Chapter 42: Swift Wind Combo, One-Shot

A series of actions on a human would make sense, but on a monster—

Perhaps the Ancient Dragon Person only felt an eerie solemnity?

Jié Jié thought this as he tossed a walnut onto the ground in front of him to test it, like enticing a timid kitten or puppy with food.

Seeing the walnut that could pass as a natural fragmentation grenade thrown out, the Ancient Dragon Person lightly jumped back, allowing Jie Jie to see the reverse-bowed legs hidden under the straw cloak, a physiological structure distinct from humans in the Dragon People Tribe.

But since the walnut didn’t crack open and the force was light, it didn’t explode like a fragmentation grenade.

The Dragon Person glanced at the walnut on the ground, then seemed to shift his gaze back to observe him.

Jié Jié awkwardly scratched his head, while the little old man bent down to pick up the walnut, wiped it off, and put it away.

They returned to their state of staring at each other. Jie Jie didn’t know what to do, while the Ancient Dragon Person’s obvious curiosity was clear; he was making the most direct observation possible.

The Dragon People possess extraordinary intelligence, which often comes with curiosity, and through curiosity, develops into wisdom.

The Ancient Dragon Person must be a Dragon Person, for this race generally has a much longer lifespan.

Most Dragon People reach adulthood with a body size similar to normal humans, though there are some exceptionally large ones. However, they tend to shrink with age until they’re about the same size as beastmen.

At such times, the wisdom of the Dragon People usually peaks with experience, earning them respect as elders.

Though the Ancient Dragon Person’s face was obscured and couldn’t be seen, judging by the build and the exploratory team’s title, he was clearly an elder.

Some rain was blown inside, hitting the Ancient Dragon Person.

“Grunt.”

The Sky Dog Beast waved its hand, inviting him to come over for shelter from the rain with its alien soul.

“…”

The Ancient Dragon Person said something, but Jie Jie couldn’t understand, so he just spread his hands and shook his head, his facial expression easily conveying confusion.

The Ancient Dragon Person understood, paused for a moment, and then approached slowly driven by curiosity, his gaze constantly shifting between Jie Jie and the baby Fire Dragon.

Jie Jie sniffed and was surprised to find that the Ancient Dragon Person had no strong biological smell, and with his emerald green appearance, he was extremely hard to spot in the forest.

The Ancient Dragon Person walked under the wall, and the two were like strangers waiting at a bus stop together in the rain, silent. But the Ancient Dragon Person kept staring at him, making Jie Jie uncomfortable and wanting to respond.

Iron Pot lifted its wings to get closer to the Ancient Dragon Person, but Jie Jie directly grabbed its tail with his own tail.

However, the Ancient Dragon Person moved closer instead, his gaze sweeping up and down as if completing his observation of the young Fire Dragon.

“Hoo~”

A roar indicated that more creatures wanted to take shelter from the rain—not just the Dragon Person and the Sky Dog Beast.

A wet-feathered Scratcher Bird burst in and roared at them.

It showed as much interest in Jie Jie as the Ancient Dragon Person did, but its attention was mostly on the bag of eggs.

This Scratcher Bird was much larger than the first one Jie Jie encountered, with the young dragons not even reaching its knee.

The Sky Dog Beast, about the same size as it, approached with covetous eyes toward the eggs.

Food had arrived.

Jie Jie patted his pocket; he had brought plenty of those natural fragmentation grenades.

A perfectly aimed walnut exploded right on the Scratcher Bird’s head, causing it to instinctively close its eyes from the splashing shell fragments.

Staggering, it opened its eyes again to find the strange creature already leaping and hugging its long neck.

As Jie Jie hugged the Scratcher Bird’s neck, his powerful and flexible long tail tightly coiled around one of its front claws and locked onto its shoulder.

The Sky Dog Beast’s beak clamped onto the Scratcher Bird’s neck, but due to weak bite force, it couldn’t pierce its throat.

Realizing its vital parts were locked, the Scratcher Bird wildly flailed and struggled fiercely.

Meanwhile, the two young dragons, now free from restraint, finally approached the Ancient Dragon Person.

Though they didn’t bite, out of caution, the Ancient Dragon Person skillfully swung his staff, repeatedly knocking it against the heads of the two young dragons before deftly retrieving it.

The two young dragons couldn’t advance, growled lowly, and retreated.

This allowed the Ancient Dragon Person to notice that these two hadn’t grown all their teeth yet, refocusing his attention back to Jie Jie who was entangled with the Scratcher Bird.

Turning his head, he saw the Sky Dog Beast release its beak, instead lifting its claw and smashing it onto the Scratcher Bird’s face.

The clawed tail regained its footing, and Jie Jie exerted his strength, unleashing the brute power of a reptile not typical of fanged beasts, flipping the Scratcher Bird onto the muddy ground.

The Sky Dog Beast, known as a martial monk, used its arm to press the Scratcher Bird into the soggy mud with great force. The other arm raised into a fist, repeatedly striking the bird’s eye sockets.

Even though the Sky Dog Beast was covered in fur, showing no muscles, it exuded a savage aura akin to Lu Zhishen beating Zhen Guanxi.

Lu Zhishen eventually became a martial monk too, swift wind combo, one-shot.

After several consecutive heavy strikes, the Scratcher Bird had no chance of recovery, only able to die amidst groans.

The Sky Dog Beast was playful, fierce in fights, and highly aggressive.

Jie Jie restrained himself from the inertia of his actions, resisting the urge to hit the corpse’s head a few more times, dragging the Scratcher Bird’s corpse back to its original position.

Wood Ladle and Basin were pinned down by Jie Jie’s tail, unable to move despite trying. Iron Pot and Porcelain Bowl, however, had retreated under their wings, only to be drawn out again by the Scratcher Bird’s corpse, climbing onto it and attempting to feed with their weak claws and teeth.

Turning his head, the Ancient Dragon Person was still observing him.

After getting wet during the fight, he used his tail to support himself, shaking his body to shake off the water droplets from his fur.

“…”

The Ancient Dragon Person emitted another series of sounds, his gaze following Jie Jie as he watched him tear the scales off the Scratcher Bird, pull off chunks of meat, and knead them into balls to feed the baby Fire Dragons.

“Grunt grunt~”

A piece of meat was torn off by Jie Jie, held in his hand, and offered to the Ancient Dragon Person.

The Dragon Person stared at the meat, the curtain of his hat swaying as he shook his head to refuse.

Jie Jie retracted the offered meat, instead kneading some meatballs and eating them himself.

Looking down, he saw a stick extending towards him—it was the Ancient Dragon Person’s staff, and on the knob of the staff rested a lumpy black object with a waxy surface.

Jie Jie extended two fingers to pinch this irregularly shaped pill, holding it up to examine it closely.

It was definitely a Secret Medicine, but whether it was ancient or not was uncertain.

Secret Medicine is a type of drug hunters can mix and use in games, capable of increasing and fully restoring a hunter’s stamina.

Ancient Secret Medicine, aside from its effect on stamina, also maximizes and completely restores endurance.

Both are indispensable drugs in hunting, good stuff, but he wasn’t sure if it would work for him.

How was Secret Medicine mixed again? Jie Jie recalled.

Bitter Worms and Blue Mushrooms combined to form a nutrient agent, then honey is added to enhance it to Great, and finally, Mandrake mushrooms are added.

It should be something like that, pay attention to the materials. Next time you meet the Ancient Dragon Person, ask him to mix it on the spot and show you.
