Chapter 409: Trouble
Lin Nuo stood before his two friends from the ocean.
As the saying goes, “A friend from afar is always a welcome sight.”
Lin Nuo quickly assessed the combat strength of the two Sea Domain Dragon Clan warriors. They possessed immense power but lacked speed. While they ranked among the strong on land, they were not as terrifying as legends suggested—defeating a hundred foes single-handedly and sweeping through armies was merely folklore.
Inevitably annoyed by Lin Nuo’s skepticism, the Sea Domain Dragon Clan warriors imagined tearing him into a thousand pieces. However, despite their attempts, they couldn’t lay a finger on him, maintaining a delicate distance that kept them from getting too close. They could see Lin Nuo, but getting to him remained impossible.
Chasing after him, Lin Nuo had already lured them far from Ru Yu Village.
To deal with them, his only option was to set up a formation. After all, their sheer power meant a head-on clash wouldn’t yield favorable results. Hidden weapons were useless too; their bodies were like iron, utterly rigid.
Yet, arranging a formation required time. With them hot on his tail, he needed a way to shake them off before laying out a quick formation to obliterate them in one go.
A short formation, by definition, comes swiftly and departs just as quickly—a short-term trap that lasts only a brief moment yet delivers stunning damage.
Boom!
Another violent explosion echoed as the furious Sea Domain Dragon Clan warriors landed and ran amok, recklessly using Spirit Techniques to destroy nearby jungles and homes, igniting intense flames.
But this was no longer Ru Yu Village; they weren’t demolishing the houses and trees of Ru Yu Village, which Lin Nuo paid no mind to.
In fact, it looked rather spectacular—the fierce flames burning everything to ash, symbolizing complete annihilation.
In a sense, they were also villains, but the righteous could bicker amongst themselves, and as for the villains, this was clearly an internal conflict.
Lin Nuo weaved through the mountains, circling around until the two dragon warriors grew increasingly agitated. Finally, one accelerated and vanished from sight.
“Where did he go?”
In their fervent chase, they discovered Lin Nuo had suddenly disappeared right before their eyes.
“There he is!”
They spotted Lin Nuo again, but it was clear at a glance that it wasn’t him; it was just an illusion.
“This human is nimble, but his Spirit Technique is surprisingly weak. Such low-level illusions can be easily seen through.”
The Sea Domain Dragon Clan warriors’ eyes widened as if invisible beams shot from their gaze, sweeping through Lin Nuo’s shadow, which instantly vanished.
“So what level is this human? He can use such rudimentary Spirit Techniques?”
“He can only run; he dares not confront us head-on. Looks like we’ve been fooled; he just wants to lead us away.”
“Humans are indeed cunning. The long siege of the mainland by the old seniors was also a result of human trickery, showing their cleverness despite lacking real strength.”
As they chastised Lin Nuo for avoiding confrontation, it dawned on them that maybe they’d fallen for his delaying tactics. He was dragging out the time.
“Here he comes again, his shadow.”
Several more illusions sprang up and darted around them, but once again, the sharp eyes of the Sea Domain Dragon Clan warriors made quick work of them.
Yet more and more illusions kept appearing, flooding in like a wholesale supply of shadows, never-ending.
“What kind of person is this? His shadows seem unlimited.”
They both grew impatient. Although it took just a glance to disperse each one, their sheer number was overwhelming, with each shadow performing movements that repulsed them.
They raised their middle fingers.
Being unaware of its meaning, it simply felt filled with malice—an extreme show of disdain for the warriors.
Can they stand for this?
Had these been puppets, they would have smashed them within moments, but shadows pass through punches and kicks, completely ineffective against them.
Meanwhile, Lin Nuo scouted for a good spot to set up a short formation, aiming to lure them and cook up some delectable seafood. He planned to crank up the intensity to the max.
However…
He caught sight of explosive fireworks soaring into the sky—it was a distress signal from Ruo’er.
These were fireworks Lin Nuo had provided Ruo’er; she had become an Immortal with her excellent spiritual roots and skills, capable of using Immortal Techniques. He had entrusted her with helping his mother escape and instructed her to fire the fireworks if they reached a critical point.
Now that she had set them off, something had gone wrong.
Setting up a formation required time, so he abandon the plan and hurried back to Ru Yu Village at breakneck speed.
It couldn’t just be the two Sea Domain Dragon Clan members; there must be more.
…
Currently, Ruo’er and Su Kexin were tasked with guiding Xia Hanmo and the others to flee. Ruo’er summoned Immortal Beasts like white foxes and white tigers, ready to serve as mounts, while the carts parked in the village could also transport them away.
As they passed by the temple, some villagers who hadn’t attended Lin Nuo’s lecture remained, kneeling before the statue of the Sea God, Walker, in prayer.
However, the temple’s Master, after being pushed out by Lin Nuo, had already been taken out by the Sea Domain Dragon Clan, and his disciples had fled opportunely.
Still, some villagers clung stubbornly to hope, believing the Sea God would come to save them.
“The Sea God will definitely come.”
Hearing this, Xia Hanmo came to a halt.
“Madam, what’s wrong? Are you planning to pray to the Sea God’s statue?”
“No, Nuo’er said our destiny is in our own hands.”
Xia Hanmo gazed seriously at the temple, stating,
“Perhaps there really is no Sea God; it’s merely self-deception.”
Rushing into the temple, Xia Hanmo addressed the villagers who stayed behind:
“Dear fellow villagers, please lend me your ears! The Sea God is but a figment of our imagination; disaster looms with foreign invaders attacking Ru Yu Village. We must flee or we’ll be buried here!”
But a villager countered:
“The Sea God will come to save us! We’ve thrived for generations in Ru Yu Village; this is the proof!”
“Lin Madam, we appreciate your kindness, but to suggest the Sea God does not exist is blasphemy! Quickly apologize to the Sea God, or we shall suffer divine retribution!”
It was no easy task to change the mindset of all the villagers, yet Xia Hanmo persisted in trying to sway them.
“Madam! It’s bad! We need to run now!”
Ruo’er exclaimed, startled. Another explosion erupted, destroying her scouting Immortal Beasts.
“It looks like there’s some good prey here.”
At that moment, a member of the Sea Domain Dragon Clan emerged from the foliage, a blue glowing knife in his right hand, which suddenly transformed back into his original arm.
“These spirit beasts are fine; they’re excellent resources on land.”
Having slain Ruo’er’s Immortal Beasts, the dragonman collected the soul fragments from them.
“Ruo’er, you all run! I’ll handle him.”
Justice ablaze, Su Kexin pulled out the silver Phoenix Sword, her eyes bright with anger.
