Chapter 314 – The Meeting Point
The man spoke seriously to Gregor, and under Dorothy’s control, Gregor immediately responded.
“I’m doing well now. Thanks to the data provided by the society, I’ve passed their review. Nothing went wrong in between, and they are arranging my promotion. Until the promotion is complete, I have to stay inside the bureau with limited mobility. So, you don’t need to give me the Human-faced Spider for now. After my promotion, I will find a place in the city to live. Otherwise, staying exposed under the Radiance Lamp of their headquarters could risk revealing the Extraordinary Item.”
Gregor said this to the man, and Dorothy understood that after accepting the so-called Human-faced Spider, she would likely be directly contacted by the upper echelons of the Eight Pinnacle Nest, rather than this subordinate. Without the effect of “The Queen’s Queue” to fool them, and before Gregor truly ascended to become a Shadow Faced Man, it was best not to make contact with them.
“Oh, I see. Yes, I understand. I’ll report your situation to the higher-ups. Right now, I run a store called Donald’s General Store on Silver Road in the East District as a cover. If you need the Human-faced Spider or have important information to pass to the society, you can find me there.”
The man said, and then Gregor looked at him and asked:
“So, your alias is Donald now?”
“Yes, that’s right. If you’re looking for me, just tell the clerk you want to see Donald,” the man confirmed. Gregor nodded in response.
“I understand. When they allow me to live outside the bureau, I’ll come to see you… By the way, you mentioned that the society has another task for me? What is it?”
Gregor continued to ask Donald, who promptly replied:
“Just a small task to confirm some details. Lord Berlit wants you to keep an eye on the current internal situation of the An Yin Bureau. If they’ve caught someone named Davik Jones, a member of the Wolf bl**d Association, please let me know… Also, Lord Berlit specifically instructed that this task isn’t crucial. Check if you can, but if not, it’s fine. Don’t risk exposure trying to find this guy.”
Donald solemnly told Gregor, and Dorothy felt a shock from afar in her home in Green Shade Town. This Davik Jones of the Wolf bl**d Association… Wasn’t he the Black Tier Beastmaster who had interrogated her teacher according to Adele? Could he have been captured by the An Yin Bureau? And why did the Eight Pinnacle Nest want him?
Thinking about this, Dorothy felt a chill, and then she calmed herself down to control Gregor seriously and ask Donald:
“Davik… Jones… A member of the Wolf bl**d Association? Huh… Are we really going to look for one of their people?”
“Yes, it seems one of their members was captured. Nobody wants to deal with those lunatics, but since they paid, there’s no choice. We have to do our business.”
Donald waved his hand and said. Hearing this, Dorothy understood. The Eight Pinnacle Nest seemed to be in the intelligence business in the hidden world of Tivyán. The Wolf bl**d Association had hired them to find someone. Did the Wolf bl**d Association know how deeply the Eight Pinnacle Nest had infiltrated the An Yin Bureau, thus specially asking them to take action? Had Davik’s disappearance been attributed to the An Yin Bureau by the Wolf bl**d Association?
Dorothy thought about it, suddenly feeling the situation becoming complex, but she did not give up controlling Gregor.
“Mm… I understand. I’ll try to investigate this within the bureau, but just knowing his name doesn’t provide many leads…” Dorothy continued to control Gregor, and Donald quickly replied after some thought.
“Clues? Well, Mr. Berlit did provide one clue. According to the Wolf bl**d Association, this Davik was captured in the South District. So, Mr. Berlit suggested you pay attention to the recent movements of the Hunters in the South District, maybe you can find some clues.”
“In the South District… That’s quite a large area… But anyway, this is a clue.”
Dorothy thought to herself, and while controlling Gregor, she added:
“I understand. I’ll do my best to check. But since I just joined the main bureau, it might be difficult to find anything.”
“That’s alright, sir. Finding this Davik isn’t our primary goal. As Lord Berlit said, it’s good if we find him and can get something from the Wolf bl**d Association. If not, it’s fine. Please don’t take unnecessary risks looking for him.”
Donald reminded, and Dorothy made Gregor nod in agreement.
After a brief discussion, Gregor left quickly after bidding farewell, walking swiftly downstairs.
Leaving the restaurant, Gregor hurried into an empty alley where Dorothy released her control over Gregor. Gregor’s main consciousness could finally regain control of his body.
“Phew… Thank you, Detective.”
With one hand against the wall, Gregor took a deep breath and said. Normally, he wouldn’t be able to handle such a situation of meeting a society member undercover. Just when Donald asked why he hadn’t reverted to his original face yet, he didn’t know what to say. He was glad it was the detective controlling him; he seemed to have a natural talent for acting.
“You’re welcome, Hunter. But I suggest you remember more and observe more when I control you to interact with members of the Eight Pinnacle Nest. There might come a time when I can’t help you, and then you’ll have to rely on yourself.
“Being a Hunter in Tivyán requires more than just bravery in combat.”
As the detective, Dorothy replied to her brother, and Gregor answered seriously:
“I understand. Thank you for your advice, Detective.”
“You’re welcome. Since I promised Lord Patunax to look after you, feel free to pray to Akka and contact me if anything comes up. Goodbye.”
With that final response, the detective’s words faded from Gregor’s mind. Taking a deep breath to adjust his mindset, Gregor walked out of the alley. As he stepped out, a late autumn breeze blew through, making him shiver and sneeze loudly.
“Achoo…
“Ugh… It’s getting chilly. Better head back.”
…
On the other side, in Green Shade Town, Number 17, Dorothy remained seated in front of the fireplace in her living room, staring into the dancing flames. She began to ponder deeply.
“Davik Jones… This guy seems to be the key. From the current situation, he’s missing, and the Wolf bl**d Association thinks he was captured by the An Yin Bureau. They paid the Eight Pinnacle Nest to gather intelligence on the bureau…
“So… Where exactly is this Davik now?”
Dorothy pondered, and after a while, she silently pulled out her “Navigation of the Literary Sea,” placing it on her lap and flipping quickly to Adele’s contact page. After thinking for a moment, she wrote on the page:
“Adele, I need more information about that Davik Jones. Can you provide all the memories related to Davik that your teacher left you through prayer to Akka?”
After writing, Dorothy watched the words sink into the book, then used the Puppet Mark to remind the recipient. Although Adele had previously said that Dalena’s memories of Davik were only useful for interrogation purposes and contained no other valuable information, Dorothy believed she might find more.
