Chapter 338: He Luo Fish
Around the Bixie Dragon Lake, some cultivators were recklessly rushing forward at all costs to seize opportunities.
Other cultivators thought their lives were more important and decided running away was the better choice. Though opportunities were crucial, nothing could surpass one’s life.
As everyone ran further north, the wind and snow grew fiercer.
It was so intense it blinded them, making it impossible to see the path ahead.
If that wasn’t enough, ice statues would occasionally charge out of the storm and slash down with a blade! And this cold wasn’t ordinary—it was akin to a weather-based spell.
Cultivators with low “ice attribute” resistance, or simply those who couldn’t endure the chill, instantly froze into ice statues.
To be honest, even Ming felt annoyed when facing these ice statues. Although activating the Dao Pattern Eye allowed him to see through the wind and snow, the strain was immense.
What if he later encountered a BOSS? His Dao Pattern Eye might not even activate then.
But without the Dao Pattern Eye, dealing with these ice statues became quite bothersome.
Fortunately, Shixin had an abundance of defensive tricks up her sleeve.
Not only did the Golden Bell Cover protect her from most attacks…
Shixin also possessed a spell that enveloped her in a circle of golden light, like wearing a golden battle robe. She was invincible, feeling warm as if it were summer.
Another defensive technique involved golden lotuses floating around her. When an attack approached, a lotus would swiftly block it, its petals unfolding into a shield shaped like a lotus petal.
She had many similar spells.
Ming hadn’t seen much of Shixin’s offensive magic but witnessed plenty of her defensive ones.
Shixin truly specialized in defense. “Dong!” With a bell’s chime, the overwhelming wind and snow gradually dissipated.
Before Ming and Shixin appeared a vast frozen lake.
Logically, with snow falling onto the lake, it should have accumulated over time. But strangely, there wasn’t a single trace of snow on the lake’s surface. The snowflakes melted upon contact.
The lake resembled a massive mirror.
In the center of the lake stood a towering temple.
It looked like a Buddhist temple but also bore resemblance to a Taoist one.
This temple had never been mentioned in any records about the Rootless Mystic Realm. So, it must have just appeared during this event; otherwise, it would have been documented.
As Ming and Shixin arrived at the large lake, others followed.
Seeing the lake, everyone rejoiced, believing they’d finally reached their destination, the treasures within seemingly within easy reach.
However, upon spotting the temple, they were momentarily stunned, just like Ming. They hadn’t expected a temple to appear.
These cultivators quickly became excited.
Since the temple was new and its doors tightly shut, no one had entered yet, meaning there were surely numerous treasures inside.
“BOOM!”
A thunderous roar echoed across the sky.
Everyone looked up as white clouds condensed into a single mass.
Though clouds were common, something felt off about these.
How could clouds be too white? And how could they produce thunder-like sounds without being dark?
But soon, the clouds dispelled everyone’s doubts.
A bolt of white lightning struck from the heavens.
Ming immediately pulled Shixin out of the way.
The lightning hit the spot where they had just been standing.
Upon closer inspection, Ming realized it wasn’t lightning but a shard of ice.
On the lake surface stood an ice spike resembling lightning, towering a hundred meters high.
“BOOM!”
More thunder rumbled, and more ice spikes descended from the sky.
Some cultivators weren’t quick enough to dodge, freezing instantly before exploding into fragments.
Others thought escaping the storm meant reaching safety.
Instead, arriving at Bixie Dragon Lake greeted them with what seemed like a group tribulation, leaving them dumbfounded.
They thought they’d escaped hell, only to find themselves in another.
Within less than an incense stick’s time, half the cultivators who reached Bixie Dragon Lake were already wiped out.
Thankfully, the ice-lightning assault didn’t last forever.
After two incense sticks’ time, it ceased. Yet, no one relaxed.
Their nerves were taut, unsure what awaited them next.
“Crack.”
The sound of cracking ice spread throughout Bixie Dragon Lake, startling everyone.
“Not good!”
Ming glanced down.
The lake surface, which he thought wouldn’t crack, now showed fissures spreading rapidly.
Ming carried Shixin and leaped away.
“Splash.”
The frozen lake shattered into a large hole.
A gigantic green dragon surged out from the icy depths!
This was truly a dragon—not a mere water-dragon.
Moreover, this dragon was stunningly beautiful. Its horns were crystal-clear, like crystal, and its body, compared to a regular true dragon, was more slender. Its scales shimmered faintly.
Behind this green dragon swam a bizarre giant fish with one head and ten bodies.
“He Luo Fish?”
Ming’s heart jolted.
He had read an ancient book that recorded—“From Mount Qiaoming flows the Qiaoming River, westward into the great river. Within are many He Luo Fish, each having one head and ten bodies, their sounds like barking dogs, eating their flesh cures boils.”
Translated, the Qiaoming River originates from this mountain, flowing west into the great river, filled with He Luo Fish, having one head and ten bodies, sounding like barking dogs, eating their meat cures abscesses.
The He Luo Fish was an ancient mythical beast long vanished from the world.
Yet, it appeared here in the Rootless Mystic Realm.
But Ming didn’t have time to marvel further.
Without warning, the He Luo Fish unleashed an icy breath, aiming to exterminate all intruders.
