Chapter 42: Are These Guys Getting Addicted to Gambling?
“I’m so sorry! I promise I won’t do this again next time!”
Ailin was now kneeling on the ground, a sign reading “Mischievous Bad Kid” hanging around her neck. She was sincerely apologizing to Aierjisi and Yake, the two she had pranked.
“Is there even going to be a next time?”
Aierjisi frowned, a weird gleam in her eyes. Oh boy, does that mean she’s planning another prank on them next time?
“Uh, no, no, there’s no next time! I won’t pull any more pranks ever again!”
Ailin realized her mistake and kept apologizing while holding her head, especially since Aierjisi had just given her a good whack.
“Alright, alright, Ailin understands her mistake and has sincerely apologized to both of you. So, can you forgive her?”
Gaia, sitting nearby, thought Ailin’s apology was sufficient. Now it was up to Aierjisi and Yake to decide if they wanted to forgive her.
“Um… this time, I’ll let you off the hook. But if there’s a next time, it won’t be so simple. Got it?”
Aierjisi put on a fierce expression as she said this to Ailin.
“Yes, yes, I understand.”
“Since you understand, you can get up now.”
“Yay, Ailin, you got Aierjisi’s forgiveness! Hurry up and stand up!”
“I want to, but… my legs aren’t cooperating… ouch.”
Maybe it was because she had been kneeling for too long, but Ailin’s legs had gotten stiff and numb. She tried her best to stand up but failed, tumbling back to the ground.
“Legs not cooperating? Let me see.”
Weirafiya came over and poked Ailin’s calf with her finger. Ailin screamed at the poke.
“Stop poking! It hurts!”
Wincing in pain, Ailin pushed Weirafiya away and tried to use the chair to get up. But even that movement was as hard as climbing a mountain for her right now.
“Ailin, you really shouldn’t push yourself. Luckily, there’s a wheelchair here, so just sit in that for now.”
Gaia picked up Ailin and placed her in the wheelchair he had been sitting in before. He had brought it for Ailin, and it was a good thing it came in handy now.
“Gaia, if I sit in this wheelchair, what will you do?”
“I’m fine! My injuries are almost healed now. Whether I sit or not in this wheelchair doesn’t matter. And honestly, you need it more than I do right now. We’ll be leaving for now; there are still plenty of things we need to do, so you guys can keep playing here.”
Gaia pushed Ailin in the wheelchair away, leaving Aierjisi and the others behind.
“Shall we play Mahjong?”
Aierjisi looked at Weirafiya, asking if she wanted to join in.
“Come on, let’s play and have some fun! Your Mahjong may not be as comfortable as the one on Earth, but hey, I can’t be too picky!”
“Geez, you really have high demands. Do you even know how much effort I put into making this Mahjong? Yake, tell her how we made it.”
“Uh? Actually, it wasn’t that much trouble. I just went out to find some suitable wood, cut it into small pieces, and then carved the characters on them. And that’s how we made it. Ouch!”
Yake yelped as Aierjisi pinched his bottom hard while he spoke.
“Don’t let his casual tone fool you; making this Mahjong was a hassle, especially the carving at the end. It even made Yake faint on the spot, right, Yake?”
With the previous pinch still fresh in everyone’s mind, Aierjisi’s implication was pretty clear. Even goofball Yake knew he had to agree with her now.
“Y-Yeah, carving those tiny pieces was a total pain!”
“Okay, okay! I get it! Thank you both for going out of your way to make this Mahjong for me. Now, let me think of a way to repay you… Ah! How about this!”
Weirafiya spread her wings and pulled out two feathers as a gift for Aierjisi and Yake.
The maniacal Phoenix’s feathers were said to be incredibly rare treasures. A perfect gift for the two of them!
“Oh, is this a Phoenix feather? This is a precious treasure; we must keep it safe!”
Aierjisi carefully cradled the feather in her hands and placed it into Subspace. Once it’s in there, she’d never lose it. Yake followed suit, placing his feather into Subspace as well.
“With this, we’re even, right? Now come on, join me for some Mahjong! I’m so bored, I could turn back into my true form!”
“Okay, okay, we’re coming! Yake, sit down; I’ll teach you how to play Mahjong.”
“Oh… ”
Aierjisi and Yake took the empty seats and started playing Mahjong with Weirafiya. During the game, Aierjisi and Weirafiya were teaching their servants how to play. However, the rules of Mahjong were quite complex, and it took Yake and Yaser, the two dimwits, a while to grasp them.
Then… the four of them sat at the table playing Mahjong from morning until night.
“Whoa! You guys are still playing Mahjong? It’s already nighttime!”
When Ailin came to call Weirafiya and the others for dinner, she was shocked to see them still at it. These guys couldn’t have developed a gambling addiction, could they?
“Ah, is it already nighttime? Wow, it really is nighttime!”
It wasn’t until Ailin pointed it out that the four Mahjong addicts finally realized it was indeed evening.
“What have you guys been up to… Hurry and help me prepare for dinner.”
Ailin covered her face, unable to watch. What kind of events would have to transpire to connect these Mahjong-addicted individuals with their mission to save the world?
“Well, I am a bit hungry too. Why don’t we go eat first and then return to play afterward?”
“True, only a full stomach can keep us going. Let’s go for a feast!”
“Let’s go! I’m a bit starving too!”
“Lady, how about a cookie first?”
With that, Aierjisi and the others left the room, following Ailin to the dining hall to enjoy dinner.
