Chapter 330: Assign Two People for Me
Strictly speaking, Lin Nuo was actually an undercover agent.
A person whose heart leaned toward evil but was within a righteous sect.
Through his efforts, he had made all the disciples and elders of the sect believe he was a great hero, a true knight; reaching such a height was something no one had done before or would do again.
Well, he was just making excuses for his own failures.
Lin Nuo glanced around and realized one thing.
He asked:
“Can the Master’s magic array be soundproof?”
Master Zhao replied:
“It’s not soundproof; we can hear the noise outside, but those outside can’t hear what’s happening in here.”
As expected of the leader of the Xuanyun Sect, the array was truly sophisticated, much better than mere soundproofing.
Master Zhao continued, “Lin Nuo, I must confirm again, going undercover is dangerous. Are you really fine with it?”
“No problem.”
Lin Nuo replied firmly, almost too eager for it—what could possibly go wrong?
He was worried that staying too long in the Xuanyun Sect would inundate him with righteous ideals. He needed a dark environment to hone his villain skills and instincts.
To put it simply, it was about regaining his villainous edge; he felt like he was becoming too righteous.
“Then good! If this works out, your contributions will be significant. You will receive treatment similar to that of a revered master and be allowed to establish your own sect, passing on your unique skills.”
Being granted the treatment of a master at such a young age was something many cultivators dreamed of. It typically required years of qualifications and outstanding achievements to even be considered.
Receiving the treatment of a revered master was a sign of success for a cultivator.
Now, Lin Nuo accepting this kind of mission and treatment demonstrated Master Zhao’s trust in him.
It was quite normal, given the merits he had built up. If he couldn’t be trusted, who could? Time and time again, he had turned the tide; he was almost like a savior.
As for the so-called revered master treatment, Lin Nuo wasn’t at all interested.
He wasn’t here to make a name for himself, and who knew when he might become the enemy?
Of course, he had to maintain appearances.
Lin Nuo nodded:
“Thank you, Master. I will do my best to make this work.”
“Good. If you need any help, I will do my utmost to assist you.”
“Please inform me of the existing intelligence that Xuanyun Sect has regarding Helong Hall and the Refining Demon Sect. I need to seek countermeasures.”
Lin Nuo said seriously, but in fact, he already had some intel; he just wanted to know how much Xuanyun Sect knew about these two organizations.
Knowing oneself and one’s enemy, he wanted to see how much the information he had differed from what Xuanyun Sect had.
“Alright, I will share the current intelligence with you.”
Master Zhao patiently explained all the intelligence Xuanyun Sect had regarding these two organizations. If he was to infiltrate Helong Hall, it was inevitable he would confront the Refining Demon Sect, so intel on them was also necessary.
Lin Nuo was unsure if Master Zhao was holding back any information, but from what Master Zhao provided, Lin Nuo seemed to have the advantage in terms of intel.
Master Zhao also offered several ideas on how to blend in with Helong Hall, suggesting he disguise himself first, then infiltrate as a low-ranking member and work his way up using his outstanding skills.
Lin Nuo was an old hand at this; he found Master Zhao’s ideas utterly dismissive. He had his own plans; being a villain was right up his alley.
“Do you need other people to assist you?”
“Yes, please arrange for Mu Yiting to assist me.”
“Mu Yiting? Why her?” Master Zhao asked, puzzled.
“I trust her abilities.”
Lin Nuo replied seriously, although ‘trust her abilities’ was a stretch; after all, she was originally part of Helong Hall.
“That’s fine, but she’s currently out and not at Tianling Mountain. However, this matter shouldn’t be delayed. You must act quickly, or you can choose someone else to assist you.”
“I can contact Mu Yiting; you needn’t worry about that. As for an intelligence liaison, I’ll choose my Second Martial Sister, Qin Shili. Is that feasible?”
To be an undercover agent, he needed someone to relay information back to Xuanyun Sect. Since Mu Yiting couldn’t return immediately, Qin Shili was his best option.
After all, Qin Shili practiced dark arts in secret and had been to the black market; she understood disguise. Teaming up with her was better than with other Xuanyun Sect disciples.
Who knows? The other disciples might stab him in the back!
You never know; people can be unpredictable. These righteous sect disciples preach righteousness and morals, but who knows what’s in their hearts?
Not that Qin Shili wouldn’t betray him, but the odds were much lower with her—choosing her seemed safer.
“Alright, I will contact Qin Shili to discuss this further. As for Mu Yiting, if you have a way, go ahead and reach out to her—this matter is confidential, just the three of us will know.”
“Master, if we infiltrate Helong Hall, conflicts with Xuanyun Sect or other sect disciples are inevitable. If they discover us and think we’ve betrayed them, I hope the Master can find a way to explain.”
“I understand. Since I entrusted you with this, I will ensure that neither of you bears any blame or faces the censure of others; I will find a way.”
“That’s good.”
Lin Nuo felt reassured; with the authoritative Zhao Master backing him, infiltrating Helong Hall was far less stressful.
He suggested involving Mu Yiting for Master Zhao’s peace of mind, merely to make the Master think she was the one going undercover—if her activities in the underworld were exposed, at least someone would have her back.
As for whether he would actually seek her help, that was a different story. She was in no position to assist herself, let alone help him. He would just go to Helong Hall as a small fry and work his way up. Reaching out to Mu Yiting might only stir up trouble.
Playing it low-key, he would gradually climb the ranks; that was a basic quality of a villainous undercover agent.
If he successfully obtained the “Tianhong Secret Technique” and “Secret Realm Map,” then he would flee and not give Xuanyun Sect a hint.
After talking to Master Zhao for a while longer, Lin Nuo left, planning to discuss the details with Qin Shili the next day.
Leaving the courtyard, he mounted his white tiger and dashed out of the bamboo forest. The white tiger was initially planning to take Lin Nuo back home, but Lin Nuo declined. A big white tiger showing up at someone’s home late at night could cause quite a scare!
After leaving the bamboo forest, Lin Nuo was headed toward his residence.
That night, the bright moon hung high in the sky, and the night breeze blew gently, a bit chilly. At the cliff’s edge stood a girl gazing up at the full moon.
As the breeze swept by, her delicate right hand brushed through her long, dark hair, and a pleasant fragrance wafted toward Lin Nuo.
Hearing the sound of footsteps drawing near, the girl turned around.
In her gentle eyes was a hint of melancholy. Facing the young man approaching, she broke into a soft smile.
“Good evening, Junior Martial Brother.”
Liu Shuqin chuckled, trying to conceal her sorrow with a smile, but it was all too evident to Lin Nuo.
“Are you still awake at this hour?”
Lin Nuo asked as he walked towards Liu Shuqin.
“No, the moon is just too beautiful tonight, so I came out for a stroll. What about you, Junior Martial Brother?” Liu Shuqin responded.
“I was just wandering around, planning to head back.”
“Oh, are you free right now, Junior Martial Brother?”
“There’s nothing pressing.”
“Then, could you stay with me for a bit?”
Liu Shuqin pleaded in a gentle voice.
