Chapter 318: Amnesia

Northern Tivyán, Mercy Hospital.

In the underground corridor of the Extraordinary Injury Department at Mercy Hospital, Edmund, wearing a black flat cap and a thick overcoat, walked briskly with a serious look in his eyes. His steps were swift, and several Hunters followed closely behind him, looking flustered. As they walked, Edmund questioned his subordinates.

“When did that guy wake up?”

“Not long ago, about ten minutes ago. As soon as he woke up, I immediately informed you,” replied the Hunter to the captain guarding nearby, who then spoke up again after hearing this.

“You just said he lost his memory? What exactly happened?”

“It’s like this. When Davik woke up, he had a very confused expression. He asked where he was and who we were. Seeing us in Hunter uniforms didn’t elicit any excitement from him. Afterward, we consulted a doctor, who said there’s a possibility he might have amnesia.”

The Hunter continued explaining to Edmund, whose eyebrows furrowed slightly upon hearing this.

“Amnesia… Could his injuries have caused this?”

“Well… According to the doctor, the brain is the place where the spirit and soul reside, the most unpredictable part of the human body. Davik had previously suffered head trauma and lost a lot of bl**d, which affected his brain’s bl**d supply, so it’s possible for such a situation to occur.”

The Hunter reported to Edmund, who did not respond immediately but continued walking swiftly.

“I’ll go take a look first.”

“Yes, Mr. Edmund.”

After walking for a while, Edmund arrived at an open iron door. Looking inside the ward through the door, he saw Davik sitting on the bed, wearing hospital clothes and eating simple food. Next to Davik stood another Hunter, a doctor, and a nun, who was Vania.

Entering the ward, Edmund scrutinized Davik with his gaze. Davik, who was eating, looked back at him with a hint of confusion. After a moment of eye contact, Edmund spoke.

“Did you really forget everything? Davik Jones.”

“Uh… Davik Jones… Is that my name? It seems to have some influence, ah… I feel like someone called me like this before? Could you tell me… Do you know me, sir?”

With confusion and bewilderment, Davik spoke to Edmund. Edmund saw no signs of tension or fear in him. Seeing this, he turned to the doctor and Vania.

“Please wait outside the door for a moment. We need to ask him something.”

Following Edmund’s words, Vania and the doctor nodded and left the ward. After the iron door closed, only Edmund and a few Hunters remained in the small room along with Davik sitting on the bed.

Suddenly, Edmund’s eyes became fierce. He stepped forward and grabbed Davik’s collar tightly, then gritted his teeth and said viciously.

“You bl**d-sucking sc*m, don’t think you can trick me! I know what you’re thinking! You want to pretend to have amnesia to get away? No way! If you tell us the truth now, you might still have a chance to live. Otherwise, I’ll make sure you don’t even know how you died!”

Holding Davik’s collar tightly, Edmund threatened loudly. Davik, caught off guard by this sudden action, looked extremely terrified.

“Sir! Please calm down. I don’t know what you’re talking about… I don’t remember what I did… Please, don’t do this…”

Under Edmund’s threat, Davik said in panic, but Edmund did not stop. Instead, he pulled out a small kn*fe and held it in front of Davik’s eyes, seemingly ready to pierce it into his eyeball.

“I’m giving you one last chance. Don’t play games with me. Confess the truth, or you’ll regret it…”

“I… I really didn’t pretend! Sir! I truly don’t remember anything!” Davik said with a hint of tears, innocent and pleading with Edmund. Seeing this wasn’t working, Edmund resorted to other methods of interrogation.

For a while, Edmund and his Hunter subordinates began a dual physical and psychological interrogation of Davik in the ward. The focus was to confirm whether Davik was faking amnesia. However, no matter how they interrogated him, Davik maintained a panicked demeanor typical of someone with amnesia, showing no signs of breaking.

Fundamentally, interrogation involves putting the subject under both physical and psychological pressure, causing them to break down under extreme stress. But this assumes the subject is genuinely in dire straits. In this case, the one being interrogated was not Davik, but a puppet controlled by Dorothy.

No matter how much pressure Edmund put on Davik, it couldn’t reach Dorothy, who was outside the situation. Davik’s pain couldn’t be felt by Dorothy either. Their threats had no effect on her. As a detached third party, Dorothy could rationally control Davik during the interrogation. After much effort, Edmund and his team finally gave up on the interrogation, almost certain that Davik’s amnesia was genuine.

‘Sigh… Most people are usually disoriented when they first wake up, so it’s unlikely they would quickly come up with the idea of amnesia… This guy really doesn’t remember anything.’

Standing in the ward, Edmund looked at the frightened Davik on the bed and frowned, deeply conflicted. He had finally caught a special member of the Wolf bl**d Association, but unexpectedly, the person had lost their memory.

Clearly, Edmund wouldn’t let this opportunity slip easily. After the interrogation failed, he took out a photo and approached Davik. Seeing Edmund approach, Davik shrank back in fear.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Davik. I apologize for my previous behavior. You need to understand that before losing your memory, you were a criminal. Even if you’ve lost your memory, it doesn’t mean you’re free from punishment. You need to cooperate with our work, try to recall the details in your memory, and provide us with information. Only then can your crimes be partially excused.”

Calming his tone, Edmund said to Davik. Hearing Edmund’s words, Davik seemed slightly relieved. He nodded to Edmund, who then showed him the photo.

“Do you recognize this person?”

Edmund asked Davik, and through Davik’s perspective, Dorothy saw the photo in Edmund’s hand. It was a black-and-white photo of a middle-aged man whom Dorothy recognized—Alexander, the werewolf.

‘These guys… They must have found clues at Alexander’s house and traced Davik’s whereabouts…’

Inside the carriage, Dorothy pondered this thought in her heart. Then, she manipulated Davik to show a pained expression, holding his forehead and saying.

“Ahh… I have some impression… I seem to remember… A wolf… Seeing this photo, I feel like I saw a huge black wolf…”

In the ward, seeing Davik react to the photo, Dorothy felt a surge of hope.
