Chapter 338: Participating in the Meeting
Lin Nuo’s rescue of the young master from a gang of bandits was definitely a blunder in the underworld.
Who could be braver than him these days?
Super brave, to say the least!
Mu Yiting intentionally asked him:
“What’s your name?”
“Ni Daye.”
“Oh, oh, Young Master Ni.”
“Young Master, you can just call me by my name, no need for the title.”
“It’s just a form of address. You’re a worthy subordinate deserving of being called Young Master. It’s truly a great fortune for our Helong Hall to recruit someone like you.”
Mu Yiting said respectfully, and through this brief exchange, she was even more convinced it was indeed Lin Nuo.
Lin Nuo had a rather unique tone; he was originally arrogant and cool. Acting humble like a little brother while speaking respectful words just didn’t fit him.
She felt that this Ni Daye speaking derisively fit him better.
Just as she was used to Lin Nuo speaking to her bluntly without holding back, she had also heard plenty of compliments, sometimes feeling that his insults were actually quite pleasant to listen to.
Strange, sometimes getting insulted even made her feel excited.
Mu Yiting glanced at her subordinates and asked:
“Who brought in this Ni Daye?”
“It was me, Young Master.”
The interviewer who had previously assessed Lin Nuo stepped forward to report.
“Reporting to Young Master, I noticed this Ni Daye has outstanding talent, so I even promoted him by two levels and made him the leader of the newcomers, letting him organize operations freely.”
The interviewer quickly took the opportunity to take credit. Upon hearing this, Lin Nuo couldn’t help but think, wow, that escalated quickly—wasn’t it just a task to rescue the young master, and now they make me a little head?
These underworld folks sure know how to take credit.
Mu Yiting nodded with satisfaction:
“Not bad, you have an eye for talent. I will certainly reward you. To those who achieved breakthroughs, I will also give rewards. Our survival this time must bring blessings, so everyone, let’s return first. I have to meet an important guest next.”
After resting, Mu Yiting led them back to the organization.
Lin Nuo followed behind, blending in as a little brother of Helong Hall, observing Mu Yiting’s true leadership demeanor.
It seemed Mu Yiting had truly taken off, becoming a prominent leader of Helong Hall, likely on par with Ling Meng.
Very good, from here on out, he just needed to play to her preferences, find some tasks to go out on, gain merit, and gradually climb up.
Today he was still a lowly little brother, but in about a month and a half, he should at least secure a position as a district manager, and then rise to become a major player, eventually commanding Helong Hall, swallowing up all sorts of chaotic factions like the Dark Alliance.
He would gain early access to underworld resources, and then with his advanced knowledge and talents, forge artifacts and pills to bolster his strength, becoming unbeatable.
He could even rely on unique talents to unleash the main character’s explosive power; that would be like a little cow arriving at the North Pole, utterly spectacular!
After returning with everyone, Mu Yiting had to go meet the important guest.
This guest had previously mixed with the Dark Alliance but later withdrew to form his own force, which was thriving now. Mu Yiting’s father had a slight connection with him, and after much effort, they finally got in touch, eager to collaborate, to which the guest agreed to meet.
This collaboration was significant for Mu Yiting and her team; the aim was to negotiate a partnership where both sides maintained their autonomy, unlike the Refining Demon Sect that demanded total submission.
If successful, it would free them from reliance on the Refining Demon Sect.
“Young Master Ni, please follow me to meet the guest,” Mu Yiting said to Lin Nuo.
“Young Master, Ni Daye has just joined our Helong Hall, how could he follow you to meet the guest? That doesn’t seem appropriate…”
One subordinate spoke up, feeling unqualified to go; how could a little brother have that kind of privilege?
“There’s nothing inappropriate about it; he’s more suited than anyone else.”
Mu Yiting stated firmly,
“By the way, I need to announce something: from now on, Ni Daye’s position and authority will be higher than all of yours.”
“What…?”
Everyone was shocked, especially the interviewer—had their little underling just jumped ahead of him in rank in the blink of an eye?
Are you kidding me?
“Young Master, we all made efforts to rescue you; it wasn’t just his merit alone. This might be hard to get everyone on board with…”
“You will soon recognize his capabilities and feel foolish for doubting him.”
Mu Yiting insisted firmly,
“Let’s go, Young Master Ni.”
Mu Yiting directly took Lin Nuo’s hand, acting as if she was casually not revealing anything, behaving normally while drawing close—she was quite bold in her approach.
Lin Nuo was also puzzled; although he had saved her, it didn’t warrant him being ranked above others. Typically, one would just get a slightly elevated position and be given a chance to prove himself for a gradual rise.
But this wasn’t such a bad thing. With power, he could do much more.
Lin Nuo followed Mu Yiting to meet the guest, but the guest hadn’t arrived yet. However, he ran into her father, Mu Feng.
“Dad, you are here quite early.”
Mu Yiting hurried to greet Mu Feng, who smiled and said:
“Well, this time’s guest is quite important, so I must prepare in advance to welcome him. By the way, Yiting, how did it go with the area that was occupied by the bandits?”
“Father, I’m sorry, it’s my incompetence.”
Mu Yiting sighed and recounted the situation of being ambushed and nearly losing her life, only to be saved by Lin Nuo.
After listening, Mu Feng looked over at Lin Nuo and thanked him:
“Thank you, Young Brother Ni, for saving Yiting.”
“Not at all, I am part of Helong Hall, saving the young master is what I should do.”
Lin Nuo recounted his lines, making it sound like he was a loyal subordinate wholeheartedly serving Helong Hall, ready to face any challenge.
However, deep down, he was just plotting a coup.
“Dad, Young Master Ni is quite talented, which is why I brought him along.”
“Hmm… Yiting, come here for a moment.”
Mu Feng, somewhat uneasy, called Mu Yiting aside for a private conversation.
Mu Feng asked with a serious tone:
“Yiting, this is an important meeting. Though Ni Daye saved you, you may reward him, but bringing him here recklessly might not be wise. Have you forgotten what you just said? Leaking your whereabouts could put you in danger?”
“Father, you needn’t worry. Ni Daye is definitely not someone here to gather our intel; I can responsibly assure you that if he wanted us gone, he wouldn’t bother with subtlety.”
“How so?”
“There are some complexities I can’t disclose. Please trust me; with his presence, we will have great confidence in this upcoming collaboration.”
“Alright, I’ll trust you.”
Mu Feng agreed with Mu Yiting’s decision, but still harbored doubts about Lin Nuo. He’d have to see what this young man could do to earn his daughter’s trust so completely.
