The duel between me and Mathias began, and we faced each other.
Mathias drew the sword from his waist, then slowly stepped back, creating some distance.
“Where are you going?”
“Hmph, I’ll teach you what magic truly is, you magic-less inferior!”
“I can use magic. Enhancement magic and space magic.”
“That’s not real magic.”
Now that I think about it, Sharl mentioned there are people with this kind of mindset. Was he talking about this guy?
“Well then, show me something.”
“Idiot.”
Mathias stopped after maintaining a distance of about ten meters from me. He held his sword in a lower stance.
“That’s so obvious…”
I muttered unintentionally.
In response, Mathias swung his sword.
“Die!”
A blade of wind shot out from the sword Mathias swung and came straight at me. I easily dodged by leaning my upper body away. Watching the wind blade continue its flight and hit the wall, I could see a large crack form, demonstrating its power.
“Wow, that’s impressive… huh?”
I was marveling at the power of the magic upon observing the wall, but then noticed that the damage on the wall disappeared in an instant.
“What was that?”
I turned to look at Ms. Jenny, the referee, while pointing behind me.
“There’s a spell in place for such purposes. Therefore, please feel free to use your magic without restraint.”
Oh, I see…
“Do you not know even that?”
Mathias mocked me.
“I’ve only used it three times today.”
Besides today, it was only during the practical basics test and my fight with Yuika.
“It’s embarrassing for the name of Jakaal to fight such a novice.”
So he actually does care about his reputation…
Well, then how about you adjust your actions.
“Not that I care, but didn’t you say you’d show me some magic? You did, but that stuff wouldn’t hit anyway.”
“Insolent fool! I held back at first!”
While saying that, Mathias swung his sword. Another wind blade came, but it didn’t change speed compared to before, so dodging was easy.
“Missed me!”
“Tsk!”
Mathias cursed and swung his sword twice this time, sending two wind blades my way. However, the result was the same, and I dodged them all easily.
“Mathias, that’s too far away from where you’re standing. There’s no way it would hit.”
To be honest, seeing him swing the sword makes it clear where the blades will go. It’s impossible to hit with something so predictable.
“Shut up!”
Mathias wildly swung his sword multiple times, releasing wind blades. I simply observed which ones had a chance of reaching me and moved only the minimum amount necessary to dodge them.
“That’s impossible…”
“Damn!”
For no clear reason, Mathias took a few more steps back.
“By the way, don’t you have anything else? Just one trick?”
“Infidel! Behold now!”
Mathias pointed his sword upwards. Suddenly, a sharp, large rock appeared at its tip.
“You’re just going to throw it like the last one?”
“Shut up!”
Mathias swung his sword towards me, and the pointed rock flew in my direction. However, it moved much slower than the previous wind blade, and I couldn’t understand what he was trying to accomplish.
“How foolish.”
I kicked the oncoming rock upwards, causing it to shatter into pieces.
“What!?”
This is hopeless. Mathias is weaker than I imagined. His wind blades and rocks thrown from such a distance are completely meaningless. The fact that he doesn’t realize this is the real problem. His mind is only set on casting spells from a safe distance, rendering both his sword and armor meaningless decorations.
“Let’s go!”
I gathered magic into my leg and moved closer to Mathias, narrowing the distance.
“Damn it!”
Mathias swung his sword, sending wind blades. I jumped over them as I reached his position.
“What will you do from here?”
“Shut up!”
Mathias swung his sword up dramatically, leaving his abdomen wide open. I delivered a powerful kick to his exposed abdomen.
“Ugh…”
Though it was quite a strong blow, Mathias merely stepped back a few paces and didn’t fall. Strangely, my leg felt a little numb.
“What a great armor.”
It must have been really expensive.
“Damn!”
Mathias cursed and instantly disappeared.
“Huh?”
I sensed him behind me and turned around to see Mathias standing about ten meters away.
“Fast?”
No, I didn’t see him move at all…
It must be teleportation magic.
“This is transfer magic, inferior.”
Mathias grinned.
“Thank you for telling me.”
Is this guy an idiot?
He just revealed his own tactics.
“Die!”
Mathias swung his sword, sending a straight wind blade my way. He grinned again.
“Too obvious.”
I dodged the wind blade by simply moving my head, then crouched down. Another wind blade flew from behind and passed where my head had been, disappearing.
“What? What’s going on!?”
Seriously, it’s laughable how amateur he is. His eye movements made everything clear, and didn’t he just say he could use teleportation magic?
“Mathias, actually, I can also use teleportation magic.”
“Stop joking, inferior! Transfer magic is an advanced magic!”
Not my problem…
Even Touko’s lighter might be considered advanced magic to me.
“Let’s go!”
I concentrated magic in my right foot and surged forward.
“Eh?”
In an instant, I closed the distance and stood directly in front of Mathias.
“Here!”
“Wha, enhancement magic!? Damn!”
Mathias swung his sword to attack me, but the swing was sluggish, nothing like Frank’s.
Before Mathias finished his swing, I took a step forward and grabbed his sword.
“What!? Ugh! It’s not moving!”
Mathias was trying to push against me with all his might, but he has no strength.
“It’s not going to move.”
Mathematically speaking, Mathias’ magical abilities might be better than mine. I acknowledge that.
However, I have more overall magic power, and I’m channeling all of it into enhancement magic. There’s no way this guy, who’s evidently inexperienced in wielding a sword, can overpower me with force.
“Inferior bastard!”
“Enough. I understand clearly.”
I gripped Mathias’ sword tightly and added pressure. Normally, it could cut my fingers, but with my enhanced strength through magic, my hand remained unscathed. On the contrary, cracks began to appear on the sword, and with one final squeeze, it shattered into pieces.
“Huh? Wha… What…?”
Even with someone right in front of him, Mathias remained dazed, staring at his broken sword.
“Is this okay?”
At my question, Mathias snapped out of it and raised a hand towards me. A fireball shot from his hand. I leaned down to dodge, simultaneously spinning around. Using the momentum from the spin, I delivered a back kick to Mathias’ face.
Mathias was hit cleanly and collapsed onto the ground, lying motionless.
“Ah, did I break his neck?”
I muttered as Mathias’ figure disappeared. Glancing at the audience area, I could see Mathias standing there, dumbfounded, in the front row.
“That’s all! Nagase Tsukasa is the winner!”
As the teacher announced it, a roar erupted from the audience. Looking toward the audience, I realized most of the people causing the fuss were from our class.
With a sigh, I turned around and made my way back.
Hmm… didn’t really learn much from that.
