Chapter 4: Auspicious Omen
“YOU LITTLE BRAT! How dare you pee on me!”
Phoenix shot up from her seat, her cheeks blazing red as she pointed at Ming, who was lying in bed with his tiny “trunk” still sticking up.
Qingwan, who was next to Ming, froze for a moment before bursting into tears, wailing loudly and hugging Ming tightly.
Ming snapped out of it too and started bawling just as loudly, the sound deafening.
Xue’er, seeing both Qingwan and Ming crying, felt like joining in but stubbornly pressed her lips together, determined not to let the tears fall.
“You’re still crying?” Phoenix stepped forward, ready to spank this smelly little brat’s bottom.
“WAAAAAAH!”
Lady Qin stepped in to comfort the three children.
In the Spring Scenery Courtyard of the Xu Mansion, eight-month-old Ming was running around on the pebble path with his short legs.
Normally, well-developed babies can walk around the age of one.
“To say nothing of the Grand Scenery Garden, within two months, Miss Xu and Miss Qin will both turn one year old. Preparations will start tomorrow, and all Civil and Military Officials will come—it’ll be bustling with activity.”
Ming noticed that Lady Qin had the scent of gardenias about her.
Hit him? But he’s only five months old, and the First Lady of the Qin household is here. If word got out that I’m holding a grudge against a five-month-old baby, what face would I have left?
As the children gradually stopped crying, Qing saw Phoenix’s pale complexion and quickly approached, her eyes showing a hint of regret: “Fifth Lady, is this the first time Little Ming has peed on an adult?”
After Qing and Phoenix took their daughters away, Suyan sighed deeply in relief and hurried to the bedside to pick up Ming: “Little Ming is fine, don’t worry, Mother will protect you.”
“Hmm.”
“Sister Wang, calm down. Sister Wang actually has great fortune,” Qing said with a smile.
“I know, Mother said concubines bear illegitimate children, they’re no different from servants and maids.”
[Rest assured, no matter how poorly this book performs, I’ll keep writing it unless something like a meteorite hits me. And if I switch again, it’d ruin my reputation.]
Given Ming’s current level of physical activity, even if his half-sister didn’t compete with him for milk, Mother’s supply wouldn’t be enough to meet his consumption needs.
Listening to Qing’s words and looking at her sincere peach-like eyes, Phoenix glanced at Ming on the bed, her expression softening: “I didn’t expect such a saying in your hometown—being accidentally peed on by a baby means overflowing good fortune, a sign of great auspiciousness.”
Am I developing too early? Being able to run at eight months shouldn’t be too excessive, right?
Suyan looked at her son, feeling a sense of understanding, as if she grasped her child’s meaning: “Are you saying you’ll protect Mother in the future?”
“Brother? Is he like Sister Xue’er?” asked the chubby three-year-old boy.
Before anyone realized, another three months had passed.
“Big Sister Qiujun, who is she?” The three-year-old boy in the maid’s arms spoke somewhat awkwardly.
But Ming estimated that he could probably run 100 meters in about 50 seconds?
By now, Ming had also started eating some supplementary foods.
“Replying to Master Three, this is Fifth Lady, and the baby in Fifth Lady’s arms is your brother,” Qiujun answered.
Ming called out and leaned against his mother’s shoulder.
Qing held Phoenix’s hand.
“Ming, slow down, don’t fall.”
“That’s perfect, then let’s go.” Phoenix didn’t care whether it was true or not anymore, just following the situation.
“Mrs. Qin is too kind.” Suyan quickly returned the bow.
“The last time our Qingwan accidentally peed on my personal maid Xiaqing, my husband was upset for several days~”
Don’t hit him? I’ve been peed on by this kid, and it’s hard to vent my frustration.
“Sister Wang might not know, but in our hometown, there’s a belief—if someone is unintentionally peed on by a baby’s urine, it signifies overflowing good fortune, a sign of great auspiciousness.”
“Then, Fifth Lady, we’ll take our leave. Another day, Sister can learn more from Fifth Lady.” Qing bowed to Suyan.
After several months of development, Ming can now lift fifteen pounds with both arms, his abdominal muscles faintly visible, and his running speed…
There’s no stopwatch here, so Ming can’t measure it properly.
Suyan looked up curiously and met Qing’s charming peach-like gaze.
“Grandma says that this courtyard will be connected to the neighboring Qin residence to create a Grand Scenery Garden.”
“This is similar, but there are differences,” explained another maid nearby.
“Isn’t that right?” Qing nodded. “Sister Wang, after a while, you can bathe with Purple Dragon Flowers, which will bring blessings to your husband and children. I have Purple Dragon Flowers; if you don’t mind, you can bathe at my place.”
Phoenix glanced sideways at Qing, who was comforting the three children, unsure whether to hit or not to hit.
[Running one meter, leg strength +1, endurance +1]
Seeing the First Lady about to hit her son, Suyan’s face turned pale as she quickly blocked her child, placing her hands in front of her and bowing slightly: “Little Ming is young and doesn’t understand manners. Please forgive him, Mrs. First Lady, don’t hold it against him.”
At the same time, Suyan, who was following behind Ming, saw the little boy and quickly picked up Ming, stepping forward and bowing slightly to the three-year-old boy: “This humble woman greets Third Young Master.”
A boy of about three years old was surrounded by several maids and walked toward Ming’s direction.
Seeing Mother’s fierce look, Xue’er finally burst into tears.
“Great fortune?” Phoenix’s chest rose and fell dramatically, but since the other party was the First Lady of the Qin household, she couldn’t lose her temper. “Sister Qing, why does this mean great fortune?”
“Yes,” Suyan continued according to Qing’s words, “it indeed is Ming’s first time peeing on an adult.”
[Running one meter, leg strength +1, endurance +1]
Every step Ming ran made him stronger.
Phoenix’s raised hand paused mid-air.
“Awooo~” Ming cried out again.
“Good boy Ming,” Suyan hooked Ming’s nose, smiling until tears wet her eyes, “then Ming must grow up healthy and strong, becoming a real man~”
“Awooo~”
“Third Young Master~ isn’t this courtyard beautiful?”
Just as Ming was running around in the courtyard, the melodious laughter of women came from not far away.
It’s really time to write a complete book.
