Chapter 415: Don’t Ask Why We Chose
Eastern Sea Dragon Palace.
Eastern Sea Dragon King Ao Zhi stood with his hands behind his back, gazing at the fifty-meter-tall Dragon King Teng before him.
The Eastern Sea Dragon King’s eyes were half-closed, as if lost in deep thought, perhaps still hesitating over whether or not to proceed with his current course of action.
“Are you sure the plan will succeed?”
Ao Zhi asked a woman standing nearby.
The woman wore a red dress, her long hair flowing down past her waist. At her waist hung a red jade flute. Her face was fair and delicate, her skin smooth, giving off an aura of gentle elegance.
Mei Hongyu smiled faintly. “At this point, does it even matter if our plan succeeds or fails? From Your Majesty’s perspective, what difference would it make? Do you truly believe that after today, the one from the Northern Sea will let you go unscathed?”
“…” The Eastern Sea Dragon King remained silent, but his frown deepened.
“Your Majesty should stop pondering other matters. There is an old saying on the Central Plains – once the arrow is released, there’s no turning back. Since we’ve already made our choice, there’s no need to question why.”
Mei Hongyu spoke with calm, decisive words.
Ao Zhi looked at the woman before him. “If your Zhongyan Shan deceives me, the entire Eastern Sea will wage war against you until the end!”
“Your Majesty, please rest assured. Our Zhongyan Shan values integrity above all else. Throughout history, we have never broken our word to anyone. Otherwise, I doubt Your Majesty would collaborate with us.” Mei Hongyu replied calmly.
“Hmph!” Ao Zhi snorted coldly, saying nothing more, only continuing to stare at the Dragon King Teng.
“Hongyu understands what concerns weigh on Your Majesty’s mind – namely Prince Ao Jin and Princess Ao Yiner who are still at the Northern Sea Dragon Palace. Should anything happen, the Dragon Empress certainly wouldn’t spare them. But Your Majesty, to achieve great ambitions, one mustn’t dwell on trivialities.
Moreover, our people from Zhongyan Shan have already gone to the Northern Sea and will do everything within their power to ensure the safe return of Prince Ao Jin and Princess Ao Yiner. That said, rescuing them from under the ancient empress won’t be easy. We can only promise to try our best. If we fail, please don’t blame us. I believe when Your Majesty made this decision, you were already prepared for such outcomes.”
Mei Hongyu reiterated Ao Zhi’s concerns.
Ao Zhi maintained his silence.
By now, Ao Zhi was fully aware that choosing to cooperate with Zhongyan Shan meant aligning himself with the Southern Demon Realm. When the great conflict arises, he and the human race would become enemies!
“The time has come, Your Majesty, we must begin,” Mei Hongyu reminded.
“I know.”
Even so, the Eastern Sea Dragon King Ao Zhi still felt a surge of frustration, unsure whether this bitterness was directed at others or at himself.
Ao Zhi stepped forward, took out a small knife, and sliced his finger. Blood flowed from Ao Zhi’s fingertip, dripping onto the magic array below.
The array beneath the Dragon King Teng emitted dazzling light, which gathered upward, finally concentrating on the Dragon King Teng itself. This light condensed into a pale yellow liquid, filling the entirety of the Dragon King Teng.
What had been mere dragon carvings began to seem as though they might take flight from the Dragon King Teng.
“Roar!”
Dragon roars echoed throughout the palace. Illusions of massive dragons spiraled around the hall, their cries vast like the ocean, reverberating through the entire Imperial Palace.
Mei Hongyu bent down and reached toward a basin on the ground. Inside the basin was a fish. This fish had sharp teeth, a golden body, and two whiskers at its mouth. It looked almost identical to the fish Prince Ao Jin had kept in a pond.
Mei Hongyu carefully picked up the fish and brought it before the Dragon King Teng. She then took out a small knife, chopping off the fish’s head. Fish blood dripped continuously onto the Dragon King Teng, and even without its head, the fish continued to thrash about.
As the fish bled, Mei Hongyu recited a spell.
After a short while, every last drop of the fish’s golden blood had been absorbed by the Dragon King Teng.
Mei Hongyu chanted a Dharma Decree.
The fish blood absorbed by the Dragon King Teng transformed into strands of gold wire that coiled and spread upward, binding the dragon patterns on the Dragon King Teng like ropes.
“Roar!”
The dragon roars grew louder, as if trying to break free, struggling fiercely.
The golden wires binding the dragon patterns tightened further, seemingly ready to snap at any moment.
Just then, the Eastern Sea Dragon King took out his imperial seal. The seal floated upward, emitting light that stabilized the golden wires and suppressed the carvings on the totem.
Finally, the dragon roars faded completely, and all the dragon patterns lay still upon the Dragon King Teng.
At the same time, at the Northern Sea Dragon Palace, the Dragon Empress slowly ascended.
Ming raised his head to look up—not intentionally, but Ming couldn’t help but notice the bottom of the Dragon Empress’s skirt. However, Ming saw nothing. The Dragon Empress would never commit such a low-level mistake.
Your gaze could only reach her feet; anything higher was pitch black, like looking into a void.
Though everyone wondered why the Dragon Empress had shared this information, it was clear she had her reasons. No one dared to question her motives, content instead to remain bystanders.
Approaching the illusion of the Dragon King Teng, the Dragon Empress took a deep breath, gathering her spiritual energy at her fingertips.
Finally, she extended her hand and lightly tapped the illusion of the Dragon King Teng.
Instantly, the entire Dragon King Teng began to tremble.
“Go!”
Simultaneously, the Dragon Empress of the Northern Sea and Ao Zhi of the Eastern Sea each raised their fingers in their respective palaces.
The illusion of the Dragon King Teng stretched endlessly, transforming into a beam of light that shot skyward, its end pointing toward the Eastern Sea.
At the same time, the Dragon King Teng in the Eastern Sea, as if drawn by some unseen force, rose from the ground and flew toward the Northern Sea.
