Chapter 35

Thirty-Fifth Pursuit

On the desolate outskirts of the western Igewent, three carriages raced along the quiet road, one in front and two behind, chasing each other. Amidst the dim surroundings, the muzzle flashes from the guns flickered continuously, breaking the silence with bursts of gunfire.

Dorothy, lying on the driver’s seat, multitasked. She controlled the zombie horses pulling the carriage as they sped forward, navigating turns, while simultaneously guiding the zombie Thomas on top of the carriage to return fire with his revolver. Bullets flew everywhere, and Dorothy occasionally heard the sound of the carriage being hit by bullets.

Due to both sides moving at high speeds and unstable conditions, aiming and hitting targets was extremely difficult. Most shots missed, and even those that hit the carriage did no damage to the occupants.

On top of the carriage, the zombie Thomas kept firing back at his former companions. With the limited capacity of the revolver, he soon ran out of ammunition. At this moment, Dorothy had Thomas throw the empty g*n towards her, while she tossed him a fully loaded one. After receiving the loaded revolver, Thomas continued shooting, while Dorothy reloaded the empty g*n. This cycle significantly reduced the period of firelessness.

Driving, shooting, reloading—Dorothy used herself and the two zombies, engaging in triple operations for a brief time.

Since Thomas was shooting from atop the carriage, the pursuers aimed their shots at him. Although hitting targets was challenging, continuous shooting eventually resulted in some hits. Soon, Thomas’s chest on top of the carriage was struck twice, but this minor damage did not hinder his movements. As a mere walking corpse, as long as his key action systems were intact and the “Cup” spirit continued to flow, he could keep fighting.

With his “bl**d-stopping skill,” even if his shooting skills were poor, he could still win a gunfight. Under such high error tolerance, Dorothy maneuvered the now four-shot Thomas, who finally hit one of the pursuers in their carriage. The man struck through the chest fell dead instantly. Just as he was about to fall, Dorothy de-zombified Thomas and extended the spiritual thread of the zombie ring backward, connecting it to the recently killed corpse.

With the influx of the “Cup” spirit, the eyes of the newly deceased corpse in the pursuing carriage began to move, and the entire body started to move again. Holding the pistol still in hand, he silently aimed at a teammate still shooting from the parallel vehicle beside them and pulled the trigger.

“Bang!”

Accompanied by the gunshot, another pursuer on top of the neighboring carriage was hit and died from friendly fire. Since the two pursuing carriages were close together and unprepared, this shot easily achieved a k*ll.

Next, Dorothy intended to control the corpses to sh**t the drivers of the two carriages, but they had already noticed the abnormality on the rear carriage. One of the drivers quickly pulled the reins to make the carriage sway, trying to dislodge the zombie on top. The zombie’s aim wavered due to the swaying, and instead of hitting the driver, the b*llet struck the horse.

Amidst a whinny, the horse, hit in the body, lost control completely and charged towards the adjacent allied carriage. The two carriages collided sideways, their reins entangled, and due to the impact and imbalance, both carriages overturned in chaos.

Meanwhile, Dorothy’s carriage continued to race ahead.

In the wreckage of the overturned carriages, two figures slowly rose. These were the two drivers.

Due to the rollover, both drivers were bruised and bloodied, but they stood straight, their eyes fixed on the direction where Dorothy’s carriage had gone, their expressions filled with determination.

“We cannot be deterred…”

“The mission must be completed…”

“It is time… for the ultimate sacrifice…”

“Only by becoming sustenance can we feast at the banquet…”

Muttering these words, the two drivers took out a palm-sized piece of ancient grass paper from their clothes. The paper depicted intricate and mysterious patterns, with an abstract cup symbol at its center.

“I offer my body as sustenance… invoking the bl**d Cup…”

Muttering these words, the two drivers slapped the paper onto their foreheads. Instantly, the paper ignited with red flames. After the paper burned out, an abstract cup mark glowed red on their foreheads.

Then, the two drivers’ eyes turned red. Ignoring their injuries, they chased after the distant vehicle directly, their speed incredibly fast.

On the racing carriage, sitting in the driver’s seat, Dorothy sighed in relief after successfully dealing with the pursuers. Just as she thought about where to stop, she suddenly heard movement from behind.

Peering out and looking back, Dorothy saw a shocking scene.

On the road behind, two figures were sprinting at incredible speed, their legs moving rapidly, closing in on her carriage at an alarming rate. Dorothy recognized these two figures—they were the drivers from the two carriages she had overturned earlier!

‘Oh sh*t… When did these guys catch up? How did they run faster than horses!’

Faced with two drivers who could catch up by running, Dorothy was startled but did not hesitate. She reactivated the carriage’s Thomas to sh**t at the approaching drivers.

In a series of gunshots, one driver was hit and fell, while the other reached a distance close to the carriage and leaped onto the roof, startling Dorothy.

‘This is human physical ability?!’

Dorothy manipulated Thomas to aim and sh**t at the driver who had landed on the roof, but the driver moved even faster. He slapped Thomas, sending the g*n flying and knocking Thomas off the roof, leaving Dorothy exposed.

Having overcome the final obstacle, the ferocious driver lunged towards the driver’s seat. Dorothy, hiding behind it, furrowed her brows at the approaching threat.

‘Bad news… I might have to use the Dragon Roar?’

Just as Dorothy prepared to use her last resort, the Dragon Roar, a gray stone spear flew through the air from afar, piercing the driver’s chest accurately. The driver screamed as the heavy spear dragged him backward, off the carriage, and he was pinned to the ground.

Seeing this, Dorothy’s face showed surprise. She turned to look in the direction from which the spear had come, seeing several figures standing at a distant intersection.

They were four armored knights, resembling stone statues, covered in gray-white armor. One of them was still in a throwing pose, motionless. In the center of the four knights stood an elderly man.

Wearing coarse clothes, an apron, arm protectors, and a work cap, his hair gray, he was Dean, the caretaker of St. Amanda School.

Dean smiled, holding a motionless gecko in his hand. Facing the carriage with Dorothy, he called out with a smile:

“You can stop now, Miss Meyshos.”
