Chapter 040: Master’s Warning of Murderous Intent
Even though they could leave the Shadow World after achieving their mission objectives, neither Dekan nor Cornelia chose to leave immediately.
They played until the time ran out and were reluctantly teleported out of the Demon Academy.
Finally, with their reluctant expressions, the Shadow World welcomed the settlement phase.
After being teleported out of the Shadow World, they temporarily found themselves in a small independent space, akin to a small room.
This was a liminal space between the Shadow World and the real world.
Dekan could see a Void Gate on the wall of the room, stepping through which would presumably allow them to completely leave the Shadow World.
Soon, the mission interface began to update.

[Reward Settlement: Rank Increase (Dekan from 2nd to 3rd rank, Cornelia retains 3rd rank), Bachelor’s Terror Heart (5th rank rare material), Olive’s Ultimate Madness (4th rank epic spell card), Olive’s Poisonous Scorpion Tail (6th rank epic material)]
“Eh? It directly boosted the epic reward.”
Compared to his rank increase, Dekan paid more attention to their rewards.
[Olive’s Ultimate Madness]
[Type: Spell Card]
[Grade: Orange Epic]
[Rank: 4]
[Effect: After use, significantly boosts physical abilities for 30 seconds, while enhancing agility and perception skills.]
[Note: Olive uses this skill for more than just combat.]
Dekan was somewhat amazed at the three items floating in front of them, picking them up.
Among these were an orange-glowing card, a green crystalline heart, and a scorpion tail radiating danger.
Magic cards can either be crafted by Card Masters or naturally produced in the Shadow World.
However, the latter happens with an extremely low probability.
The Shadow World more commonly drops materials for crafting magic cards.
Normally, after clearing a Rank 4 shadow world, one might obtain a blue or purple 4th-rank material.
Their rich rewards were most likely related to their outstanding performance in the Demon Academy.
“Cornelia, how about this card goes to you, and I’ll take the other two materials?”
Dekan proposed.
“Alright.”
Cornelia readily agreed.
Subsequently, Dekan gave [Olive’s Ultimate Madness] to Cornelia.
Cornelia took the card, looking at the orange-rank epic card with great joy.
She had never seen a natural 4th-rank epic magic card before!
She hadn’t even imagined that completing a run of the Shadow World would yield such an epic card.
It felt like a dream.
This card suited her perfectly.
Eh, except for the slightly odd description.
“Ah, it’s time to go back to school.”
Thinking about going back to school, Dekan couldn’t help but sigh.
“Ah.”
Cornelia also had a tinge of sentiment.
Carrying their spoils, they left the liminal space.
Spoils from the liminal space did not require binding, and they could take them back to the real world.
They stepped into the Void Gate in front of them and returned to the Shadow World connection point within Hewenlit Academy.
…
Two days had passed since their return from the Shadow World.
Dekan and Cornelia had garnered quite a bit of attention from the school.
Because they carried the Shadow World observation program, the school did not need them to supplement records regarding the details with the Reincarnation Cultists.
The logistics department had already prepared the required documentation for the kingdom.
Of course, regarding the bounty on the Faceless Man, they would still need to personally handle the paperwork.
After class today, Dekan and Cornelia quickly went to the Kingdom Union’s Norton Kingdom branch to collect their bounty.
They had one important matter left: splitting the rewards.
“After taxes, we have 264 gold coins left. Subtracting the pre-battle prep and card losses from this Shadow World which amounted to about 12 coins, we’re left with 252 coins. Let’s keep 52 coins as team funds in our squad bank account, and the rest can be split equally—how does 100 each sound?”
Dekan, holding a little notebook while accounting, spoke to Cornelia.
“Fine.”
Cornelia didn’t want to deal with numbers.
Let Dekan handle the accounts—she trusted him fully.
“When the gentleman’s loot, ahem, donation comes through, we can divide it again.”
Dekan closed his accounting book happily. This trip had been highly profitable.
Most importantly, he had confirmed with the Master that [Olive’s Poisonous Scorpion Tail] could be used in the repair of [Master].
Dekan still needed to collect at least four 6th-rank and above demon-type epic materials.
Additionally, he himself had to reach the 6th rank before being able to start the Master’s repair and resurrection.
The remaining four demon-type materials were likely going to be bought.
After all, one doesn’t always encounter demon-type bosses, and even then, defeating them isn’t always assured.
However, these high-rank epic materials were exorbitantly priced.
Dekan would have to continue his efforts to earn money if he wanted to gather all the materials.
For the day when he could finally see the true face of this demon elder.
“Hm?”
Dekan suddenly sensed a voice in his heart.
“Ah, teacher, you’re awake?”
Dekan immediately sent a mental reply.
Master: “What were you thinking just now?”
Dekan: “I was daydreaming about your extraordinary beauty.”
Master: “…” *Don’t let me hear those three words again.”
Dekan: “What?? Not even ‘beautiful girl’?”
The Master remained silent for a moment.
She felt that Dekan was becoming increasingly shameless.
“I’m going to sleep.”
With this mental note, Dekan’s mind fell silent again.
He finally exhaled a breath of relief.
He didn’t dare to anger this… beauty.
