Chapter 319: Ambush
“Captain, this guy seems to have fainted.”
The hunter reported to Edmond, who then frowned and asked the only medic present, Vania, about the situation.
“Sister Vania, what’s wrong with him?”
“Well… I’m not quite sure. It might be that these things triggered some intense memories, causing him to faint again…”
Vania answered uncertainly. Edmond continued to inquire.
“So, what should we do now? How can we wake him up?”
“Hmm… Sir Captain, I’m here just to prevent his injuries from worsening. I’m not sure about this, but since he’s fainted, the best thing would be to take him back to the hospital for treatment. He might regain his memory when he wakes up again. From his behavior just now, it seems like he remembered something…”
Vania explained to Edmond. After pondering for a moment, Edmond replied.
“Alright, take him back to the hospital. Bring Sister Vania along as well. Once he wakes up again, we’ll see what happens. I need to report on some matters.”
“Yes, sir.”
After a brief response, the hunter carried the unconscious Davik out of the evidence room, followed by Vania. Edmond watched them leave and then walked in another direction.
…
Following the hunter carrying Davik, Vania quickly returned to the escort carriage. She and Davik sat inside, and the carriage was sealed and began moving.
Inside the carriage, Vania remained beside Davik. As the carriage swayed slightly, she breathed a sigh of relief inwardly, then glanced at the unconscious Davik beside her.
“Miss Dorothy went through so much trouble to control this Davik to peek at the evidence room in the An Yin Bureau. He suddenly fainted just now… This must mean Miss Dorothy has achieved her goal.”
She thought to herself. “Phew… Every time I work with Miss Dorothy, it’s so thrilling… Everything she does is so dangerous…”
Reflecting on the past, every time Dorothy took action, it brought high-risk missions, such as confronting White Chalk head-on or reporting her superiors. Although they always succeeded and she benefited greatly, the process was nerve-wracking.
Thankfully, this mission seemed to have been completed successfully without being discovered. All she needed now was to return to the hospital safely.
“I wonder what Miss Dorothy’s true purpose was this time? Is Akka involved in this too?”
Thus, while pondering, Vania followed the carriage leaving the Anonymity Headquarters, heading back to the hospital. The journey would take two or three hours, so bored, Vania began praying, hoping to avoid danger and live peacefully.
The escort carriage from the An Yin Bureau traveled quietly on an unknown road. Inside, it was silent; Davik was unconscious, Vania was praying, and two hunters were idly flipping through magazines.
This quiet scene lasted for about an hour when a loud noise suddenly broke the silence.
“Boom!”
With a tremendous sound of something crashing against the carriage, the entire space jolted. Everyone inside, who had been doing their tasks, was startled by the noise and movement.
“What’s happening!”
A hunter shouted inside the carriage, and urgent responses came from outside.
“It’s beastmen! Beastmen are attacking us!”
Hearing the outside voices, everyone inside was shocked. For these hunters, they knew what beastmen were—monsters created by the abilities of White Chalk tier werewolves, loyal slaves to the wolves!
Being attacked by beastmen meant they were targeted by werewolves!
Someone wanted to rescue the prisoner!
Suddenly, everyone in the carriage understood. The two hunters immediately tensed up, one opening the front door to check the situation.
“We’ll handle them. Sister, please protect the prisoner!”
After saying this, the two hunters stepped out of the moving carriage. Vania froze momentarily before preparing to help.
“Lord… What’s going on now… Wait, I can help… Oh…”
Just then, a hand grabbed her wrist. Vania looked in shock and saw that it was Davik, who should have been unconscious!
“Don’t go out. There are many beastmen outside, probably led by a White Chalk tier werewolf. With so many beastmen and werewolves, your side can’t handle it!”
Through Davik, Dorothy said seriously to Vania. After Vania left the hospital, to better control the Anonymity Headquarters, Dorothy had already instructed the zombie driver to rush towards Vania. By now, Vania’s escort carriage was within ten kilometers of Dorothy’s location. Dorothy was monitoring Vania’s carriage with crow dolls, naturally seeing the forces attacking them.
The few hunters on the carriage plus Vania couldn’t stand a chance. If Vania went out, she would be courting d*ath.
Inside the carriage, Vania stared at the serious Davik, then spoke.
“Is it Miss Dorothy? You said there are werewolves? White Chalk tier werewolves? This means we’re in great danger… No… In that case, I should go out to support them. Instead of waiting to d*e, we should fight.”
Vania said urgently. Dorothy continued through Davik.
“You won’t win! The people outside are about to…”
Before Davik could finish, a huge sound erupted outside the carriage, followed by a cacophony of noises.
Curses, howling winds, gunshots, animal roars… Various horrific sounds mixed together. After a brief moment, the noises unified into human screams and horse neighs. The door at the front of the carriage flew inward, a bloody, mutilated head splattering bl**d onto Vania, turning her pale. This was one of the hunters who had just gone out, and it had only been less than a minute since they left.
Before Vania could say anything, the carriage shook violently with another “boom.” The space tilted, and the carriage began to tilt sideways, causing Vania to lose balance and fall.
