Chapter 374: Persecution, persecution? PERSECUTION! (Please subscribe!)
Ashes of the heart…
This was Refia’s current mood.
No, to be more precise, it should be: “I really want to kill Izay!!”
Although she had already heard about the situation of the Dragon’s Pot from her senior Familial Group members and was well-prepared mentally,
Seeing this ultra-scale phenomenon with her own eyes still made her little heart thump wildly at an alarming speed.
If she wasn’t running at high speed, her delicate and round legs wrapped in smooth white stockings would probably tremble uncontrollably and eventually collapse helplessly on the ground.
After all, that astonishing cannon power, if hit without any defense, could instantly render even a Level 5 incapable of fighting!
Even after ascending to Level 4 and achieving an elevation in Ability Values, Refia still couldn’t hide her fear when facing the Cannon Dragon’s sniping.
It’s not that Refia is cowardly.
You must know that even her senior Familial Group members of the same level show signs of fear when mentioning the Cannon Dragon’s sniping. What about her?
In such a situation, the little fairy recalled the plan Izay mentioned last night – jumping down the vertical hole opened by the Cannon Dragon directly to the Fifty-Eighth Floor!
What the…?!
Refia couldn’t think of any other words to describe this behavior except for suicidal.
And if he wanted to die himself, it wouldn’t have been so bad, but he… he actually dragged her along too!!
Recalling being named by the captain to follow Izay’s team… Refia now desperately wanted to throw her staff and rapier straight onto Izay’s forehead!
[“Sky-blown snow, thrice severe winter – my name is Alfr”]!
However, Refia’s mental changes obviously couldn’t affect the progress of the team.
Riviria recited the magic incantation with a crisp voice, and the current chaotic situation couldn’t interrupt her rapid chanting process at all.
The magical circle underfoot reflected her jade-like face and emerald hair, revealing a reliable aura of calmness and steadiness.
Mom-san held back the prepared magic in her hand, not rushing to unleash it immediately.
The purpose of this Ice Magic was not for offense; strictly speaking, it was for defense.
When the next appropriate cannon shot arrived, use this ice magic to cancel out the Cannon Dragon’s attack, thus creating a safe prerequisite for Izay’s plan.
“Izay, get ready! And Bert, you three as well! Refia, move closer, watch your timing!”
They had now reached the corresponding area, and what was needed to implement Izay’s plan was just the right moment.
Finn’s perception ability wasn’t as outstanding as Izay’s and Ais’, so he wouldn’t interfere much with this, but at the very least, the formation needed some adjustment.
Izay, Bert, Tione, Tiona, Refia, and Gress. The six of them began consciously moving their positions out of the group, forming a smaller unit among themselves.
The only one who harbored a bit of resentment was the little fairy, who, despite being overwhelmed with fear, obediently followed along. Actions speak louder than words, indeed.
“Teacher/Riviria, the fork ahead, the next cannon shot is coming!”
Almost simultaneously sensing the landing point of the next attack, Izay and Ais called out to Riviria in unison.
[“Ecstasy: Fimbul Winter”]!!
Upon receiving the signal, Riviria aimed her wand at the target—the fork in the road ahead—and a trail of fine snow constituting an icy path bypassed and surpassed her companions, shooting straight toward the forward area.
And the sound of the maze floor shattering followed closely after the mellifluous magic name.
The expanding ground spewed out several explosive flames, with most of the twenty-meter-wide fork covered by pillars of fire. The beasts below were determined to eliminate all intruding Adventurers!
But things didn’t go their way. The powerful Ice Magic enveloped the fiery columns the instant they appeared.
Two completely opposite elemental energies met silently.
There was none of the common energy explosions found in stories; instead, there was only the continuous process of melting and freezing upon contact, producing sounds akin to autumn drizzle.
At the exact center of the broken ground, large amounts of steam dispersed in a short time, even forming a small “fog zone,” but not enough to obscure the path.
“Great opportunity! I’m first!!”
“Hey! Wait! At least say something to the captain!”
“Tch, don’t waste time like that, idiot!”
Tiona, Tione, and Bert seized the finest safety window. The moment the battle between ice and fire ended, they jumped into the big hole opened by the Cannon Dragon, showing signs of eagerness.
“Wait!? So sudden? I need a little preparation time~!”
Seeing her seniors leave without hesitation, Refia slammed on the brakes at the edge of the big hole, looking flustered.
People who’ve tried bungee jumping know that taking the first step often requires maximum, or even all, courage.
If you hesitate at the first step, then the rest of the time will only involve trembling legs while looking down at the hundred-meter drop below.
Refia was pretty much in this situation.
Her smooth legs clad in white silk tights formed a V-shape, her dainty feet, encased in adventurer boots, bent elegantly, with toes curling nervously inside the shoes.
She stood uneasily at the edge of the big hole, her sharp white ears trembling slightly as the little fairy leaned her slender upper body forward to peek at the view below the hole.
“Don’t stop, Refia! If you stop here, we’ll leave you behind!”
Refia’s entire reaction was completed within two seconds, seen by Gress at the rear of the group, who immediately gave her a cautionary reminder.
“I! I know!!”
Just give me another moment to adjust!
Just one!
Refia took the longest deep breath to hypnotize herself, bending her white-silk-covered legs and closing her eyes to prepare for the jump as Gress passed by her side.
But she wasn’t given the chance to finish.
“Fidgeting around… Izay, just grab her and go!!”
“Huh? Oh! No problem!” (Extremely gleeful tone)
Refia: “???”
Refia: “!!!”
The moment the little fairy’s delicate feet left the ground, she was suddenly pulled out by a much greater force.
Before she could adjust her posture mid-jump, Refia lost control over her body!
“Izay!!!!!!”
“What’s making such a loud noise back there!?”
On the other side, Finn led the eight-person squad that split off from Izay’s group and resumed their journey while the steam hadn’t dissipated yet.
They turned directly at the fork without even looking back as Izay and the others jumped into the big hole.
Tsubaki slightly turned her head during the journey, but unfortunately, she only saw a patch of white steam. The separated partners were no longer behind.
“Tsubaki, don’t get distracted! The Cannon Dragon’s sniping is still ongoing! Even the assault team needs some time to see results! Stay alert and don’t let your guard down!”
“Ah, sorry, I’ll pay attention!”
The squad remaining on the fifty-second floor placed Ais in the vanguard position and quickly ran through this passage.
The two squads, deliberately separated, each rushed towards the Fifty-Eighth Floor along different routes.
