The Sudden Attack
Vania relaxed her tense mood and thanked Dorothy, saying that she wasn’t herself in front of Smith; instead, she was being manipulated by Dorothy with the Puppet Mark.
It was precisely because Dorothy took on the role to help Vania act out the scene that she could perfectly fit the script, making Smith see a church nun who had strayed from the Holy Mother’s teachings, which perfectly matched the lies Dorothy had told through Davik to Smith. Otherwise, without prior coordination, Vania would have been exposed the moment Smith checked on her.
At this very moment, a familiar voice echoed in Vania’s heart.
“Great Akka, please establish a communication link between me and Sister Vania…”
“This is… Miss Dorothyia!”
“Hush… speak softly, you are still in danger. In someone else’s stronghold, who knows where there might be spies…”
Dorothy’s voice continued echoing in Vania’s mind, and after a slight start, Vania realized that Dorothy was communicating with her through Akka’s connection. After glancing around, she quietly spoke in her heart.
“Oh… Miss Dorothyia, when can I get out of here? The werewolf said he was planning to let me go…”
“Yes… He does indeed have that idea now, but you don’t need him to release you. Soon, your rescuer will arrive.”
Dorothy informed Vania through the information channel, causing Vania to pause slightly before asking curiously.
“My rescuer? Is it the Church or the Anonymity Headquarters?”
“Both. These guys intercepted the Anonymity Headquarters’ carriage and caught people from the Church… they have angered both sides. They are about to arrive at the door.”
As she spoke, Dorothy continued to instruct in a serious tone.
“They will be here soon. This villa might become very chaotic in a moment. Smith will first suspect you once he realizes the attack. So, you must protect yourself. If you encounter danger, remember to run right after opening the door. Understand?”
“Understood!”
Swallowing hard, Vania nodded seriously, then sat quietly in her place, anxiously waiting.
…
In the distance from Smith’s villa, on a small path in a dense forest, Dorothy’s carriage continued to race forward. On the carriage, Dorothy, frowning deeply, monitored the entire situation. A hint of worry lingered in her brows.
“The Anonymity Headquarters and the Church need to hurry up, otherwise my ‘Cup’ will run out…”
Observing the distant information, Dorothy thought to herself. Today was the first time she had used a living puppet for such an extended period. The severe consumption of “Cup” by the living puppet was nearly overwhelming her.
Unlike regular zombies, each activation of a living puppet consumed one “Cup,” and it required one every twenty minutes to maintain. The frequent use of living puppets to control Vania and Davik had already depleted much of her “Cup.” Although Dorothy had shortened the manipulation time by stopping the operation on the road, her limited supply of “Cup” was still dwindling.
After helping Adele find her teacher last time, Dorothy’s “Cup” had been reduced to just nine points. On the train, helping Gregor had consumed another four points due to the use of a Breath Symbol, a bl**d-Eating ability, and a living puppet, leaving her with only five points. Today’s series of living puppet operations had almost exhausted these remaining five points, but fortunately, she had some reserves.
In fact, if Dorothy had made Davik truly d*e and controlled a zombie instead, it would have saved a lot of spirituality. However, she never had the opportunity, either being watched by the Hunters or Smith’s men, preventing her from doing so.
With a solemn expression, Dorothy took out her Magic Box and retrieved two pieces of dried meat. These pieces were given by Adele to activate the Breath Symbol, and since Dorothy preferred to use her own spirituality to activate them, she kept them.
Without hesitation, Dorothy ate the two pieces of dried meat, each containing two points of “Cup.” With a replenishment of four points, Dorothy could continue using her abilities.
“Sigh… this time, it was a major depletion of ‘Cup’… I hope the gains will be satisfying…”
After chewing and swallowing the dried meat, Dorothy sighed softly.
…
The wide Moonflow River continued to flow quietly under the night sky. Smith’s villa stood quietly by the riverside, and within its courtyard, security guards patrolled vigilantly.
At this moment, two figures floated above the villa, overlooking the dark building below.
One of them wore the black cloak uniform of a Hunter but did not wear a mask. This was Edmund, one of the commanders of the Anonymity Headquarters stationed in Tivyán. The other wore white robes and armor, with a helmet adorned with the Radiant Church’s sun emblem, looking like a knight.
A gale summoned by a Wind Summoner Priest lifted the two figures into the air, their cloaks flapping wildly. Edmund looked down at the villa and said,
“Knight Anreyus, according to the landmark display, the wolves’ den is below us. We have found our target.”
“We’re finally here. I can hardly wait to purify these hungry wolves. Let’s get started!” the knight known as Anreyus said, his can-like helmet producing a resonant sound.
“Hold on, Knight Anreyus. Most of our people are still on the ground, just completing the encirclement. My people will use wind to conceal their presence and infiltrate for reconnaissance. Once we understand the situation, we will launch the assault.”
Edmund said, and the knight beside him snorted disdainfully.
“Reconnaissance? Hmph, under the light of the Lord, all evil will be revealed!”
Declaring this, the knight named Anreyus took out something and held it over his head. Upon closer inspection, it was a withered human hand.
“Let the glory of the Lord turn to fire, burning away sin, revealing sin!”
As the knight declared, the withered hand in his hand burst into flames. The intense fire enveloped the hand, and within the flames, the eyes in the shadow of his helmet flickered faintly. Seeing the torch-like withered hand, Edmund was surprised and exclaimed,
“This… is the Church’s Hand of Glory?!”
Holding the torch formed by the withered hand, the knight seemed to see everything. After scanning the villa several times, he suddenly laughed loudly.
“Haha! Found the biggest one! Can’t hide anymore? Afraid that ‘Shadow’ will be drained, affecting the battle? Just as well, I want to judge you personally!”
Saying this, the knight called Anreyus extinguished the Hand of Glory, put it away, and drew his long sword.
“The time of purification has come. Holy Son, ignite the sacred flame for me!”
Praying, the knight raised his sword, and then flames erupted from it, hotter than those on the Hand of Glory. Watching this, Edmund was startled and asked,
“Knight Anreyus! What are you doing?”
“What am I doing? Of course, purifying sin! I’ll go ahead first, Captain Edmund!”
Saying this, Anreyus stuck a symbol on his armor, infused it with the essence of “Stone,” instantly doubling its weight. Anreyus’s weight exceeded the limit that Edmund’s wind could support, and he plummeted downward.
Thus, in front of Edmund and countless shocked eyes, the knight wielding the flaming sword transformed into a fiery meteor falling from the sky, trailing a long tail of flames, directly smashing towards Smith’s villa.
“Welcome the purification!!”
