Chapter 297: Chaos
“So powerful a sense of smell, this must be a werewolf from the White Chalk tier,” Ed remarked, listening to Adèle’s warning. Adèle nodded in response.
“Yes, those guys have noses like dogs. To avoid being remembered by them by chance, I spray different specially made perfumes every day to change my scent. It’s quite troublesome…
“If a werewolf deeply remembers a scent, they can distinguish it within a range of over ten kilometers and locate it precisely. But fortunately, this deep memory process requires getting very close.”
Adèle explained, and after hearing her words, Ed furrowed his brows slightly.
“But if that’s the case, any unfamiliar scent entering that mansion would be detected. Does that mean we can’t sneak in?”
“If we can’t go in, then we won’t. Didn’t you already notify those Black Dogs? They know they’re looking for Alex, right?” Adèle said with a smile as she waved her finger. Hearing Adèle’s words, Dorothea nodded for Ed to agree.
“Yeah, I just removed the flesh puppets watching them. They’re now heading toward the mansion. I used one of our ‘captives’ to mention Alex’s name.”
Ed responded. Since Edmund needed to come over here, he couldn’t leave Alex’s zombie puppet watching them. Dorothea had previously manipulated a prepared eagle zombie puppet to take care of Alex’s bird zombie puppet. In the bustling and resource-rich capital city of Tivyan, finding a raptor carcass wasn’t too difficult.
In Igwente, Dorothea had considered making some raptor zombies because regular bird zombies were unable to carry bombs. When she arrived in Tivyan, she took time to arrange this matter specifically.
“It’s settled then. Those Black Dogs also know about Alex. If they can get close, we just need to wait here.”
Adèle said. Listening to her words, although Dorothea was puzzled, she waited quietly, anticipating the arrival of the hunters.
Soon, Dorothea saw from high above that a large black carriage was driving towards the mansion along the road and stopped at a distance from it. Edmund and his men got off and observed the distant mansion from afar, but they didn’t act hastily; instead, they seemed to be waiting for something.
From Dorothea’s high-altitude perspective, another carriage drove up and parked next to Edmund’s carriage. A group of other hunters got out, led by a middle-aged gentleman with a neat appearance and a small goatee. After getting off, he started talking with Edmund, and their statuses seemed equal.
“Those hunters are here, and they’ve called for reinforcements. It looks like another White Chalk captain.”
Standing on the rooftop, Ed told Adèle. Adèle raised an eyebrow and spoke.
“Another White Chalk captain? Hmph… As expected, they sought reinforcements from headquarters upon hearing it was Alex? The Black Dogs always handle matters prudently.”
Adèle said with a smile. Knowing that the opponent was a White Chalk tier combatant, Edmund chose not to face them one-on-one but immediately contacted headquarters for help, bringing another White Chalk tier combatant over, forming an absolute advantage. This was the correct choice for the side with intelligence superiority.
In Dorothea’s high-altitude view, she saw the new captain briefly exchange words with Edmund before they both looked towards the distant mansion. Then, they instructed their subordinates to spread out and guard, before walking together towards the mansion.
As they approached the mansion, Edmund and the goatee captain applied two sigils on themselves, making their figures somewhat blurred. Then, they began to stealthily enter the mansion, moving lightly and nimbly. Soon, they entered the mansion without triggering any alarms.
“Those two hunter captains have entered. Aren’t they afraid of being discovered by Alex? Wolves have such keen noses, don’t they?”
“Alex might find it difficult to discover them. Most of the Black Dogs are ‘Shadows,’ and ordinary extraordinary detection methods can’t catch them. And as Wind Summoners, these Black Dog captains can slightly manipulate the airflow around them, keeping their scents contained so they don’t spread. Without wind carrying the scent to their noses, even a wolf’s nose wouldn’t be of much use.”
Adèle explained. Hearing her words, Dorothea immediately understood why the two hunter captains could infiltrate successfully.
To put it simply, scents need to spread into the air and travel through it as a medium. Those two Wind Summoner captains could control the wind and airflow, making it easy to hide their scents. As long as a Wind Summoner wanted to, wolves couldn’t detect their scent.
“I see. This is a professional countermeasure.”
Listening to Adèle’s explanation, Ed nodded understandingly. Adèle continued.
“Right. The Wolf bl**d Association in Tivyan has had many conflicts with the Black Dogs. Many times, the wolf pups have been suppressed by the Black Dogs. This is one reason.”
Hearing Adèle’s words, Dorothea on the carriage far away nodded. Adèle, a senior extraordinary being of the White Chalk tier who had operated in Tivyan for years, provided valuable information to Dorothea.
Ed and Adèle continued to gaze at the distant mansion. After a moment, Ed seemed to think of something and murmured.
“This time, Alex was infiltrated by two White Chalks, and he seems unaware. It looks like he’s in trouble. If the hunters quickly neutralize Alex and swiftly control the mansion, it wouldn’t be beneficial for us. We need to find your teacher inside the mansion.”
“Yeah… It’s not good for us if the Black Dogs have a significant advantage. We can’t let the teacher fall into their hands…”
Adèle affirmed Ed’s words, and Ed immediately responded.
“So, we need some chaos. With chaos, we can better take advantage of the situation.” Dorothea had Ed say this. Now that the two White Chalk captains had already infiltrated, and Alex hadn’t noticed yet, Dorothea wanted to create chaos by causing trouble for Edmund and his colleagues, making Alex realize there was an intrusion. This would turn their infiltration into a direct confrontation.
Dorothea needed chaos—a chaotic situation that would allow her to take advantage of it, rather than a situation fully controlled by the hunters. Therefore, she controlled her originally high-altitude flying zombie puppet, carrying the prepared small zombie puppet, to officially fly towards Alex’s mansion, spreading them inside. These small zombie puppets carried unfamiliar scents, enough to make Alex inside the mansion aware of the intrusion.
After completing all this, Dorothea patiently waited. Sure enough, soon after her zombie puppet entered the mansion, a howl erupted from inside.
“d*e, Black Dogs!!”
“BOOM!!!”
With a loud explosion, the fourth-floor windows of the mansion shattered almost simultaneously, fierce winds blowing out violently, creating a whistling sound. Then, a series of intense noises erupted from inside the mansion, with numerous items being blown out by the wind.
Sure enough, under Dorothea’s reminder, Alex discovered the hunters who had infiltrated his mansion. Now, three White Chalks were fighting inside the mansion.
