Chapter 326: Leaving This Place
Lin Nuo arrived at Xia Hanmo’s room, frowning.
This is terrible! Two girls were already enough of a chatterbox, and now three more plus his nagging mother were added to the mix.
It’s a frantic bombardment!
“Nuo’er!”
“Junior Martial Brother!”
“Senior Martial Brother!”
“Young Master!”
Seeing Lin Nuo return, everyone in the room rushed over excitedly to greet him, instantly surrounding him.
The air was thick with a mix of various perfumes that overwhelmed his senses.
“Cough, cough.”
Lin Nuo instinctively cleared his throat, responding to their concern,
“I’ve got a few injuries, just resting a bit, nothing serious.”
“Junior Martial Brother, if you’re injured, why don’t you return to the city? I might have a solution!”
Liu Shuqin questioned, a hint of reluctance in her tone, while Lin Nuo’s gaze inadvertently shifted to Qin Shili.
What do you want me to say? With my state at that time, like a dead fish, did I have any other options?
“Maybe you do have a solution, but the end result is that I took care of him and got him back on track; my judgment was correct.”
Qin Shili quickly articulated her viewpoint but didn’t dismiss Liu Shuqin’s medical skills.
“My treatment would lead to faster recovery,” Liu Shuqin retorted.
“There’s no point in discussing this; in terms of results, he has recovered, and that’s enough.”
Qin Shili said coldly. This was like executing before reporting; Liu Shuqin understood that complaining now was useless. The more she complained, the more it reflected poorly on her character and how much she cared.
Liu Shuqin always regarded Qin Shili as a rival, seeing her as a significant threat in both beauty and capability.
This time, she had miscalculated, completely unprepared for the fact that Qin Shili would secretly take Lin Nuo away.
That “away” had been more than half a month.
What happened during that time, she had no way of knowing; just thinking about the two of them sharing an unknown place together didn’t feel good at all.
“It’s great that Nuo’er is okay, really great.”
Xia Hanmo held Lin Nuo’s hand, saying with relief. As a mother with only one precious son, her greatest joy wasn’t his achievements or fame, but rather that he was safe and sound.
Years had passed with their son achieving little, leaving her without any expectations of him proving himself long ago.
All she wanted was for him to live peacefully.
Recently, however, Lin Nuo’s accomplishments had genuinely surprised her. This was good; her son had finally reached a breakthrough.
“Please step outside for a moment; I need to have a private talk with my mother.”
Lin Nuo said to the girls surrounding him, who understood and naturally stepped out.
Lin Nuo closed the door and sat across from Xia Hanmo, who immediately wanted to pour him some tea.
“I’ll do it.”
Lin Nuo hurriedly grabbed the teapot, adding tea leaves and water before pouring tea for Xia Hanmo.
“Nuo’er, you’re now a big hero in the city. Mother is very happy; it’s her duty to pour tea for you.”
“Regardless of whether I’m a hero or a villain, I’m ultimately still your son.”
Lin Nuo said plainly, placing the teapot back down.
He noticed a hand-knitted sweater by the bedside. Xia Hanmo was not the delicate noblewoman type; she was more like an ordinary, hardworking woman. She didn’t enjoy the luxurious lifestyle of highborn ladies but would knit clothes and occasionally prepare simple dishes while keeping the house clean herself.
However, such a clever and understanding woman, once taken into a noble household as a concubine, often received little affection.
In contrast, those flashy women were the ones to be favored by their husbands.
For wealthy men, they preferred choosing flirtations.
“This sweater is really well made,” Lin Nuo said after taking a sip of tea.
“This is a sweater for Nuo’er; it’s almost finished. I hope you won’t dislike it.”
“Be more confident; I’ve never disliked your things. After all, you are a noblewoman, so stop belittling yourself.”
“Nuo’er is saying this to make Mother happy; I know, and it makes me very happy.”
“Not at all, I’m just stating the truth without any flattery intended. You always think so lowly of yourself, which you don’t need to do. You’ve already lost the game just in spirit alone; there’s no need to talk further.”
Lin Nuo said seriously, possessing a unique understanding of life as a seasoned villain.
He shifted the topic back:
“I told you before about leaving this place; have you thought it over?”
“I have decided; I’ll leave whenever it’s convenient for you.”
“Good, as long as you have made a decision. Ruo’er’s adoptive mother will be there, so at least you won’t be so lonely.”
“That’s great. Actually, Mother hopes Nuo’er stays close; that way, Mother won’t be lonely at all,” Xia Hanmo said with a smile.
This is the common mindset of parents, longing for their children after a long separation, hoping to keep them close.
Of course, Xia Hanmo also wished for Lin Nuo’s success. Who wouldn’t want their child to excel?
“However, Mother also knows that Nuo’er is now a respected hero and must be very busy. Mother still hopes for your career to flourish.”
“I will come to see you when I have time. In your free time, find some other ladies to play cards or gossip with. You should aspire to a higher lifestyle and connect with some cultured people to share interests in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Now that you have the opportunity, you should choose a lifestyle you like and say goodbye to days that are just passively arranged.”
Even though Xia Hanmo was the elder, Lin Nuo spoke like he was the experienced one, giving her advice.
“Alright, you’re right, Nuo’er.”
Xia Hanmo nodded repeatedly, now feeling there was no one more reliable than Lin Nuo, willing to heed his words.
“Nuo’er, the Lin family estate wants to hold a celebration banquet for you. We can eat first before leaving.”
“I’m not going.”
Lin Nuo outright rejected it.
“I don’t enjoy those lavish fish and meat feasts; I’d rather have a homecooked meal with you.”
“Alright then, Mother will cook a few dishes for you. Your taste hasn’t changed, has it?”
“Nope.”
“Hmm, Nuo’er, how about inviting those girls to dine with us?”
“Why?”
“Because it’ll be livelier. Also, Nuo’er, in my opinion, those girls are quite nice—beautiful and kind-hearted. Although you focus on your career, you should also consider life’s major events. Make the most of opportunities as they come; Mother wants grandchildren too…”
“Alright, alright! I can let them join the table, but can we not discuss marriage anymore? And please don’t talk about it to them; that’s quite rude.”
Lin Nuo sighed. Sometimes, he found himself genuinely annoyed by Xia Hanmo’s nagging, constantly bringing up marriage.
As a grand villain, how could he be bound by a woman?
Soon after, Xia Hanmo invited a few girls to dine with Lin Nuo. Although there was some arguing at the table, overall, it remained harmonious and lively.
Lin Nuo escorted Xia Hanmo out of the Lin family estate before returning to Tianling Mountain.
After arriving back at Tianling Mountain, he would face a daunting task.
