The reason we had come out was, though I realized it a bit late myself, not just to eat.
It turned out Kim Ha-neul had called me to observe the conclusion of yesterday’s unfinished match, this time in a different format. And since I also wanted to see the ending of that match, it was a perfectly good proposition.
After leaving the café, we headed straight to the PC Bang. Today, we intended to settle yesterday’s unfinished business with the gaming center.
Though the student council president was sort of an uninvited guest in this match, it goes without saying that a true master won’t let their skills falter just because of an unannounced intruder.
With the exception of rhythm games, I didn’t exactly win any of the other games yesterday, and tried my best this time around. But, cunningly pulling his girlfriend into the equation, he created a one-versus-two scenario, which distracted me with his chatter, making it impossible to win against him.
“Did you know that woman we passed earlier? Is she someone you know?”
“Maybe we were acquaintances before?”
He suddenly brought up subjects completely unrelated to the games.
“Did you perhaps learn anything about Inna’s powers?”
“If you’re asking about Inna’s abilities, I’ve got no comment.”
Or he asked if she was trying to develop a relationship with Inna and pry into her powers.
“What kind of ability do you possess?”
“Why are you recklessly asking about supernatural powers?”
He pried further, annoying the student council president before me. It was clear he only intended to distract me during the game, making it impossible for me to concentrate and ultimately win.
After what felt like a catastrophic defeat, I expected him to tease me. However, instead of mocking me, he asked random questions that I found increasingly bothersome. Tearing my hands away from the keyboard, I finally said,
“Knock it off. This isn’t some kind of interrogation.”
Even though I decided not to distance myself from him because he’s the protagonist, it was as though he took on the role of a detective to extract something from me, which made me feel quite uncomfortable. To be certain, I’m fine. But my issue is that I’ve always been mindful not to reveal too much because others often wonder if I’m possessed. This fellow, however, carelessly asks questions without any consideration, naturally making me feel irritated.
In an instant, the atmosphere turned awkward. I thought reviving the mood was as impossible as reviving a dead atmosphere with even the legendary Hua Tuo. However, it was the boy himself who stepped up to salvage it.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“…You don’t need to apologize. But I’d prefer it if you didn’t show any other intentions when meeting me.”
Standing up from his chair, he came over to sincerely apologize, which left me no choice but to accept it. Dirty talk during a match can indeed make things more interesting, but engaging in something completely unrelated to the game just ruins the vibe.
After he re-seated himself, his focus on the game faltered, and consequently, I scored three straight victories, bringing the gaming session to an end.
As the sun began to set following the conclusion of the match, the boy stepped out of the PC Bang and looked up at the sky. His mind was still dwelling on something Erica had said earlier.
Her words – “I’d prefer it if you didn’t reveal any hidden intentions when we meet” – had pierced a corner of his heart the moment he heard them.
For him, this world was no different from the games he had played with them earlier. It could be enjoyed, but ultimately, he had to return “home.”
Perhaps after hearing that Inna’s abilities could possibly manipulate the system, he subconsciously began to guard against them. Even though they were the ones who inevitably had to separate because of him, he couldn’t have believed that they possessed abilities surpassing the system.
“So, shall I accompany you home, or do you want to go together?”
Thus, the boy’s offer was a sign of consideration for the girls, an olive branch since he couldn’t always be with them on regular weekdays.
Upon hearing this, the student council president quickly glanced at Erica, then forward, then back at Erica again in a repetitive cycle.
She wanted to go together, but if Erica didn’t want to, then she would follow her opinion – an enthusiastic declaration indicating she strongly wanted to go together.
In the end, the final decision rested with Erica. As she walked along deep in thought, her expression serene, she turned to the boy.
“What do you prefer to do?”
“As for me…! It doesn’t matter. Please decide what you want.”
Erica also seemed intent on making a decision by considering the other’s wishes. Turning to the student council president, the president, despite her momentary fluster, agreed to follow her counterpart’s decision.
“I’ve spent enough time with you, so I’ll go with Erica.”
As Erica expected, she declared her intention to stay with the student council president using her eyes to signal, “we women will be among ourselves, so the man should disappear.”
Though the meaning Erica conveyed with her gaze differed from the boy’s interpretation, he took it literally and said, “Then, I’ll leave first,” and walked away. Once he had distanced himself a bit, he stopped.
“Alright, come out.”
Mysterious figures silently emerged from lampposts, walls, or the ground itself, encircling the boy.
Even with the strength to leap over walls, it was almost impossible to escape the dense trap.
Since he started hearing strange rumors about a woman near Erica, he had remained vigilant. In romantic visual novels, such rumors were often true, or they indicated some malevolent individual’s design against Erica.
He assumed they would target the separated party. It seemed a few remained with Erica instead of him, but he believed he could handle that. Even if not, he could return quickly after finishing here.
As if stalling for time, they remained motionless. Clenching his fists, the boy stated,
“You’re not just here for a conversation, are you? Step up. I don’t know where you’re from, but I have a place to be, so deal with all of you quickly.”
“I don’t understand what you’re saying. It’s not ‘you’, it’s ‘you all’ that I should address correctly, isn’t it?”
The fiery ‘Radiance’ emanating from the boy’s fists lit up the city as the sun set, becoming a new sun and illuminating the area.
The boy had numerous enemies, be they from different genres or created during the year he resolved the heroines’ stories. Guessing who sent them was a waste of time, having created so many enemies.
Frankly, they weren’t even “alive” in his view.
[Doll A][Doll B][Doll C]…
The series of ‘Dolls’. The woman he encountered in the café had the same non-human presence and supernatural abilities.
“This seems like an intervention beyond the main heroine’s usual level elsewhere… You should concentrate on me if you don’t want to lose everything you’ve created.”
The mysterious doll who began speaking saw the boy raise a hand ablaze with Radiance, and with a combative grin, the battle commenced.
“Rather unpleasant.”
The student council president, who was leading Erica home, abruptly became visibly irritated.
Insight through wisdom. This is a power almost akin to omniscience, yet not quite omniscience. It is a strength that requires information as its basis to understand anything.
When touching Erica, this method identified whether she felt slightly disturbed, pleased, or indifferent, all through subtle expressions, allowing the president to pinpoint actions Erica might like.
Given the president’s consistent identification of Erica as the answer to the boy’s inquiries, this might involve the president’s obsession with her. Thus, the responses weren’t necessarily always accurate because wrong information could be taken as truth.
Considering Erica’s awakening rate had already surpassed 1%, the president, while unsure, doubted if these insights were truly accurate.
“Honestly.”
The evening stroll with Erica was something the president cherished, so he had become adept at knowing what should be shared during their walks here.
The enjoyment came from the gentle wind blowing towards them and the warmth shared through their clasped hands. He hoped it wouldn’t end.
It was like a peaceful symphony interrupted by noise when they noticed others tailing them.
Because the atmosphere created by these people was incredibly disruptive, the president, skilled at memorizing and utilizing every moment of their walk, immediately perceived the disturbance.
‘He must have already figured it out.’
With his remarkably sharp insight, he would probably take a few of the attackers to fight elsewhere, leaving some to follow them.
Even though he noticed beforehand, the president wouldn’t run away just because others were present. If he considered it his fight, he would carry it through to the end. The president was, after all, a decent person despite being torn apart by Erica and the boy.
Though today seemed a little strange because he prioritized his own matters and got scolded by Erica,
Erica also seemed to have noticed the sudden change in circumstances as she quickened her pace. Before them and behind were masked figures blocking the alleyways.
Noticing the ex-lover’s rigid shoulders due to the stress of her yet incomplete recovery of supernatural abilities, the student council president smiled brightly to reassure her.
“Don’t worry, there’s no way I won’t protect you.”
It was a statement that could only come from someone who still considered Erica not an ex-lover but a current lover.
Though not a combat-oriented supernatural ability user, the president confidently pulled a black leather glove from her pocket.
“I’m coming back victorious.”
The main heroine at the school with the protagonist stepped forward to face the adversaries trailing them.
…Over 20 such adversaries.
