Currently, all the first-year students are busy preparing for the midterm exams. Since entering the school, we’ve been adapting to school life under the guidance of our teachers and seniors, and we will deliver results worthy of their expectations. Thank you.
A clear voice echoed.
As a representative of the first year, the speech concluded followed by applause.
The young girl who stepped down from the podium elegantly bowed and went back standing upright.
Watching her, Lunia murmured.
“That’s really it.”
At Lunia’s muttering, Eiran, who was with her, blinked her wide eyes and tilted her head.
“What do you mean?”
“Exactly what I said.”
Lunia rested her chin on her hand.
“She’s the perfect top student they hope for at Seirun.”
Currently, the place where Lunia and Eiran were at was the Comet Hall.
Located in the center of Seirun, it was the location where Seirun’s Hero Records were stored.
It was also the place where many things left behind by the Comet Wizard lay dormant.
In fact, it was nothing short of the history of Seirun itself.
This place was also where the student representative meetings took place.
Centering around the student council president, each representative gathered by grade.
It was, simply put, a place where Seirun’s top students gathered to discuss their studies.
This meeting had come to end with first-year top student Lea’s speech.
“Isn’t Lunia a top student as well?”
“No, I’m a delinquent.”
Lunia giggled.
“Lunia, Eiran. Focus on the meeting.”
At that moment, a second-year student ranked third pointed it out.
“We’re focusing enough.”
“Don’t be so casual. We’re here as representatives of the second year.”
When Teveson spoke strongly, Eiran awkwardly laughed.
“Teveson, the grade representative meeting isn’t that rigid. It’s a gathering to build rapport between seniors and juniors, so there’s no need to be so tense.”
Eiran was right.
While there was a grand reason like academic discussions, that was merely the surface.
In reality, it was more like a social gathering.
It wasn’t an overly formal occasion.
But despite Eiran’s words, Teveson didn’t loosen his stiff posture.
‘He’s trying so desperately to be the grade representative. Of course, since it’s not based on merit.’
Among the top students in the second-year first class, there are many more outstanding students than Teveson, in terms of academic performance.
In fact, since becoming a second-year, Lunia’s class’s grade representative has been changed numerous times.
Lunia’s and Eiran’s rankings never changed.
Always third place.
Luca’s position, however, kept shifting.
Most of their abilities were relatively equal.
Because of this, the students who were favored by the teachers naturally occupied the representative position.
After Lea’s speech, the social gathering began.
Teveson approached the representatives of the third, fourth, and fifth grades, actively introducing himself as a grade representative.
However, the upperclassmen representatives showed rather apathetic responses to Teveson’s attempts.
Unlike Teveson who tried hard to build a rapport, the senior representatives seemed uninterested in deepening conversations with him.
The reason for their reactions was simple.
‘Not qualified. I guess our seniors think some elves are weird, right.’
Though Lunia didn’t realize this as a first-year, she came to know something as a second-year.
People worthy of being grade representatives often had some odd quirks.
Even the previous student council president, Renia from last year’s graduating class, had a slightly sadistic streak.
‘Isn’t she the type who wants to bully us every time she sees us? Come on, hug big sister!’
Recalling how Renia had run over to hug her, Lunia chuckled.
‘And Hardin-senpai.’
Lunia looked at Hardin, the top of the fourth-year and current student council president.
Originally, Lunia didn’t particularly like Hardin.
As the quintessential top student of Seirun, he constantly pointed things out to Lunia.
However, after exploring Luna’s world last year during the second semester, she came to know his true thoughts and formed a friendship with him.
He believed Lunia was most suited to be the next student council president and had mentioned that he would hand over the position to Lunia when she becomes a fifth-year next year.
‘Senior Marven isn’t attending again, is he.’
Lunia clicked her tongue at the absence of Marven, who was the top of the fifth-year class.
Marven was one of the students openly expressing dissatisfaction with the current Seirun system.
Being the top of fifth-years equated to being the strongest student.
Even Renia had intended to hand over the student council presidency to him.
However, Marven had refused.
The reason was simple.
Marven was not suited to the current system that prioritized the Magic of the Stars.
In other words, he lacked achievement in the Magic of the Stars.
While he may be the strongest in school, countless other students far surpass him as a practitioner of the Magic of the Stars.
Yet, his fame was so widespread externally that it was strange he wasn’t the student council president.
Especially, during this Hero Dungeon raid, Marven successfully retrieved Seirun’s Hero Record.
Seirun’s Hero Records were almost entirely lost.
In essence, he had accomplished a monumental achievement.
Even the zealots of the Pureblood Society, who had seized control of Seirun, couldn’t overlook appointing him as student council president. Yet Marven himself had refused.
‘The Pureblood Society bastards talk about Marven’s thoughtful consideration for the future.’
It was impossible to ignore the skeptical gazes from outsiders.
Additionally, most grade representatives harbored dissatisfaction with the current regime.
‘First-years are important. From the Pureblood Society’s perspective, we are the students already tainted, while they are a clean slate.’
Turning her gaze to the awkwardly standing first-years who appeared unfamiliar with the grade representative meetings, she thought:
‘Especially this Lea Tingel, right? The Pureblood Society likely has her marked…’
Lea’s significance was immense.
Not only is she a descendant of Seirun, but she recently succeeded in communicating with the Fairy King.
‘If I continue to be rebellious, they’ll probably overtly promote her as Seirun’s symbol. Who knows, they might even start calling her the first-year student council president, in a move related to Leao.’
Lunia clicked her tongue mentally.
Just as Lunia and Eiran were about to return to the second-year classroom through the hallway, Lea blocked their way.
With an impeccable presence, Lea looked at them, causing Lunia to tilt her head.
“Do you have something to say to us?”
“Yes.”
“What is it, Miss Lea?” Eiran asked with a warm smile.
Lea then asked seriously, “What do you think about Seirun currently?”
Caught off guard by the unexpected question, Lunia narrowed her eyes while Eiran looked perplexed.
‘What do I think about the state of Seirun? Of course, it’s a mess in my opinion.’
But under the current circumstances.
With Lea, a student favored by the Pureblood Society, asking such a question, Lunia couldn’t help but suspect another layer of meaning.
’Is this girl testing me?’
Eiran appeared to share the same suspicion, glancing back and forth between Lunia and Lea.
“Your opinion isn’t all that crucial, right? Let’s go, Eiran.”
Lunia brushed her hair back and turned around abruptly.
SCHUNK!
But Lea gripped the hem of Lunia’s uniform skirt, stopping her.
“Please tell me! It’s homework!”
“What?!”
Lea tugged hard on Lunia’s skirt while she blushed red and whined loudly.
“It’s homework assigned by Senior Flob!”
“What?”
Both Lunia and Eiran paused and looked at each other.
“Did Senior Leo give you homework? What do you mean?”
“Senior Flob is currently at Seirun.”
Lea took a deep breath and confidently declared:
“And I’m expected to become Senior Flob’s apprentice.”
Though Flob had only mentioned teaching her about magic, Lea already declared herself as Leo’s apprentice.
“…Why is Leo at Seirun? Where is he now?”
“Ah! That’s a secret only between Senior Flob and me. I can’t tell you!”
When Lunia made an exasperated face at this,
“Um… Is Senior Leo here as an exchange student?”
At this question, Lea’s shoulders shook, and Lunia crossed her arms and nodded.
“Ahhh, so that’s the deal.”
Lunia narrowed her eyes and smiled faintly.
“Then Leo must be at the first-year dormitory.”
“Why did Senior Leo come here as an exchange student in first year?”
“Considering the state of our school now, it’s quite obvious.”
With Lunia’s cold remark, Lea responded.
“Uh… Regardless! Please tell me what you think about Seirun right now.”
Listening to Lea, Lunia gave her response.
“I think it’s not functioning properly.”
“What? Why?”
Lea looked confused, prompting Eiran also to smile somewhat bitterly.
“Things have changed lately. There’s too much discrimination among students as well.”
“That’s true. Compared to last year, Seirun is now a complete dump school.”
“Again, with the ‘dump’ talk?!”
“Miss Lunia.”
“Eh, I’m just stating the facts.”
“At least tone down the language.”
“Then what should I call it?”
“Hmm… Hmm…”
Eiran hesitated, then carefully said:
“Ruined school?”
“In some sense, what you said is even worse.”
The shocking words from these two seniors made Lea mutter seriously.
“Maybe I should have entered Lumeran instead?”
Upon hearing this, Lunia was astounded.
Never in her dreams did she expect such words to come from the mouth of the direct Tingle family.
“We need to meet Leo first.”
“What? But meeting him wouldn’t be easy.”
“We’ll meet him secretly.”
“How secretly?”
“Visit Leo’s room at night.”
“AT NIGHT?!…”
Eiran’s face immediately turned bright red.
“Are you thinking strange things again?”
“No, I wasn’t!”
Seeing Eiran’s flushed face, Lea spoke up.
“Senior, I want to come too.”
“What for?”
“I’m curious about what Senior Flob wears for pajamas.”
Watching Lea earnestly answering, Lunia sighed.
‘Even if I tell her not to come, she’s coming anyway.’
After setting a meeting time for early morning with Lea, Lunia sent her off.
“Such an energetic junior.”
Eiran giggled.
“This proves something.”
Crossing her arms, Lunia said,
“Are all Seirun’s class representatives weird people?”
“What? I’m not weird.”
“You know everyone knows that your hobby is reading embarrassing novels? What was the title of the book you read this time? Something about a younger man holding my leash…”
Eiran covered Lunia’s mouth with a distressed face.
After a commotion, as they walked back to the classroom, Eiran looked worried.
“Anyway, we’re going to have to break the rules soon.”
“Isn’t breaking the rules in our school something we’ve been doing for a while now?”
With a slight laugh after some thought, Eiran responded,
“That’s true.”
While outwardly behaving obediently, Eiran was gradually turning into a delinquent.
*
In the top floor of the Comet Hall.
This was the highest point in Seirun.
There, the Star Plaza resided, used only during significant meetings or discussions in Seirun.
There, Acting Headmaster LeHagen was discussing with someone new to Seirun.
“It is an occasion for great celebration. Not long after the reincarnation of the founder of the Star Cloud to this land, Seirun’s Hero Record has returned!”
LeHagen’s voice echoed with emotion.
To this, Tion who had just arrived sighed deeply.
“Headmaster LeHagen, is it certain that the Hero Record belongs to Seirun?”
“Yes, it does, Master Tion.”
“…Was I summoned because you need an object that could serve as a ‘key’ for the Hero Record?”
The Tingel family, being the lineage of the Comet Wizard Seirun, surely possessed an heirloom that might open Seirun’s Hero Record.
“Indeed. There are hardly any of Seirun’s Hero Records remaining. The ones in existence are stored in Dragonia. Now that Seirun’s Hero Record officially returns to our school, it means students will be able to continue Seirun’s legacy.”
LeHagen smiled.
“This is an opportunity. Elven heroes can indeed be heralded as the most superior heroes…”
“Headmaster LeHagen. Heroes are by no means superior beings.”
Tion cut him off clearly.
“Heroes are beings that progress alongside the people around them. They’re merely somewhat special.”
“…I’ve always thought your concept of a hero, Tion, disagrees with mine. There’s no point in discussing this anymore since it will simply lead to hurting each other’s feelings.”
LeHagen answered with a smile that didn’t waver.
“What is important now is that the Comet Wizard’s Hero Record has returned to our Seirun.”
Tion nodded.
“Then, Headmaster LeHagen, do you know why there are hardly any of Seirun’s Hero Records left?”
“…I only know that they were lost during the process of dividing the Hero Records 3000 years ago.”
After that, Tion said while looking at LeHagen.
“Afterward, we successfully recovered many of Seirun’s Hero Records. It wasn’t just Seirun’s, we also managed to retrieve Hero Records of other Heroes of the Cataclysm.”
LeHagen’s eyes widened dramatically. This was even something he didn’t know.
“Then why are they not left behind? Was it the greedy dragons who gathered them for themselves?”
Seeing the anger flashing on LeHagen’s face, Tion responded.
“This is the last letter Seirun left behind in the school.”
Tion took out an old letter envelope from his garment.
“Ah… A letter left behind by Seirun…”
LeHagen’s face was filled with emotion upon receiving the sacred artifact. He then carefully opened it with trembling hands and looked inside.
His eyes widened at the content.
[To future elves: Destroy my Hero Record completely, leaving no trace as soon as you find it. —Seirun.]
“What… How can this be…”
“Following this testament, all Hero Records including those of Seirun and other Heroes of the Cataclysm were destroyed immediately upon discovery. This is the reason why the Hero Records of the Heroes of the Cataclysm no longer exist.”
