Chapter 335: Rescue the Young Master!
Mu Yiting wasn’t sure what was really happening, but from their appearance, the sudden attack force looked like a bandit squad.
However, while bandit squads are usually a rabble, these guys were well-trained, advancing in an orderly fashion with quick and decisive movements.
Mu Yiting felt that these weren’t true bandits but merely a group disguised as such.
In no time, the sudden military force surrounded Mu Yiting and her team.
The enemy outnumbered them, which didn’t make sense, especially since there were a lot of dead bandits left in their territory, making it unlikely for so many to be present.
If these were bandits hustled together, it would be tough to achieve this level of coordination so quickly.
“Young Master, we’ve been ambushed! What should we do next?”
One of her subordinates asked anxiously. Mu Yiting pretended to remain calm on the surface, though she felt a bit flustered inside.
This was completely unexpected; how could she have foreseen an ambush while hunting bandits?
She had even conducted some preliminary scouting.
Wait, the scouts!
Mu Yiting realized that the person who had scouted ahead and reported back was now missing.
Caught in a trap.
Suddenly, a man wearing a mask stepped out from the troop.
Facing Mu Yiting, he removed his mask.
Mu Yiting could clearly see his true face.
The man squinted his eyes with a seemingly kind and approachable demeanor, yet Mu Yiting felt an intense loathing towards him.
At this moment, she understood what was going on.
This man wasn’t a bandit leader; he was her third brother, Mu Shi.
Mu Yiting’s situation was somewhat different from Lin Nuo’s Lin family. While Lin Nuo had a half-brother relationship, Mu Yiting and Mu Shi were cousins.
Though they were relatives, in the politically charged environment of the Mu family, they were more like enemies.
Mu Shi didn’t issue any orders for his subordinates to attack, but he had surrounded Mu Yiting’s team completely.
“Fourth Sister, I never expected you to actually manage to assemble your own force in such a short time.”
Mu Shi chuckled, seemingly praising her but actually looking down on her.
“What a shame, you’re still the weaker side in this affair.”
“Mu Shi, you’ve planted informants among my men!”
“Haha, I didn’t do that. Your people chose to side with me.”
As he said this, Mu Shi clapped his hands, and scouts who had been assigned to Mu Yiting appeared among his troops.
Mu Yiting shouted in anger, “You! We treated you well, and you betrayed us!”
The scout merely laughed off her accusation, saying, “Young Master, a wise person adapts to the times. Your power will soon be swallowed; I merely made the right choice to ally with the right master. Don’t blame me; you should also accept the trend and avoid pointless struggles.”
“A traitorous scoundrel!”
Mu Yiting roared, but her rage was powerless to change their situation. This was supposed to be a simple bandit purge to reclaim her territory, but with a limited number of troops—most of whom were newcomers—going against Mu Shi’s forces was a pretty tough challenge.
Mu Shi chuckled.
“Fourth Sister, I’ve found out that you’ve aligned with the Refining Demon Sect. By all rights, you’re the biggest traitor here, abandoning Helong Hall.”
“Heh, the Refining Demon Sect offers me help, while you lot want me out because I’m a thorn in your side. You call yourselves family; how ridiculous is that?”
Mu Yiting sneered. Although she knew it was futile anger, she said it anyway.
She had infiltrated the Xuanyun Sect as an undercover to help Helong Hall rise, yet she ended up being hunted down.
Her contributions were erased, and false accusations were piled on.
How laughable.
But in the underworld, such things were all too common.
Mu Shi shook his head and said with a grin, “Fourth Sister, I’m not here to put you to death. I’ve come to save you. The elders of Helong Hall have learned about your betrayal and wish to eliminate you. As your third brother, I’m a sensible person. I understand that you’re acting as an undercover for the Refining Demon Sect, but they don’t get that. Here’s the deal, Fourth Sister; if you submit to me and help me collaborate with the Refining Demon Sect, I can protect you.”
“Impossible! Do you think I’d trust you again?” Mu Yiting shot back.
“Fourth Sister, do you really have a choice left? You must trust me, or else when I capture you, regret will come too late.”
Mu Shi signaled to two attendants beside him, who waved their flags.
In an instant, the forces surrounding Mu Yiting launched an assault.
“Protect the Young Master!”
Loyal subordinates clashed with Mu Shi’s army, trying to cover her escape.
But the enemy had the numbers and strength; with many inexperienced troops on her side, it was clear they were at a disadvantage.
As one subordinate after another fell, Mu Yiting found herself in a dire battle, while Mu Shi sat back and watched, sipping tea.
“Mu Yiting, how can you possibly escape this time?”
Mu Shi savored his tea confidently.
His men were dressed like bandits, and if outsiders saw them, they’d just think a bandit attack was happening—no one would suspect any internal strife within Helong Hall.
Capture Mu Yiting alive, then announce that he rescued her from bandits, tricking her men into surrendering and swallowing her newly formed forces. This way, he’d gain an advantage within Helong Hall.
Seeing Mu Yiting struggling, he felt it wouldn’t be long before she’d be captured.
…
Lin Nuo was following the large troop and gradually approaching their destination.
However, someone came running in a panic, reporting:
“Bad news! The Young Master has been ambushed by bandits! We need to hurry and help!”
“Ambushed by bandits?”
The leader was puzzled. He believed Mu Yiting would have prepared beforehand, scouting the bandit situation before making a move. How could she have been ambushed?
But regardless of the reasons, saving the Young Master was urgent.
He turned to the crowd, saying, “Everyone, this operation against the bandits is not as simple as we thought. Now that the Young Master is in trouble, whoever rescues him will be greatly rewarded and also promoted in rank!”
As soon as he finished, he quickly dashed forward, and the others followed suit.
Lin Nuo thought, “Wait, the Young Master of Helong Hall was ambushed by a bandit force? Isn’t this like leveling up in a newbie village? How can the big shots fall here?”
So embarrassing.
But this was good news for Lin Nuo.
Disasters provide opportunities, and if he could save that Young Master, he’d rise rapidly, making it easier to infiltrate Helong Hall.
Alright, saving someone from bandits? That shouldn’t be too hard.
Lin Nuo followed the troop to the battlefield and indeed found a huge pile of bandits in a brawl.
“The Young Master is over by that cart!”
Someone shouted, pointing in a direction.
Because there were so many people, Lin Nuo couldn’t see what the Young Master looked like, but that didn’t matter—charging in would be fine. Surely someone would shout something heroic like, “Protect the Young Master!”
Forget the details; just charge in and take the kill.
Yet amidst the chaos, two blades came descending towards Lin Nuo.
He dodged gracefully and saw it was the two competitors for the squad leader position.
