.
“It’s dangerous with outsiders causing trouble; you should find somewhere to hide.”
The meat shop owner said.
“And you? Why aren’t you going?” asked a flower planter.
“I’m going to help Knight Lin.”
“How do you plan to help? They’re not livestock; you can’t just cut them down.”
“To be honest, before I came to Chuzhen, I used an axe, and back then, I was killing people.”
The meat shop owner declared.
“I might be overestimating my capabilities, but I can’t let those outsiders continue their rampage. The Qin family has treated us so well; I can’t let them kill Knight Lin.”
“There are too many of them; how can you go alone?”
A carter said.
“Let’s go. I’ve not been a good person in the past, just one more life to lose; I’m in.”
“I’ll go too.”
“Me too!”
Others echoed, revealing hidden skills, living under the guise of ordinary townsfolk to lead stable lives.
But now, trouble had struck; Knight Lin was being hunted, and they owed the Qin family so much—how could they stand by idle? Especially knowing that Lin Nuo was still young, it’d be a disgrace for the older generation to hide.
A few stepped up, and those who were hesitant were naturally encouraged by the courageous townsfolk, stepping forward right away.
Thus, the townsfolk formed a small squad. Some possessed the ability to summon Spiritual Eagles, calling forth the creatures to search for Lin Nuo.
“I found him! Follow me!”
“To speed things up, let’s not take the detour over the bridge and go straight across.”
One townsman did something, and a spirit energy path appeared on the river’s surface, allowing people to walk on it without falling into the water.
“Let’s go!”
The townsfolk small team crossed the river directly, heading toward Lin Nuo’s location.
Meanwhile, Lin Nuo still hadn’t managed to shake off the pursuit of these Dongwei.
“What’s the deal? What kind of grudge or grievance is this? Still chasing me.”
Lin Nuo complained, mainly because there were too many enemies. He could dodge one or two, but couldn’t shake off the entire horde. Plus, these guys seemed to have a knack for tracking his movements.
That Sun Feng was like a rabid dog, surging forward, every time he spotted Lin Nuo.
“By the way, you’re a bit slow with your moves.”
Lin Nuo deftly dodged and then smashed down a brick.
The brick shattered, and Sun Feng remained unharmed.
“Good thing I didn’t use my fists; otherwise, my hands would be gone.”
Lin Nuo fell back, trying to figure out how to take down this indestructible Dongwei.
As Lin Nuo continued to retreat, the Dongwei closed in again.
“Looks like there’s no way out.”
Lin Nuo glanced around, indeed realizing there was no escape route.
Only the sky was left.
Or he could use wind techniques to fly up, but he wasn’t sure if he’d escape smoothly; the Dongwei were no slouches in aerial combat either.
If all else fails, he could pop a Fury Pill, but with his body not fully healed, that might do more harm than good; he didn’t know what the outcome would be.
This was his last resort—getting pushed into a corner meant self-destruction.
Just as Lin Nuo planned to leap into the air with his wind techniques, a wave of townsfolk came running his way.
Each held various weapons—hoes, axes, brooms—everything and anything, looking like a ragtag army of cannon fodder.
Lin Nuo looked carefully at these folks.
Good grief, this wasn’t a ragtag army at all; this was clearly a team of full-blown villains!
