Chapter 348: The Water I’ve Drunk
Lin Nuo detected the underlying meaning in Qin Shili’s words.
With a slight chuckle, Lin Nuo replied, “Are you having fun? It’s not even close to when we’re together.”
“Having fun with you?”
“Exactly.”
Lin Nuo glanced at the pyre beside him and spoke calmly, “These corpses are being burned. When the time comes, we’ll separate, and you’ll say the people were burned by you, while the soldiers were burned by me.”
“Actually, I don’t want us to part so clearly.”
“My Junior Martial Sister, we’re already on different sides; how can we not explain ourselves?”
Lin Nuo took out a small bag containing two Meat Floss Cakes. He tossed one into his mouth and handed the other to Qin Shili, “Freshly baked, want one?”
“Yes.”
Qin Shili accepted the Meat Floss Cake, took a gentle bite, and chewed a couple of times. Eating this snack alone didn’t taste good, but sharing it with Lin Nuo brought out its sweetness, especially the one he offered.
“Once the people are killed, I’ll need to reunite with them.”
“Are you really so reluctant to stay with me?”
“Not at all, fine, I won’t leave just yet.”
Lin Nuo found a spot to sit down leisurely. While others were rushing around after their undercover transitional duties, he and Qin Shili remained composed, knowing they could detect anyone’s approach in this area.
Sitting calmly at a crime scene like this, only someone as audacious as them would dare.
Qin Shili sat down too. While others admired the starry night and full moon, they were, instead, gazing at the blazing pyre.
What would the recently deceased think of this?
Qin Shili spoke coldly, “What’s your relationship with that young master?”
“Master and subordinate.”
“And who is that?”
Due to Mu Yiting being veiled and her not having a sweet girl persona in the underworld, Qin Shili couldn’t recognize her at the moment.
Qin Shili wasn’t used to socializing, so recognizing people wasn’t her strong suit, except when it came to Lin Nuo—she was certain about him.
“She’s a woman.” Lin Nuo answered.
“Is that a meaningful response? Could it be a man?”
“Actually, it could be. In my hometown, some men are prettier than beautiful women.”
“So, she’s beautiful?” Qin Shili picked up on the key point.
“Not as beautiful as you.”
Lin Nuo shrugged, slightly exasperated with these women who obsess over who looks better or has a better figure.
“Shouldn’t your focus be on the fact that some men are more attractive than women?”
“I’ve traveled through that area of the Lin family and haven’t seen any such absurd man.”
“The hometown I refer to isn’t near the Lin family. Forget it.”
Arguing about the 21st century middle-class society was pointless; it was better to save the energy.
Qin Shili stated, “Then why don’t you take me to that place? I’ll know for myself.”
“I’ll take you when I have the time.”
Lin Nuo casually said this, but she’d have to study theories like quantum mechanics and relativity first, and even then, she could only go there in her dreams.
“Though I can’t see her face clearly, that young master should be a beauty,” Qin Shili said.
“I still advise you not to forsake light for darkness, or risk losing yourself,” she warned.
“What losing myself? I’m not a girl.”
Lin Nuo replied, “That young master is a key figure for my infiltration into Helong Hall; I have my eyes on the Xuanyun Sect. I’m just a junior, I wouldn’t attract the young master of such a grand organization.”
“I don’t believe that. First, your handsome face gives her a good first impression; then your aura, and last your strength—you can create demon weapons stronger than those of the Refining Demon Sect all by yourself; your power is not to be underestimated.”
“Have you reported this to Master Zhao?”
“Report? Are you really planning to forsake light for darkness?”
Qin Shili spoke coldly, “If you send word back, you won’t be able to return to the Xuanyun Sect. I won’t say a word. What, you doubt me?”
“Just asking.”
Lin Nuo finished his Meat Floss Cake and picked up his water bottle, which contained cold water. He drank a few gulps; the thirst was perfect.
The surrounding flames were burning fiercely, making it quite hot.
Qin Shili snatched Lin Nuo’s water bottle, surprising him.
“That’s the bottle I drank from.”
“We’ve shared the same bed and drank from the same bottle, is there a problem?”
“There is a problem.”
Lin Nuo hurriedly replied, “There’s not much left. Leave me a few gulps.”
“Of course. I drink from a bottle you’ve drunk from, so of course, you’ll drink from one I’ve drunk from.”
Without hesitation, Qin Shili took a couple of swigs, realizing this drink was cold water.
Speaking of cold water, she naturally thought of Mu Yiting.
“Where’s your Tingting?”
“What Tingting?”
“Mu Yiting; wasn’t she with you infiltrating Helong Hall?”
“She’s carrying out operations with other forces; she’s doing well. We’ll cooperate again later to take down Helong Hall.”
Lin Nuo said seriously, spinning fabricated tales without batting an eye, enjoying the art of nonsense.
He spoke so convincingly, it was hard to tell anything was amiss.
He added, “Once everything settles, I’ll head back; your practitioners are coming soon, and if they see us, it’ll be a disaster.”
“Go back then, you detestable man.”
Qin Shili left some cold water behind, tossing the bottle back to Lin Nuo before rising slightly.
Their rendezvous was way too short; it felt a bit unsatisfying.
Lin Nuo took the water bottle, finishing off the remaining cold water. Perhaps it was because Qin Shili’s lips had touched it, but the cold water felt even colder.
Was this the sensation of happy water with ice? Love it, love it.
The cold water soothed his throat, creating a long exhale that took away the heat, feeling extraordinarily refreshing.
Was this considered an indirect kiss?
Not that strange; he’d experienced more direct interactions before, just lips touching—nothing much.
Time to go.
…
Mu Yiting and the others successfully extracted themselves, now they just waited for Ni Daye to rendezvous.
But he hadn’t arrived for a long time, making Mu Yiting quite anxious.
Could something have happened?
If something went wrong, she would feel guilty for the rest of her life.
After all, he had gone against Qin Shili for Helong Hall’s future, so she could escape.
Qin Shili was a detached and ruthless ice queen, killing people without a hint of hesitation.
Yet she held the status of a top disciple of the Xuanyun Sect; her sword was merely for punishing evil.
Still, she couldn’t shake off her concern.
At that moment, she received news:
“Reporting, Young Master, we’ve spotted Ni Daye approaching from a distance!”
“Really? That’s wonderful!”
Mu Yiting perked up excitedly, but then her subordinate quickly added, “However, people from the Refining Demon Sect are rapidly closing in! Young Master, we should retreat immediately!”
“This…”
Mu Yiting thought this was troublesome. Why did the Refining Demon Sect appear, and if she left, could they capture Lin Nuo? How could she rejuvenate Helong Hall?
Moreover, the methods of the Refining Demon Sect were far dirtier than Qin Shili’s; she feared for Lin Nuo’s safety.
She couldn’t leave.
“You all go first; I’ll hold up the Refining Demon Sect.”
Mu Yiting declared resolutely.
