Chapter 414: The First Encounter with the Fairies (Please Subscribe!)
Izay stared from several kilometers away at the sight of two girls battling a monster sheep, awkwardly standing in place as a faint sense of guilt welled up inside him.
Because, strictly speaking, it was his doing that brought these monsters here.
Earlier, while wandering through the desert with nothing to do, he had inadvertently sensed a massive monster nest beneath the ground and, for no particular reason, unleashed a “Celestial Movement of All Things” to blow it sky-high.
Facing the counterattack of a large group of monsters, he dropped another Celestial Movement, wiping out more than half their numbers.
In the process, Izay discovered that these monsters possessed a degree of rapid regeneration.
A batch of self-repairing live targets immediately piqued his interest.
Thinking that he might as well have some fun while searching for signs of civilization, he decided to herd these monsters around for entertainment.
Whenever they regenerated, Izay would unleash another Celestial Movement.
These monsters appeared to possess ability values close to the upper echelons of Level 4. With their powerful regenerative abilities, they could probably tangle with an average Level 5, but their main advantage lay in their sheer numbers.
However, most of them could only withstand one of Izay’s Celestial Stars.
After all, the damage they sustained couldn’t be immunized. In gaming terms, one Celestial Star could kill them N times over.
The few that survived by chance were entirely due to Izay giving them enough time to regenerate and absorb the remains of their fallen comrades, making them tougher.
As a result of this, a small portion of the monsters seemed to have learned their lesson. After regenerating, they fled without hesitation, diving underground.
This indirectly accelerated Izay’s encounter with the people of this world.
“Though the current state of the people of this world seems rather dire… It feels somewhat unkind of me to just stand by and watch…”
Izay scratched his head.
Sending the monsters over and watching them struggle felt almost villainous.
Gripping the spear Yetsha, its star-patterned glow brightened as if in agreement.
And in his mind, the two little ones berated him as a “worthless father.”
“I suppose I should clean up this mess. After all, it’s my fault.”
“Hmm, those two girls seem oddly familiar…”
Transforming Yetsha into a longbow, Izay gathered a magical arrow, its tip glowing with a surging indigo magic.
After careful aim, ensuring his attack wouldn’t harm the two girls, Izay released the bowstring.
The arrow shot forth with great speed.
Carrying a trail of magical fire, it streaked toward the battlefield several kilometers away.
The phenomenon began with a flash of blinding light.
Before anyone could react, the light violently pierced the brutal battlefield.
At the perfect moment, the arrowhead erupted with intense light, forming an indigo pillar that surged against the desert sands. The impact shook the air, and the ensuing divine wind swept across the entire area.
“—What!?”
“What’s going on? Where did that attack come from!?”
On the battlefield where Laentoluca fought the Sixth Hunt, she was the one who felt the impact most deeply.
That flash had just grazed past her slim waist!
If she’d been hit, there’d be no telling what would’ve happened!
It even made her think that a new beast had appeared, and that the previous attack’s target had been her.
Of course, it was merely an illusion.
The thought vanished mere seconds after it arose.
When the fierce winds finally subsided, the towering pillar of light dispersed into tiny specks of light, silently falling to the ground.
Along with the pillar, large portions of the Sixth Beasts’ bodies disintegrated.
The Sixth Beast horde that had put Laentoluca and Nafude into a tough fight was wiped out in a single strike, with no signs of regeneration!
“That’s terrifying…”
At the tent established for salvaging ruins, a young man of the green-skinned “Green Demon Tribe” took a deep breath.
This location was very close to the airship about to take off, with the tents set up directly below it.
The Green Demon had stayed here intending to persuade more salvage team members to board the airship but instead witnessed the earlier spectacle.
Though not particularly powerful, his sharp eyes, honed through numerous salvage experiences, discerned the direction of the attack.
A slightly elevated sand dune stood out, with a vague black dot atop it.
“Are you kidding me? That place is at least several ‘mauris’ away…”
Similarly noticing the trajectory were two golden fairies in the air, who had a better vantage point to observe the ground and saw the mysterious black dot more clearly.
Nafude’s casual mention of “mauri,” a length unit of the floating continents corresponding to one meter, lingered in the air.
“Isn’t it… monster reinforcements?”
Laentoluca, however, was more concerned with the identity of the attacker.
While they were still stunned, Izay had already drawn his bow a second time, sharper indigo brilliance flashing as an arrow charged with “magic” traced a gentle curve through the air.
Covering an immense distance, it avoided the two hovering girls and reached the monster horde.
Instantly, the desert erupted with the sounds of wood being split and shattered.
The magical storm tore through the sandy ground, ripping open a massive fissure!
Like a meteor, the arrow swept all the monsters in its path and caused a massive explosion upon impact, raising a thick indigo pillar of light.
Then came the third arrow.
With one final sweep, the last direction of monsters was also cleared, as if Izay were simply sweeping dust with a broom.
More than a hundred, perhaps even two hundred Sixth Beasts, were annihilated in three attacks.
Laentoluca and Nafude forgot to maintain their magical wings, descending slowly as their colorful feathers gradually disappeared.
“Nafude… What… is that?”
Letting the holy sword “Desperation” hang loosely by her side, Nafude pointed with her free hand at the distant “black dot” seemingly approaching them, unable to resist asking her companion.
Upon hearing this, Laentoluca’s eyelids drooped slightly, her expression hesitant. After much deliberation, she softly spoke.
“…You ask me, but who should I ask!?’
“Ah, well… I figured since you read so much, maybe you’d recognize that thing (referring to Izay).”
Nafude gestured again toward the “black dot.”
“That thing really is coming our way! What should we do!?”
“Nafude, why are you panicking? Since he helped us, it means he doesn’t mean us harm.”
At least not temporarily. Laentoluca added silently in her mind.
Seeing this, she glanced at Nafude, who had already half-hidden behind her, and a flicker of disdain crossed her delicate features.
(If I’ve already said that, why are you still so scared?)
(Fear isn’t useful when facing such an existence…)
Unaware of Laentoluca’s thoughts, Nafude leaned against her and squinted her eyes.
“—Look! Laentoluca, as it gets closer, we can vaguely see its face! It looks like us—could it be a Markless One? A Markless One on land… Could it be the legendary humans? Or even the hero celebrated in stories!?”
“I’m not a hero, though I may have the potential to become one.”
As the girl’s words faded, the reply didn’t come from her companion but from the unfamiliar voice of a man.
Startled by the sudden sound, both girls skipped a heartbeat, reacting with adorable feline-like frights.
Looking closely, where was the shadow of that “black dot” they had seen before?
And the voice had come from behind them…
Tense and rigid like they had seen a ghost, the two girls slowly turned their necks.
Then, they met the smiling gaze of a blonde youth.
“Hello there, my name is Izay, Izay Alward. Out of curiosity, could you tell me your names?”
